gnome-shell cpu usage during installation

2013-06-17 Thread Chris Murphy
While anaconda is running an installation, gnome-shell is hogging a whole core
on its own, and X is using about 25% of the other core. Is this expected? This
is on baremetal, with a nouveau supported GPU: NVIDIA Corporation G84M [GeForce
8600M GT] [10de:0407]. I wouldn't expect gnome-shell to need to fall back to a
rendering method that'd be this CPU intensive.

No problem, just wanted to make sure it wasn't broken due to me having
done something bad. it's now working, thanks!

Fortran 66, Legacy?? - the last FORTRAN that I used was FORTRAN IV! :-)

The BZ title is not accurate. It is a bug that is known to completely
break offline update installation in all cases.

I don't think this bug is my problem. I have network access at all times.

Starting with Fedora-Live-Desktop-x86_64-19-TC3-1.iso, if I log in and just
walk away for a while I get an option "Install Updates & Restart" from the
user, which doesn't work as described above and in the bug, except I have
network access. I also get this:

[root@f19s ~]# journalctl -u packagekit-offline-update.service -a

When I update to PackageKit-0.8.9-4.fc19, upon reboot the option "Install
Updates & Restart" from the user menu is no longer present.

If I yum update, I get a long list of updates needed.

So, is this supposed to work now or no?

I think the location / name of the theme may have been changed in the
switch, so you'd have to adjust that in your config (probably
in /etc/default/grub )

Have them both obsoletes grub2 < version-where-you-made-the-switch.

For new installs, we're not using the theme at all - right now anaconda
isn't setting GRUB_THEME at all, ever.

For old installs, you'll want to install starfield. I'm not really
sure what to do about this to make old installs work - we don't want to
Require the subpackage, because we don't want it installed on fresh
installs (and especially on live images where space is critical),
but obviously we've got no other way to pull it in on old installations.

As to why Joachim isn't seeing the subpackage in the repo - it's
"grub2-starfield-theme", I was just sloppy in the update description.
I've fixed that now.

Welcome Justin,
I smiled when I saw the reference to legacy Fortran 90, since I am more
used to the legacy when referring to Fortran 66 or even 77. :-)

I any case I (we in this) hope that you enjoy the Fedora experience and
we welcome your collaboration.

Re: Validation tests not yet run against Final

2013-06-17 Thread Josef Skladanka
Just a note:

we also have a script which can go through wiki matrices to make statistics, so
it might be useful (at least) as a source of inspiration.

https://git.fedorahosted.org/cgit/fedora-qa.git/tree/stats/testcase_stats

Run:

$ python testcase_stats.py 19 "Final TC3 Install"

to get stats for the respective matrix. It will create "nice" html page like
http://jskladan.fedorapeople.org/tc_report/

Meaning of the columns:

Untested X/Y
 - Y represents the sum of all 'fields' where the respective testcase can be
filled, X represents the number of filled fields
 - e.g. 001/002 for QA:Testcase_Partitioning_No_Swap represents the fact that
the testcase is filled just for one arch of the two (i386, x86_64), and 003/003
QA:Testcase_USB_stick_DVD_litd says, that the testcase was run for all i386,
x86_64 and UEFI.

Pass/Fail/Warn
 - number of results for the respective type of result

dPass
 = Pass - (Fail + Warn)
 - can be interpreted as a 'failure rate' for the specific testcase.

Hi Ed,

thanks. I could install it, but this did not bring back the graphical

Still having the b/w grub2 boot prompt.

Getting rid of this probs by downgrading grub2 and grub2-tools.

If you want the theme, install grub2-starfield .

Graphical themed grub

is no longer the OOTB default; we went back to console mode as the

Though Peter, IIRC, UEFI installs still use graphical mode by default?
Do we want to put the theme in the default UEFI package set? Or am I off

[Test-Announce] 2013-06-17 @ 16:00 UTC - F19 Final Blocker Bug Review #6

2013-06-17 Thread Adam Williamson
# F19 Final Blocker Review meeting #6
# Date: 2013-06-17
# Time: 16:00 UTC (12:00 EDT, 09:00 PDT)
# Location: #fedora-blocker-review on irc.freenode.net

We're cancelling the QA meeting for 2013-06-17, but we should still get
together and do some blocker review at 16:00 - we have all the blockers
and FEs proposed since Wednesday to go through! We can also take a look
at F19 business in general, including the problems with composing TC4.

We'll be running through the final blockers and freeze exception bugs.
The current list is available at:
http://qa.fedoraproject.org/blockerbugs/current

We'll be reviewing the bugs to determine ...

1. Whether they meet the final release criteria [1] and should stay
  on the list
2. Whether they are getting the attention they need

[1] http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_19_Final_Release_Criteria

For guidance on Blocker and FreezeException bugs, please refer to
  - https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:SOP_blocker_bug_process

[Test-Announce] CANCELLED: 2013-06-17 Fedora QA Meeting (blocker meeting still on)

2013-06-17 Thread Adam Williamson
Last week was pretty much taken up with F19 stuff and I don't see
anything urgent that needs discussing aside from F19 business, so it
seems sensible to just go straight to F19 blocker review again today. We
will aim to do a blocker review meeting at 16:00 - I'll send out a
separate announcement for that.

Mine was B&W only prior to the update.

I could improve the behaviour a little bit by exchanging system by
starfield and vice versa (brings back *nearly* the old behaviour, but
only nearly).
