Rob,

gnome-desktop is a library that is used by many gnome components. The
library links against gtk2. gnome-desktop3 is a version of gnome-desktop
that is linked against gtk3, for use in gnome3 and other gtk3-based
desktops.

The package alone does not help you to a different desktop. You can
however, install gnome-shell and get a glimpse of gnome3 in that way.
We plan for gnome3 to be ready by Fedora 15.

[F14 Branched] gnome-shell freeze

2010-08-06 Thread Martin Sourada
Hi,

trying to switch (via desktop effects) to gnome-shell results in loading
the shell and then the screen freezes, only cursor and ctrl-alt-fn
works. After while (what was the timeout, 30s?) it returns back to
metacity and works again... I'm able to use gnome-shell on F12. I wonder
where the issue might lie and where to fill the bug...

Anyone else seeing this?

Possibly related packages:
xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.12.0-4.fc14.i686
xorg-x11-server-common-1.8.99.905-2.20100716.fc14.i686
gnome-shell-2.31.5-5.fc14.i686

HW:
Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated
Graphics Controller (rev 03)

Cheers,
Martin

It's 32bit only. :) The package uses asm that is not available for
x86_64.

It's part of the Alpha release criteria [1] that no deps or conflicts
are present on physical media (DVD/CD). This seems to have slipped
through through first scrubbing of the list yesterday.

No file conflicts or unresolved package dependencies during a
media-based (CD/DVD) install

If nothing pulls this into an install transaction on DVD/CD, and it
isn't listed in comps.xml, should it be removed from the media?

Also, the package is only included in the i386 DVD, not the x86_64
DVD ... not sure why.

James

Indeed, content is missing from the initrd.img (including init and
loader).  See
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/attachment.cgi?id=437175&action=diff

Dennis Gilmore is investigating the pungi logs.

This smells like corrupted initrd image.

Check the sha sum of the cd/dvd to make sure it's not the culprit.

I've hit this bug also on gentoo-sources so is related to the kernel itself.

Greetings,

Early testing of RC#1 has added several issues to the list for review,
including the following:

621775 :: NEW :: anaconda :: anaconda-maint-l...@redhat.com :: kernel
panic- not syncing: VFS : unable to mount root fs on
unknown-block(9,2) :: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=621775

621102 :: NEW :: udev :: har...@redhat.com :: The installer doesn't use
packages repository in DVD as default ::
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=621102

620211 :: NEW :: python-psyco :: kon...@tylerc.org :: python-psyco needs
porting to python 2.7 in F14 and devel ::
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=620211

I'm not able to join the blocker review meeting today. I've walked
through the list of bugs and updated states to match the test status and
bodhi status. It seems bugs are not being moved to ON_QA when a bodhi
update is available (even though the bug# is listed in the bodhi
update).

Thanks,
James

anaconda hasn't even started running at this point, so it's a little
disingenuous to call it "a kernel panic in the first stage of
anaconda".
