Noted, I've nominated it as a blocker (it looks like one) and asked the
anaconda team if they can come up with a fix quickly. Thanks!

I think a new anaconda is needed before there's another TC. anaconda 19.23-1 is
totally unusable for me in Manual Partitioning, whether I'm using LVM, BTRFS,

Thanks. I just came across this bug reported by a different path and
nominated it as a beta blocker - bug reporting from anaconda is an Alpha
requirement, so any time a bug like this crops up, it's great if you can
nominate it as a blocker :)

As it's now nominated as a blocker, we'll pull the fix into TC3 and we
can test it, even if it doesn't go stable before then.

libreport filing duplicate bugs

2013-05-02 Thread Chris Murphy
I'm finding that libreport is filing duplicate bugs with beta TC1. It says it's
found a duplicate bug, but lists the new bug ID it's already filed, while also
asking (too late) if I want to file a new bug anyway.

Probably when there is one, some hand holding will be needed to
update yum or whatever broke it.

Bill fixed this and the new yum will be in tonight's rawhide compose.
You can use 'yum update yum' to update to the new yum and things will
be all good again.

I tested the patch and it worked for me. It would be nice if someone
would do a build today so it gets into tomorrow's rawhide.

would do a build today so it gets into tomorrow's rawhide.

The best keyboard website is geekhack.org. You'll many keyboard
suggestions there, as well as more than you ever wanted to know about

Rawhide heads up - Expect yum problems

2013-05-02 Thread piruthiviraj natarajan
I am using dnf as an alternative.

yum update results in garbage output complaining errors with yum.noarch
0:3.4.3-88.fc20 and it ultimately doesn't update anything.

Is a fix coming?

Based on the pictures that DJ posted later, it looks like his keyboard
is the same IBM model M that I have, and I sure as heck didn't "care-
fully source" a Super key-less keyboard. As far as I know, the
Windows/
Super key hadn't been invented when my keyboard was manufactured
back in

1996. (If it had been invented, it certainly wasn't ubiquitous.)

Okay, okay, if you're still using one, you get a pass. But come on,
understand that about 99% of existing PC keyboards have a
Super/System/Windows/Whatever key, and it seems kind of a waste of
effort to hack up the video just to acknowledge those of us who still
have prehistoric keyboards. I mean, can we agree it's a bit nitpicky?

I too use a heavy, ancient IBM keyboard, but only for lack of adequate
quantity of better. My (3) primaries also were acquired last century.
I'd love to have extra keys if I could find any affordable models made
for touch typing, with:

CAPSLOCK in typewriter location beside spacebar (via option or otherwise)
traditional inverted T cursor pad,
large "L" enter/return key,
oversized backspace key, AND
all function keys usable by touch in conjunction with any or all
"shift" keys using a single, non-giant hand

like these:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Omnikey102p3248.jpg

I have fond memories of the Omnikey keyboards.

I am currently using an SIIG keyboard with mechanical key switches.
The SIIG was flakey until I reseated the cable connector inside the
keyboard.

The SIIG is sensitive to RF fields. But it does have a good feel.

I believe the plan is to release f19 with a 3.9 kernel. Then it would get
a 3.10 kernel at some point in updates.

Right now the kernels aren't very tied to the releases, so running f20
(including the rawhide nodebug kernels) on otherwise f19 systems works
fine.

You really should use a special Test Day images, they are many benefits.
 But it's too late now.
I think we worked on https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-qa/ticket/345
(Translation test day) and we used Image created by you (20 days before),
but not about i18n test iso.

Comment (by jhrozek):

We're reviewing one last patchset on the SSSD devel list, then we'll
release the beta upstream and put the build into Fedora.

It's likely we'll end up refreshing the build before the test day to
 include additional fixes, though.

Hi tagoh! I've moved the pages to the new name - sorry to be late. If
you're worried about the schedule we can move to 9th, or go ahead
 tomorrow.

 We built Beta TC2 today:

 https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/stage/19-Beta-TC2/Live/

it seems pretty workable. I'll test it a bit more and if it seems okay,
I'll link it as the live image for the Test Day.

So a couple of things: there's the test cases and the criteria. The test
cases enforce the criteria, the criteria back the test cases.

So there's no such thing as 'optional criteria' - the criteria are
always mandatory =) We do have 'optional test cases', though: these are
test cases that don't enforce any particular criterion and hence don't
have to pass, but that it seems like a good idea to test. Those are the
things listed as 'Optional' at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Fedora_19_Install_Results_Template .

I don't think there'd be any objections at all to adding an optional
test case for multipath, certainly. So that would be the first thing to
do, and if you want to go ahead and contribute one, that would be
awesome. Really, all you need to do is go ahead and write the test case,
edit it into
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Fedora_19_Install_Results_Template in
the appropriate spot (probably with the other 'optional' tests, at the
bottom), and let the list know you've done it - we can review it.

Adding a release criterion is a more significant action and that
requires discussion / consensus for sure. I'm not sure if we want to
block a Fedora release on multipath functionality, but I don't really
have a lot of data for that, it's just a feeling. Does anyone have good
arguments for/against covering multipath in the criteria? Johann has a
good point about hardware availability; it should usually be the case
that the QA folks who work for Red Hat should be able to get access to
multipath hardware for testing one way or another, but that may not be
enough for us to feel comfortable.

If we did decide to cover multipath functionality in the criteria, all
we'd have to do to the test case is change it from 'Optional' to 'Final'
in the template at that point. No problem at all. So definitely the
first step is just to write the test case and add that in.

NOTE: All DVD and Live images except KDE Live and SoaS Live are still
oversize (as they have been since 19 Alpha TC3).

