Well, there's always a slight element of subjectivity in filling out the
matrix. If you have an extremely unusual bug that happens to affect your
test configuration but would likely not affect anyone else's, you
probably won't mark the box as 'fail' (perhaps 'warn'). I'd say that
applies in this case: if the failure was one likely to affect other UEFI
configs I'd mark it as 'fail', if it was exclusive to the config being
tested, I'd say 'warn', it it works, 'pass'. If it's something that
likely only affects EFI Macs, that's an...interesting question, but we
do seem to mostly be on the 'block for Macs' side of the question at
present, so probably 'fail'.

Ultimately we can have multiple results for a matrix entry and the
entries are only guidance for human evaluation anyway, so it's not too
terribly important: the most important thing is that all potential
blocker bugs are nominated as blockers.

Well that would sorta implicate your firmware that drives are missing in action
in UEFI mode, and are visible in CSM-BIOS mode.

Is the firmware at the most current version? What does "cannot access hard
drives" mean exactly? Can you put /tmp/storage.log somewhere?

Netinst UEFI boot cannot access hard drives.

I don't know what that means. I just did an EFI netinstl and it saw and
installed to my hard drive just fine. You need to provide more information.

Chris Murphy

One machine does not have UEFI. The newer one has optional UEFI.
TC2 netinstall worked normally when booted without UEFI.

OK good. Followup question: Is Mac EFI a suitable substitute for UEFI? In a
sense Mac EFI is more limited, so any failure there doesn't necessarily mean
broader failure with UEFI. Mac EFI is sortofa canary in a mine. If it works,
then UEFI should work.

No, not really.

Well.

The intent is that the EFI column is greyed out where it is extremely
unlikely EFI would ever behave differently, and white where it is
possible that it may. I more or less pulled the list out of my ass,
though. If you disagree with any of the calls I made in doing it, do
suggest a modification, but in terms of the *general approach*, it is
that the 'x86_64' column represents x86_64 BIOS, and UEFI represents
x86_64 UEFI.

# Time: 16:00 UTC (12:00 EDT, 09:00 PDT)
# Location: #fedora-blocker-review on irc.freenode.net

Everyone's favorite weekly activity is almost upon us once again. We'll
be holding another blocker review meeting tomorrow and while the list
of bugs to review isn't huge, it still promises to be "lots o' fun"!

We'll be running through the final blockers and freeze exception bugs.
The current list is available at:

We'll be reviewing the bugs to determine ...

1. Whether they meet the beta release criteria [1] and should stay
  on the list
2. Whether they are getting the attention they need

test matrix question, EFI vs x86_64

If a test works for EFI, it seems like it also qualifies for x86_64. Maybe the
exception to this is for booting, where the x86_64 column indicates

First impression with f20-alpha-tc2

2013-10-08 Thread Joachim Backes
Dear testers,

I still have the same problems with beta-tc2 as with beta-tc1:

I installed f20-beta-tc2 (netinst.iso, with gnome as desktop) in
VirtualBox! The installation is well performed, but no boot into gdm
login (hangs in black screen).

Workaround: Boot into runlevel 3, then say "init 5". The gdm login
appears, and I can login!.

Problem: I can't logout from the gnome3 session. Missing menu entry.
gnome-session-quit helps.

Additional problem: Choosing german keyboard as default during
installation, but a tty login does not recognize my password after first
booting (z/y problem for example). "loadkeys de" helps.

The gdm login runs properly (no passwd problems, no y/z problem).

Kind regards

Joachim Backes

respective size targets.

As per the Fedora 20 schedule [1], Fedora 20 Beta Test Compose 2 (TC2)
is now available for testing. Content information, including changes,
can be found at https://fedorahosted.org/rel-eng/ticket/5787#comment:3 .
Please see the following pages for download links (including delta ISOs)
and testing instructions. Normally dl.fedoraproject.org should provide
the fastest download, but download-ib01.fedoraproject.org is available
as a mirror (with an approximately 1 hour lag) in case of trouble. To
use it, just replace "dl" with "download-ib01" in the download URL.

Stabilize anaconda development earlier in the cycle.

As I suggested on the meeting I have started that discussion with the
Anaconda developers and the thread for that can be found here [¹]

Now what we need to do to be able to implement this from our end is to
for example move the installer criteria bit out of the general criteria
into a targeted installer release criteria since in essence it would be
on a release cycle different then from those of the product(s).

Another thing is to formulate a test strategy to cover the installer
like for example coming up with an specific installer testing team that
tests as well as triage the installer to giving the developers enough
time to focus on valid reports and fixing those issues..

Thoughts and comments?
