[Telepathy] [Bug 16170] TpIntSet should cope with larger integers
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16170 Simon McVittie simon.mcvit...@collabora.co.uk changed: What|Removed |Added URL||http://git.collabora.co.uk/ ||?p=user/smcv/telepathy-glib ||-smcv.git;a=shortlog;h=refs ||/heads/sparse-intset Status|NEW |ASSIGNED Keywords||patch Severity|normal |enhancement Priority|medium |high AssignedTo|telepa...@lists.freedesktop |simon.mcvit...@collabora.co |.org|.uk QAContact||telepa...@lists.freedesktop ||.org --- Comment #2 from Simon McVittie simon.mcvit...@collabora.co.uk 2010-04-09 04:02:23 PDT --- This is more important now that we're seriously thinking about Bug #23155. This single patch: http://git.collabora.co.uk/?p=user/smcv/telepathy-glib-smcv.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/sparse-intset changes TpIntSet to be implemented as a hash from guint to guint32 (the 5 lowest bits are represented by a bitfield in the value, and the rest go in the key). On 64-bit platforms we could in principle use a hash from guint to 64-bit int, and put the 6 lowest bits in the value; all the code is there, except that count_bits32() needs replacing with a version with 64-bit magic numbers (I didn't really want to waste time researching that right now). Iteration will be somewhat slower now due to keeping the (undocumented!) rule that iteration over an int set is ordered, so I also added a TpIntSetFastIter which has a more GHashTable-like API and iterates out-of-order. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the QA contact for the bug. Currently the spec says, of the return value of GetContactAttributes: Each contact's attributes will always include at least the identifier that would be obtained by inspecting the handle (org.freedesktop.Telepathy.Connection/contact-id). We probably want /owner (Handle), /owner-id, /owner-channels or so. This is kind of a prerequisite for adding handle owner support to contact helper code in bindings, short of requiring API users to pass the channel to the constructor as well as the handle. I don't think we need this to be on a separate interface for backwards compat. — if the method's not implemented on the connection, you just can't figure this out. (In reply to comment #1) Simon suggests that a handle might be specific to multiple channels but I forget his rationale and it seems quite bizarre to me. I guess one example is a contact in an XMPP MUC being used for both a text chat and a Muji call? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ telepathy mailing list telepathy@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/telepathy

Probably the original callee will get a missed call notification sjoerd hrm sjoerd i was hoping that kind of stuff could be controlled by a client sjoerd As in just tell the CM forward to A, if that fails you have a chance to say then forward to B etc sjoerd without needing the complexity of giving the CM a queue with timeouts mikhailz sjoerd: wrong, in Skype it's fire and forget sjoerd ah, so once you say forward, you're no longer part of the calling process sjoerd good to know ;) sjoerd mikhailz: i guess it makes sense to do it that way, do you know how forwarding works in SIP ? mikhailz sjoerd: You mean REFER? It's far messier affair, for sure sjoerd mikhailz: i guess i mean REFER, yes mikhailz Pekka the Great may know all the details, but AFAIK the referer gets an implicit event subscription (think wiring a whole new slab of sofia-sip functionality) to get notified about the forwarded call's progress sjoerd sounds like lots of fun mikhailz Thinking of turning Empathy into an executive phone? mikhailz empathy --secretary-kiosk-mode sjoerd Heh sjoerd Well while working on the new media spec we should try to take these things into account as well sjoerd it'd be cool if empathy could do that kind of stuff as well indeed mikhailz I guess... but forwarding most likely won't mix media between the different call attempts sjoerd mikhailz: how do you mean? mikhailz sjoerd: so if you've forwarded an incoming call, the streams might close or be put on hold and there's only some signalling to report on the forwarded call's progress, if any sjoerd ah right sjoerd yeah, the one-shot vs. the referrer being in the process models are quite different mikhailz sjoerd: if the CM supports bouncing the call back, the streams should get reestablished, probably with local pending send so the client could resume without losing privacy sjoerd mikhailz: yeah sjoerd you'd have to accept it again indeed sjoerd which is a nice challenge mikhailz sjoerd: A forwarded call's Group could remove the self handle for the duration of the forwarding, and add it back to local pending if the call gets back sjoerd mikhailz: the new media spec doesn't have the Group interface mikhailz the Call channel will not have a group at all? sjoerd 1-to-1 won't indeed mikhailz sjoerd: then it's perhaps about extending CallState sjoerd yeah sjoerd the tricky bit is which streams you move from pending to sending when the call comes back sjoerd anyway, that's pondering for another day :) sjoerd I now at least have a better idea of the situations that could arise mikhailz sjoerd: OK, but do regard that other case with a call script and no reporting sjoerd i will mikhailz sjoerd: actually, these are different even on Telepathy level. The call script would belong to a Connection, and the refer action is for a Call mikhailz so might as well be orthogonal sjoerd mikhailz: surely you'd get the incoming call and then give it a forwarding call script ? mikhailz sjoerd: not necessarily, the script can be sent to the server side to act while you are offline mikhailz I'm dimly aware of some cellular network services for that sjoerd mikhailz: right, that's different indeed sjoerd mikhailz: but i assume you can tell some server/service, if there is a call try calling these guys instead mikhailz again, grab pessi to get things I might know nothing about sjoerd but also when there is an incoming call you tell it, please try forwarding this call to X, Y, Z mikhailz sjoerd: yes, in some CMs you cannot manage it manually mikhailz sjoerd: you just tell the server or network please forward this call using the script I have set before sjoerd right --

