Can't see groups?
For some reason my F16 system is not recognizing the groups that I'm in: jik2:~!1016$ whoami jik jik2:~!1017$ groups jik jik2:~!1018$ groups jik jik : jik jik2:~!1019$ grep -w jik /etc/group jackuser:x:488:jik jik:x:3009: build:x:3010:jik boinc:x:462:jik vboxusers:x:3038:jik wireshark:x:453:jik jik2:~!1020$ This is not just the "groups" command malfunctioning; I am indeed unable to do things which I should be able to do as a member of the "vboxusers" group: jik2:~!1020$ mkdir /tmp/test jik2:~!1021$ sudo chown root.vboxusers /tmp/test [sudo] password for jik: jik2:~!1022$ sudo chmod 770 /tmp/test jik2:~!1023$ touch /tmp/test/write-test touch: cannot touch `/tmp/test/write-test': Permission denied jik2:~!1024$ I have selinux disabled. Any suggestions for what's going on here and how to fix it would be very much appreciated. It is causing problems for me. I tested this with F16 systems (I haven't quite gotten to rebooting my rawhode machine yet) and things still work. I tested doing a kernel upgrade afterwards and it also worked, though there were messages from grubby. The key grub info is in the mbr and /boot and none of those places are touched when grub is removed. grubby will try to update both grub and grub2 configs for kernel updates. So things should be fine at least until you try to change over to using grub2 to boot. Grub -> grub2?
So today yum wants to put grub2 onto my rawhide system, nudging grub out of the way in the process. This makes me nervous. Last time I read about this, it wasn't a straightforward update from one to the other. If that has changed, could somebody please give me a warm fuzzy feeling that allowing that update would be a rational thing to do? F16 upgrades specifically emails
OK, think have problem. Upgraded server box (emails, file storage type stuff) to F16 via yum. Everything seems to be ok, so far. Now, I use email via evolution and imap to my lil server. It was working ok to receive/send via when it was on F15 earlier this morning before upgrading. Now I can send an email (as you are reading this, which would be good), but no emails are showing up to my username or now transferring or something. I normally see them go to my inbox but I also have filters and they go to their respective folders. But I don't see the emails going to any of my folders. Now, what could somehow be related, is I changed my username ID's from 500-1000 few days ago and it all seemed to work before the upgrade today. Sendmail and dovecot both seem to be running and start with no errors. All of a sudden a permission or something is wrong? Or a service I can't think of also needs to be running now? -- Mike Chambers Madisonville, KY "The best town on Earth!" -- test mailing list test@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/test

[Test-Announce] Fedora 16 Final Test Compose 1 (TC1) Available Now!
Frederic Muller cm17.com> writes: > Thanks a lot. I was actually wondering. Seems the link has been updated > or I just clicked wrongly. Downloading now. It can take around an hour after the new install ISOs are available to generate the disos. I post the announcement as soon as the releng ticket ( https://fedorahosted.org/rel-eng/ticket/4951 in this case) indicates that the ISOs are available, so the disos may not be available yet. In this case there was indeed over an hour's delay. My diso script runs both makedeltaiso and then applydeltaiso to make sure the disos rebuild properly, so that accounts for up to a factor of 2 in the time. I think it's worth it, since for 15 Alpha TC2 there was a bug preventing the disos from working, and I caught it through checking (the bug was fixed quickly by M. A. Young and working disos were posted a few days later). The directory listing in http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/stage/deltaisos/ is mostly alphabetical except that unfortunately TC comes after RC. We also maintain (well, more or less maintain) https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers with all information we have for budding bug zappers (particularly https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/Joining is meant to be a good start page).