As per the Fedora 19 schedule [1], Fedora 19 Beta Test Compose 1 (TC1)
is now available for testing. Content information, including changes,
can be found at https://fedorahosted.org/rel-eng/ticket/5602 . Please
see the following pages for download links (including delta ISOs) and
testing instructions. Normally dl.fedoraproject.org should provide the
fastest download, but download-ib01.fedoraproject.org is available as a
mirror (with an approximately 1 hour lag) in case of trouble. To use it,
just replace "dl" with "download-ib01" in the download URL.

Well, 'expected' and 'required' are somewhat different :) We're still
shaking out the fedup process, I think, but of course it'd be ideal if
it was testable/working as much of the time as possible.

Several people have reported that it works with the latest fedup from
f18 updates-testing (though I've seen one report that the latest fedup
in f*17* updates-testing breaks upgrading to f18, so it seems we lost on
the swings what we gained on the roundabouts...)

I've seen a few other reports that it fails on VMware, it seems like it
may be the case that Alpha just doesn't fly on VMware. We do most of our
virt testing on KVM, and then probably VirtualBox gets more testing than
VMware.

Can you check Beta TC2 (released earlier today, check the archives on
this list for details)? If that doesn't fly, we'll probably want to
check into this. We don't formally require Fedora releases to work on
VMware, but it'd suck if Beta didn't. Thanks!

Hi Michael!

If you can tell that the bug is to do with the Fedora package and not
the upstream source, then definitely file it downstream.

If you're pretty sure the bug is present in the upstream source, you can
file it downstream or upstream. Johann strongly believes that we
'should' be able to file it downstream and the maintainers should handle
it from there, but from a practical perspective, I find that filing
upstream usually works best, if you don't mind the inconvenience.

may fix this. I'll try and get it pulled into TC3 when we roll that. If anyone

Request for focused testing on containers (LVM, btrfs) in F19 Beta TCs

2013-05-02 Thread Adam Williamson
Hi, folks. I wanted to pass along a special request from the anaconda
team for those of you who are helping to test the Beta TCs (for which,
thanks!)

There are some substantial changes to the handling of containers in
custom partitioning that landed just prior to the TCs starting up.
Containers are LVM volume groups and btrfs volumes, basically. We don't
really need to go into much detail on the changes, but here's what would
really help:

Please, just exercise the code, and file bugs if you hit crashes or
failures. UI feedback is nice but we're mostly after bugs, here. Of
course, the usual advice not to install on production systems goes
double here, but if you have test systems or VMs, use 'em! We need to
try stuff like containers that span multiple disks, resizing containers,
changing various properties of them, trying to set up LVM-on-RAID (which
now ought to be possible, I believe). It'd be ideal if people can focus
on 'plausible' cases - it is useful to get bugs like 'if I go back and
forward 20 times then try to create a 500 petabyte container on my 40GB
SSD, it crashes', but the best bugs are ones that people are reasonably
likely to hit when trying to do something practical.

It would be helpful if you could put 'newui-container' in the 'Devel
Whiteboard' field in Bugzilla when filing your bugs - that way the devs
can identify them as related to this testing effort. If you have the
relevant powers, you can also assign them to dlehman AT redhat,
otherwise we'll go through and do them periodically.

Thanks a lot, folks!

Rawhide heads up - Expect yum problems

2013-05-02 Thread Bruno Wolff III
It looks like there is an issue with yum-3.4.3-88.fc20 not working properly,
blocking updates. I have filed a but report
(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=958531) for this, but it hasn't
been confirmed yet.

Probably when there is one, some hand holding will be needed to update

Linux 3.10 in Rawhide

2013-05-02 Thread Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX N2469R

After the disappointing results with Beta TC1 I decided to play with
64 bit rawhide with the 3.10 kernel.

As usual I used F18 pxeboot to install rawhide. Gnome had dependency
problems so I installed Xfce. I discovered that pxeboot install was flakely
running through a wrt54 hub. That cleared up when I switched to a
direct line to the 16 port gigabit hub in the basement.

Rawhide has now been running for 7 hours on the 2 GB Celeron 430
that was crashing with recent Fedora 19 installs. The Celeron is
controlling an HP 3586B selective voltmeter under GPIB control.

The 3.10 kernel seems to running fine on the Intel 3770 as well.

The previously reported machine dependencies with Wine remain.

I tried the 32 bit rawhide on the E6550. NFS was still broken so no
testing.

Other than the stability of 3.10, the only other difference I noted was in a
gnuradio-companion script. hw:0,0 in audio source had to be changed to
plughw:0,0 to run.

Will 3.10 be in Fedora 19?

Unfortunately we can't do much about that case (except make
livecd-iso-to-disk reverse the customizations in the kickstart when
writing a persistent storage device, which sounds...eww), and it's the

Seems reasonable to test all those, but I gotta admit I haven't seen
much use of LXC in the wild, it doesn't seem like something people are
clamoring for. Any others on the list particularly keen on LXC? Am I
missing the latest hot thing? :)

Yeah, we know. It kinda sucks, but we decided "some UEFI Macs" (it
doesn't affect all of them indeed, though quite a lot) wasn't enough
hardware to justify another week's Alpha slip.

The bug was known and discussed as a blocker ahead of release, we didn't
get blindsided.

Betreff: [Test-Announce] Fedora 19 Beta Test Compose 1 (TC1) Available Now!

Installation:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Current_Installation_Test

Base:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Current_Base_Test

Desktop:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Current_Desktop_Test

Ideally, all Alpha and Beta priority test cases for Installation [2],
Base [3], and Desktop [4] should pass in order to meet the Beta Release
Criteria [5]. Help is available on #fedora-qa on irc.freenode.net [6],
or on the test list [7].

bugs. Click on "Fedora 19 Beta" at the top of the page to see the Beta bugs.
