Re: Trying to update F14/RC1 to F14/RC2 by the F14/RC2 DVD

 answered the question
for the partition to update (is the F14/RC1). Then I'm asked select
data storage device and install target device (why this, if I want to
update only ???), then pressing the next button, but nothing happens.
If I switch to some console window and switching back to the X11 window,
it becomes blanked, and all hangs.

 Anybody made similar experiences?

I tried to reproduce your problem by virt-installing F14/RC1 i386 first
and upgrading it using F14-alpha-rc2 DVD, but it worked as expected
without this issue happening. Did you see the bootloader configuration
screen after selecting update an existing system and clicking next? If
yes, which bootloader configuration method did you choose?

And please file a bug and updating the test matr...@] after you verify
it.

Hey Mark,

Thanks for sharing your results. Quite an odd failure. How much memory
are you allocating to your virt guest? Can you change tty's
(ctrlaltF#) keys and show details from tty3, tty4 and tty5?

Thanks,

These will get sorted out soon. With the alpha freeze, it has been
difficult to get the necessary rebuilds done.

Proventester feedback requested - xorg-x11-drv-vmware

2010-08-10 Thread James Laska
Greetings folks,

François and fenris02 directed me to a Fedora 14 xorg-x11-drv-vmware bug
[1] causing display problems for VMWare guests. Testing against a
rawhide (dist-f15) package was positive. Adam Jackson built an updated
package for dist-f14 and created a bodhi update request.

While this update doesn't impact the Alpha release criteria [2], should
enough positive karma be supplied, it may be possible to include this
update in the pending F-14-Alpha respin. Or at the very least, the
update would be available on mirrors post-install.

For any folks testing Fedora 14 as a VMware guest, bodhi karma is
appreciated. To contribute, check out
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/xorg-x11-drv-vmware-11.0.1-1.fc14

Thanks,
James

FYI the package is assigned to Orphan Owner which indicates it's dead
hence it should be removed from the distro.

These will get sorted out soon. With the alpha freeze, it has been
difficult to get the necessary rebuilds done.

Having half of the desktop apps not start *at all* otherwise could
perhaps warrant an exception? Or you could perhaps chain-build it (if
there's too many deps that need update first) and submit for
updates-testing in the meantime.

Rawhide per say will not be installable,
it was a decision taken at the time of F13?.
With the concept of no frozen rawhide.

You will need to install FN and upgrade to Rawhide using
fedora-release-rawhide.

 gwibber-2.31.4-1.fc12 (FEDORA-2010-12397)
An open source microblogging client for GNOME developed with Python and GTK

Update Information:

Update to 2.31.4 Fix Google Buzz Fix Mousewheel scrolling Fix client app so
when minimize_to_tray preference is set, it will quit when minimized and the
user selects quit from the tray menu. This is a new branch of gwibber code,
you should be aware of the following:1) This branch no longer uses
desktopcouch (it uses SQLite instead). This resolves the vast majority of
crashes and performance issues.2) The SQLite database format has changed. If
you have been running a SQLite aware gwibber, you will need to delete the user-
local copy of the gwibber SQLite db file and start over to use this package, or
things will break (you'll notice that no new updates occur). Deleting the
gwibber SQLite db file will also delete any configured gwibber
accounts/preferences, so you'll need to readd them. To do this, run: rm
~/.cache/gwibber/gwibber.sqlite3) Facebook support in gwibber is pretty
rough at the moment. Here's why:* Facebook switched to a per-application
throttling policy, so that means that no application can do too many calls to
the Facebook API, and once that limit is reached, the Facebook API will just
refuse to respond. * When I say per-application, I mean all instances of
gwibber running everywhere, not the instance of gwibber you're running on your
Fedora machine right now. * Old versions of gwibber, written before this
change took effect are still in wide use. This version is self-regulating, but
older versions just slam the Facebook API repeatedly, like a toddler with a
spoon. * Conclusion: Facebook is really hit or miss at the moment. Upstream
knows about it. Be patient.4) Gwibber no longer jumps around as new messages
come in. Major upgrade to version 2.0 of Gwibber, including many bug fixes and
improvements to the interface. Update gwibber to 2.29.92.1.While I would not
normally perform a major update to gwibber for released distributions, this

Thanks, Andre! Everyone please note we have the go/no-go meeting for
Alpha release tomorrow afternoon at 5pm Eastern time, so we really
*really* need as much testing as possible by then. Any help you all can
give to fill out the install and desktop matrices would be greatly
appreciated, focusing on the Alpha tests. The live images are not
available yet, but coming soon. There will be live images for all four
main desktops.
