Re: rpm scriptlet testing

2013-10-13 Thread Adam Williamson
On Sat, 2013-10-12 at 04:52 +, Andre Robatino wrote:
Rpm scriptlet testing is not expected to be automated in the near future
(though eventually it really ought to be). I can test the PRE and POST
scriptlets by a yum reinstall. PREUN and POSTUN are both harder to test, and
more insidious since bugs appear even when updating to a fixed version. The
F19 release version of usbmuxd has a PREUN bug, so we will soon have a long
thread in the users list with stable users dealing with it. I don't know how
to test PREUN and POSTUN short of either having an available lower version
to downgrade to (maybe impossible in rawhide) or removing and reinstalling
the rpm with --force (maybe a bad idea if the running system depends on it).
What is the best way to test all four scriptlets manually, since we won't
 have automation for it soon?

That's a really good point and an interesting question - thanks for
bringing it up. Indeed this kind of bug tends to get dealt with only
when we realize things are on fire...

Thinking about it, there usually ought to be older versions of almost
all packages available in Koji at least - it does do garbage collection,
but it keeps stuff around for a while. It may be best to try and test
this using VMs, to control the environment as much as possible. I guess
we could actually take advantage of older pre-releases and TCs/RCs for
this, but as you say, especially with Rawhide, it might be difficult /
impossible to test updates from certain intermediate packages after a
given time...

Re: Testcases for no-DHCP and IPv6

 Hi,

In testing Fedora from my experience, the idea emerges, that most
development and testing is done in a network environment with an IPv4
 DHCP server running.

Testing in a network environment without DHCP and/or IPv6 only makes
bugs come up, that are not found so easily when testing in the current
 testmatrix.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to setup testcases that address DHCP-less
network environment and IPv6-only network environment.

We have done IPv6 testing for the last few releases; a couple of
community members were very helpful in checking that F18 and F19 worked
out of the box in a typical IPv6 environment, and we took showstopper
bugs in IPv6 as release blockers. We've had a couple of IPv6 test days
too. It would certainly be good to continue this effort, perhaps with a
test day for F20 or F21.

What I was suggesting is that he should check remote-fs.target is

Possibly I described my problem with the LXDE Live CD unclearly or not
correctly.I didn't install F20, I only run F20 via Live CD, just for

is permanently set to UTC (as Adam said). In this case, in my opinion
independent from Anaconda or Windows philosophy, the system time
should not be changed (only by a try out of F20). I think on users,
who want only to try out Fedora 20, to decide is it fine or not. Bug
 1018162.

Oh, I see. That does seem strange; I'm not aware of anything that's
supposed to change the system clock just during a live boot and test,
indeed. It could possibly be a systemd issue.

Hrm, I checked the mount part as T.C. suggested (of course the nfs share
is already mounted, manually mind you) and that looked fine.

Then I decided to check this...

[root@scrappy ~]# systemctl status remote-fs.target

   Active: inactive (dead)
 Docs: man:systemd.special(7)

Oct 12 10:08:27 scrappy.mtchambers.com systemd[1]: Dependency failed for

scrappy=nfs client/workstation that I am on now and try to do the
mounting from.

Re: Fedora 20 nfs

2013-10-13 Thread T.C. Hollingsworth
On Sun, Oct 13, 2013 at 8:02 AM, Mike Chambers m...@mtchambers.com wrote:
Got this from the logs just after a reboot a few mins ago...

Oct 13 09:58:45 scrappy systemd: Starting NFS file locking service
Oct 13 09:58:45 scrappy mount: mount.nfs4: mount system call failed
Oct 13 09:58:45 scrappy systemd: home-download.mount mount process
 exited, code=exited status=32

`man 8 mount` sez an exit code of 32 means mount failed. Very helpful. :-(

Oct 13 09:58:45 scrappy systemd: Failed to mount /home/download.
Oct 13 09:58:45 scrappy systemd: Dependency failed for Remote File
 Systems.
Oct 13 09:58:48 scrappy rsyslogd: log message from journal doesn't have
 MESSAGE
Oct 13 09:58:45 scrappy systemd: Unit home-download.mount entered failed
 state.

One thing I forgot that's always an issue...do you use NetworkManager
or ye olde network service? If it's the former, try running
`systemctl enable NetworkManager-wait-online` and rebooting.
Sometimes systemd tries to mount stuff before NM gets the network up.
(I thought they had fixed this to just do the right thing when remote
FSes were in the mix nowadays, but maybe I'm mistaken. Or it broke
again with F20??)

Also, double-check your network connection settings and make sure the
system connection box is checked. I'm pretty sure this is the
default (or maybe even not configurable) with GNOME, but other
desktops' NM UIs sometimes don't set this, so the network doesn't come
up on boot by default.

If all that fails, is the above just the output from `systemctl
status`? `journalctl -b` might reveal some messages from the kernel
that systemctl's magic log grepper might not be picking up.
