You seem to be trolling. I cannot see the humour in your post nor the
intentions behind your wink. Have you even read the full email before
snipping it?

Though, what I *can* see is: Adam took the time to write a thoroughly
detailed email with clean intentions.

Let me quickly outline here what I've learnt from Adam's email:

  1. A reminder to test updates-testing on stable Fedora releases
  2. How to test Fedora Rawhide
  3. Writing package specific test cases; /how/ you can write them,
and how they'd be useful in Bodhi 2.0 (when it is available).
  4. Improving release criteria & validation test cases
  - Pain points identified during F20 validation
  - How/where to find the blocker bugs identified
  5. A friendly suggestion to new users to submit their tests
 even in plain text;
  6. A useful note on /how/ to submit a proposal in a way that's
 future search friendly.

All of them - very well summarized and always useful reminders for those
who are new to the list.

What part of it is hard to understand to you or to acknowledge? You
respond with some kind of rhetorical snub (even /that/ is not coherent).

I'm not trying to defend anyone here, just an objective view.

Thanks.

Re: Suggested activities during the pre-F21 lull

2014-01-21 Thread Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX

I installed Rawhide from a local mirror of the rawhide tree.
The rawhide pxeboot files didn't work so I used the Heisenbug
versions for installation.

I installed the Development and Creative workstation, then Xfce
and a bunch of libs on top of that. Surprisingly it mostly worked
the same as Heisenbug.

Except for Noveau (surprise). I could not get Noveau to set a
resolution above 1600x1200. I am running a Dell U3011 and
GTX 470 which normally runs at 2560x1600.

The new beaker FAS groups are created.

I've removed vrutkovs, vhumpa and vbenes from sysadmin-qa and added them

Closing this ticket since the permissions issue is fixed. Please reopen if

Good, cause a whole stuff about softpipe is so bloody lame!

Yes.

gnome-[s]hell on i686 bare metal!?

Gnome shell is not usable (for my defintion of usable, others may be
more tolerant) using the llvm softpipe software driver fallback on
a pair of Athlon MP CPUs.

Generally there has been some notice. There was a significant discussion
when we stopped building 586 kernels and what options were used for 686
builds.

I don't think we had an announcement here when upstream dropped 386
support, but we weren't doing builds for those CPUs in Fedora for a
long time before that change happened.

There have also been some CPU relevant changes in software graphics
support used as a fallback in gnome. Not all 686 machines support
the exact same instruction set and I saw some issues on an AMD CPU
(an Athlon MP). However, with CPUs that old, the software graphics
fallback for gnome is not very usable and you'll want to use another
desktop.

Probably the next change to kernels to look for, would be the end of
non-PAE kernel builds. I haven't heard any serious discussions about
doing this, but that will affect some machines. I have a laptop that
can't run PAE kernels (with a Pentium M CPU).
