Workaround: Using gnome classic session at least has not the described

[Test-Announce] Fedora 22 Beta Test Compose 5 (TC5) Available Now!

2015-03-26 Thread Adam Williamson
As per the Fedora 22 schedule [1], Fedora 22 Beta Test Compose 5
(TC5) is now available for testing.

Content information, including changes, can be found at
https://fedorahosted.org/rel-eng/ticket/6132#comment:7 (and comment 8). Please
see the
following pages for download links and testing instructions. Normally
dl.fedoraproject.org should provide the fastest download, but download-
ib01.fedoraproject.org is available as a mirror (with an approximately
1 hour lag) in case of trouble. To use it, just replace "dl" with
"download-ib01" in the download URL.

I'll note that we've never violated process in relation to 864198,
AFAICS. Each time it's come up, the resolution has been to disallow
/boot on btrfs. So far as the blocker process is concerned, that's a
perfectly valid approach to making the bug not a blocker.

I don't see any need for FESCo to do that. We have a process for
deciding whether bugs are blockers. If what you really want is a FESCo-
shaped stick to wave at developers, I'm not sure that's really going
to *help* anything.

Again I don't see any reason to invoke FESCo to do any of that. If we
wanted to do that, it's perfectly fine to do so through the usual
blocker review processes and the teams involved, by policy, in those.

The first one is fairly appalling because it's a.) old, b.) there's a
tested patch, c.) we're in contempt of our own lament for contributors
when b and c and it still doesn't get fixed; and d.) Josef openly
called for replacing grubby with something that works, seeing as
openSUSE, Ubuntu, Debian, (does anyone else?) don't have this problem.

2.

Custom partitioning does not allow convenient removal of volume
including snapshots (btrfs, LVM)
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1185117

This might seem like it snuck up on us, but I predicted it would
become a problem in two different RFEs one of which is ~18 months old.
[1] Neverthless, openSUSE's default highly snapshottycentric behavior
enhances this problem; but so does Docker on Btrfs; and now in
systemd-219 it's using Btrfs snapshots for container cloning. So these
things are going to continue coming out of our ears.

PROPOSAL:

QA doesn't have an exception policy. If a bug is a blocker under the
current criteria, they block release. Done.

Proposal is to submit them to FESCo to a.) acknowledge they're
blockers; b.) grant an exception for blocking Fedora 22 on the basis
that they're not crazy showstoppers for many people yet; and c.)
should be tagged as blockers for Fedora 23, and as such there are no
excuses for them not getting fixed by then.

Why? Process. I think it's better to adhere to process, and thus far
there's a rather obvious resistance to fixing these two bugs in the
Fedora 22 time frame. So here's an alternative approach.

Re: F22 Beta TC4 Workstation, no shutdown possible

2015-03-26 Thread Joerg Lechner
my problem was, that the "unsuccessful shutdowns" did only appear to about a
probabilty to 80%,
therefore "journalctl -b-1" was better, there I could choose that shutdown,
which failed. Anyway since
an update to a newly produced Kernel in Koji (I think it's rc5), the problem of
failing shutdowns
disappeared for now.

Re: F22 Beta TC4 Workstation, no shutdown possible

2015-03-26 Thread Joerg Lechner
Hi,
I have attached in the bug 1206056 now a complete logfile produced via
journalctl -b-1, sofar I didn't try "shutdown -h now". I am waiting for a new
Kernel, which is currently in production (see the bug mentioned). I will make
an update with the new Kernel and then test again. Then I can try "shutdown -h
now".
Kind Regards

[Testing Needed] rolekit-0.3.0-1.fc22

2015-03-26 Thread Stephen Gallagher
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/rolekit-0.3.0-1.fc22

Defying even my own expectations, we've released rolekit 0.3.0 today
with full multiple-instancing support. I'd really like for this to end
up in the Fedora 22 Beta which freezes on Tuesday morning, so if
anyone who is willing can please download the Fedora 22 Server TC5
that will be available in a few hours, update to rolekit-0.3.0 and try
it out, that would be a big help.

Some things to test:

== Database Server Role ==
* Install the first instance from a mostly pristine Server install.
* Install additional instance
* Install some instances with the default owner, others with a custom
one.
* Decommission them in random order.
* Ensure that they can be reached over TCP/IP sockets

== Domain Controller Role ==
No obvious regressions. This is unlikely, since we didn't touch the
Domain Controller role code and made only minor tweaks to the common
code.

Hi,
attach the logfile
of the last trial to shut down, as Adam said "sudo
journalctl -b-1", the final
shutdown I did with manual shutdown.
I think it's
the best to publish the log,
because my knowledge to understand this logfile is
too low.
Sorry I can not
answer to Adams mail, because I currently I get the
"test list mails" very
late, I look up for the newest in the test

Hi,
since installation of

shutdown of the system
possible.
I tried to find the blocking

removing "rhgb quiet", but
after clicking on the shutdown

Any
idea how I can

Building boot.iso's is slightly complicated; the best reference is
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_create_a_Fedora_install_ISO_for_testing
 , perhaps also referring to
https://git.fedorahosted.org/cgit/releng/tree/scripts/run-pungi and
https://git.fedorahosted.org/cgit/releng/tree/scripts/pungify (which
are the actual scripts releng uses, though they have all sorts of
paths and things hardcoded so you can really only use them as
references).

In this case, though, you can just wait for TC5 which will appear soon
with the new libedit included.

Thanks! Expect it to crash soon after, but that's not lorax's fault :)

> 3) I have really no idea on how I can test the third case. Updating
> my Rawhide and experiencing no evident issues is enough?

F22 and Rawhide are different things at this point; F22 is the current
'Branched' release, while Rawhide is at this point where F23 is being
worked on. See https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_Release_Life_Cycle
for (hopefully) an explanation of the whole process.

Updating an F22 install and checking you see no problems is helpful,
but ideally we'll need to get images with the updated fedora-release
built to test that fresh installs have the expected firewall
configuration. TC5 may include it, I'm not totally clear on whether I
got the updated request in in time or not - I'll check with dgilmore
in the morning :)

Hi Adam (and others). I'd like to ask you some questions:

1) Have you got a kickstart for building a custom 'boot.iso' with the
updated libedit-3.1-11.20141030cvs.fc22? It seems like it's a simple
case to test (just need to navigate through the GUI in Anaconda), but I
really have no idea about how I can build an appropriate ISO.

2) Ok, this is fine, I will test a TC4 installation this evening and
give my karma if networking works in Anaconda.

3) I have really no idea on how I can test the third case. Updating my
Rawhide and experiencing no evident issues is enough?

Sorry for the silly questions, but as I said, I'm new to this world so I
can't understand everything.

Kind regards