http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17219 --- Comment #5 from Will Thompson will.thomp...@collabora.co.uk 2009-10-22 02:59:42 PST --- I'm a bit skeptical of adding a plethora of connection parameters for the priority of each resource. I think that, if anything, Gabble should use the 'priority' param when Available, and a value between 0 and 'priority' for other statuses, according to the same scale as other clients. (Priorities are pretty crap, because if you use two clients with different scales, you lose unless you go through manually tweaking them all, which no user should have to do.) Pidgin uses a priority of 1 for Available, and 0 for everything else. I can't see any way to change these from the UI, although it's technically possible to make a custom status with a different priority. A first step might be to change Gabble's default to 1, and do the same scaling (for very binary values of scale) as Pidgin does. Not tested against a real server yet... Comments in the branch describe how this is actually implemented in servers, in practice (I looked at the source code of recent versions of Openfire, Tigase, ejabberd and mu-conference; plus Prosody, which currently lets absolutely anyone set the subject). muc#roominfo_changesubject isn't actually implemented anywhere as far as I can tell. muc#roomconfig_changesubject is widely implemented, but it's ambiguous what it should mean. In the branch I assumed that the server is Openfire, Tigase or ejabberd, in which this setting is the difference between you must be a moderator and you must be a participant or moderator. In mu-conference this setting is actually the difference between you must be an admin and anyone can set it; due to us assuming the other interpretation, users will find that Gabble won't let them change the subject with role 'visitor', only with 'participant' or 'moderator', even though it would actually work. This is not a regression, at least, since Gabble previously had a bug in which it only ever allowed moderators to set the subject, despite a special case designed to avoid that restriction... I'm not sure whether this is a candidate for 0.8 or not, so to be safe, I developed the branch against 0.8. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the QA contact for the bug. http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16891 --- Comment #11 from Arie Skliarouk sklia...@gmail.com 2009-08-03 00:57:30 PST --- (In reply to comment #9 (of Eric Hopper)) I will discourage everybody I know from using Empathy and uninstall it on systems I administrate until this is fixed. This should have been thought of in the very beginning and been a feature in the program since its inception. As the Empathy developers are more knowledgeable with what users want, or at least have better tools to gather the information, I guess they have different list of priorities of tasks to work on. Bad security is unforgivable. This is the kind of program where security is good-to-have feature. The OTR can be added later, once the basis is stable. You treating this as a low priority bug tells me a whole lot about what kinds of things the Empathy development team thinks is important, and good security is apparently not an important consideration. Nobody is against good security. It is just a matter of percentage of users that are needed to be catered to first. As the developer's resources are scarce, they need to judge carefully where to direct theirs efforts. At this point empathy is barely suitable for everyday work (which is important for about 90% of users), whereas security is important for about 5% of users. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ telepathy mailing list telepathy@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/telepathy

If it's a high priority for *you*, you're welcome to implement it, or hire someone to implement it; but it's not a high priority for *us*, and so it stays priority=low in Bugzilla. I think helping the XMPP Standards people to provide end-to-end encryption (implementing http://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/xtls.html or something like it, and advancing it to Recommended status) is a much better use of developer time; it'll result in a better protocol, with a well-defined security model, that does not conflict with the protocol's normal extensibility mechanisms. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ telepathy mailing list telepathy@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/telepathy

(In reply to comment #0) The Location spec currently defines some extra keys climb (rate of change of altitude in metres per second), vertical-error-m (some indication of vertical error in metres), horizontal-error-m (some indication of horizontal error in metres). These are struct fields in Geoclue, but there's no reason they couldn't go in the list of well-known keys in XEP-0080; someone should contact psa about this. horizontal-error-m should now be renamed to accuracy as per XEP-0080 v1.6. vertical-error-m does not exist in the XEP, but we could now call it vertical-accuracy without too much fear of conflict. Perhaps we could get that key into the XEP? It's our binding for Geoclue's geoclue_accuracy_get_detailed @vertical_accuracy. Alternatively, we could just leave it out for the moment. climb does not exist in the XEP; similar situation. It's our binding for Geoclue's GEOCLUE_VELOCITY_FIELDS_CLIMB. Alternatively, we could just leave it out for the moment. We define an accuracy-level key in the same namespace: maybe we could ask psa to avoid that name in the XEP, or maybe we could even put it in the XEP as an enumerated thing, with values 'country'/'region'/'locality'/'postal-code'/'street'/'detailed'. This is related to Bug #19585. My wip-seal branch contains some unfinished work: adding a TP_SEAL macro, and starting to use it for structs. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the QA contact for the bug. ___ telepathy mailing list telepathy@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/telepathy

In a prefect world we'd batch all the candidates untill NativeCandidatesPrepared is called and then pick the highest preference rtp candidate to send out.
