# Fedora Quality Assurance Meeting
# Date: 2014-09-01
# Time: 15:00 UTC

# Location: #fedora-meeting on irc.freenode.net

Greetings testers!

It's meeting time tomorrow/today! We're still treading water on Alpha,
unfortunately - it'd be good to sync up with releng, so I'm CCing them
on this email. We really need to get a full-ish TC that's not as busted
as TC4 or TC5 done so we can at least do a full validation run.

If I was going to be around tomorrow I'd also suggest doing some
planning for Beta criteria/test case updates, and talk about moztrap a
bit, but I think I'll be away - tomorrow's a public holiday here in
Canada, and I think I'm going to be out for breakfast. So it'll have to
wait :) I hope someone else will be able to lead the meeting. Thanks!

== Proposed Agenda Topics ==
1. Previous meeting follow-up
  * adamw and apeter to sync up on trialling moztrap for l10n test day
(my status on this is 'no news', sorry! please re-add it)
  * FranciscoD or amita or roshi to write GNOME Test Day post for Fedora
Magazine
2. Fedora 21 status
  * TC4 / TC5 / nightly testing notes?
  * TC6 plan?
3. Open floor

More on SATA crashing

2014-09-01 Thread Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX

Reverting to Heisenbug did not entirely eliminate
SATA crashed under disk activity load.

The ASUS X79-Deluxe that runs omen.com has
three SATA controllers:

Intel® X79 chipset :
2 x SATA 6Gb/s port(s), black
4 x SATA 3Gb/s port(s), black,
Support Raid 0, 1, 5, 10
Marvell® PCIe 9230 controller :
4 x SATA 6Gb/s port(s), dark brown
ASMedia® ASM1061 controller :
2 x SATA 6Gb/s port(s), dark brown
2 x Power eSATA 6Gb/s port(s), green

In the last crash, the active disk was on one of the non Intel
controllers.

As before there was nothing in the log files.
The screen showed error messages on /dev/sdf.
I changed SATA connectors so the root drive is on
the Intel controller.

[Test-Announce] Fedora 21 Alpha Go/No-Go Meeting, Thursday, September 04 @ 17:00 UTC

2014-09-01 Thread Jaroslav Reznik
Join us on irc.freenode.net in #fedora-meeting-2 for this important
meeting, wherein we shall determine the readiness of the Fedora 21 Alpha.

Thursday, September 04, 2014 17:00 UTC (1 PM EDT, 10 AM PDT, 19:00 CEST)

Before each public release Development, QA and Release Engineering meet
to determine if the release criteria are met for a particular release.
This meeting is called the Go/No-Go Meeting.

Verifying that the Release criteria are met is the responsibility of
the QA Team.

Release Candidate (RC) availability and good QA coverage are prerequisites
for the Go/No-Go meeting.

For more details about this meeting see:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Go_No_Go_Meeting

In the meantime, keep an eye on the Fedora 21 Alpha Blocker list:

Fedora 21 Alpha Release Readiness Meeting :: Thursday, Sep. 04, 19:00 UTC

2014-09-01 Thread Jaroslav Reznik
Fedora 21 Alpha Release Readiness Meeting.

date: 2014-09-04 place: irc.freenode.net in #fedora-meeting-2
time: 19:00 UTC (3 PM EDT, 12 PM PDT, 21:00 CEST)

This Thursday, September 04, we will meet to make sure we are coordinated
and ready for the Alpha release of Fedora 21 on Tuesday, September 09, 2014.
Please note that this meeting will occur on September 04 even if the
release is delayed at the Go/No-Go meeting on the same day two hours
earlier.

You may received this message several times, but I was asked to open this
meeting to the teams and I'll also hope this will raise awareness and more
team representatives will come to this meeting. This meeting works best
when we have representatives from all of the teams.

So the program itself is indeed broken.

This bug also exists in F21. I filed a bug a couple of days ago:

 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=735375

I've attached patches in the ticket to fix this.

Can you file this downstream in bugzilla.redhat.com too? We should be
able to propose this as an Alpha freeze exception and pull it in so that
it gets included on the live media.

Hi Adam,

To give a little feedback I updated my sqlite based owncloud 6 to the 7.0.2
in testing.

Converted the database to mysql via the new tool and that worked great.

Trying to go into apps to add new ones etc is very, very slow... But I see
there is an open bug being worked on in github anyway.

Google drive, external 'local' and external smb all working well.

Android owncloud client working with it as is davs:// in F21.

Needed to install libreoffice-headless and setsebool -P httpd_execmem on to
get the document conversion stuff to work... Might be worth adding that to
wiki.

Cheers

Yeah, that's upstream, nothing much to do about it: it's querying the
external app store, I believe.

Good idea! I'll look into that.

It's kinda funny that without a local copy of libreoffice you can't view
an ODT file from the Files app - but you can edit it collaboratively
from the Documents app...:)

Re: Proposing new dual booting release criteria

2014-09-01 Thread Chris Murphy

On Aug 31, 2014, at 11:04 PM, Adam Williamson adamw...@fedoraproject.org
wrote:

On Sun, 2014-08-31 at 18:29 -0600, Chris Murphy wrote:

Note that we're heavily dependent on upstream code, here - we basically
farm the bootloader detection of other OSes out to grub2, which is what
other distros do as well. We probably all act fairly similarly here,
these days. /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober is what does most of the magic.

This is why I'd draw the line on owning our code. The two cited bugs are
 congruent with this.

A more feasible criterion, for me, would be something like 'successful
dual boot with default single-disk install of other Fedora versions and
other major distributions', however we choose to define major exactly.

That may even be too broad. Keeping it narrow to we're responsible
for what our code does different than upstream

So I'm kinda pulled in two different directions on this - I like the
concept of only owning responsibility for our own code, but on the other
hand I also like *functional* release criteria. So it's a bit of a
tricky circle to square. I'm sure we can figure something out, though!

I think the language you have is functional, it just needs a delimiter
establishing our purview. Although, I'd suggest the size of the distribution
doesn't matter, if we nerf someone's system because of something we're not
doing correctly I think we should block on that.

Ideally there'd be a spec we could test against, it'd make this a lot more
binary (pass/fail). It seems like the distros would have to come up with a spec
and agree on it in order to do anything like this, including boot it reliably.
