Re: tried to install F26 Alpha 1.1 Workstation - no success

2017-03-18 Thread Joerg Lechner

 Hi,
some further tests showed: pata 2,5" disk connected via an usb 2.0 adapter
connected to the laptop on usb 2.0 and usb 3.0 --> installation ok.
Installation on a 32GB usb 3.0 flash medium connected to the same laptop via
usb 2.0 or usb 3.0 doesn't work. The partition table seem to be made (automatic
partitioning) correctly. But sometimes the installation process is very slow,
and before reaching the 100%, when a step takes too long time, there seem to be
a timeout, with breakdown of the running live os, and falling back to the
screen, where there is a choice to click to "live user". Therefore I think this
timeout can happen in the running live user os, or in the F26 installation
process. I tend to think it`s a timeout in the running "live user os" and not
in anaconda, which I think is responsible for the installation. An anaconda
error can be some "slowing downs", or "interruptive processing" of the
installation on an usb flash medium, which may cause the possible timeout in
the live user os. Worthwhile to file a bug or is it enough to mention this
behaviour in this list?
Kind regards

Hi,
install live medium ok, install trial of F26 on an USB 3.0 32GB flash medium,
install with reclaim space, install stops at 29% completion, afterwards break
down of running live session, falls back to "live system user", tried 2 times,
always the same behaviour.
Kind regards

Re: LibreOffice failing on both fc27 and fc26

2017-03-18 Thread GERHARD GOETZHABER
Oh, I know and I do have reset SElinux to permissive mode particularly
since I found out my original problem - Libreoffice denying any calls -
not being caused but just accompanied by SElinux alerts! However, I
assume the mystic fault that has prevented my installation of
Libreoffice from full starting up could be identical with the event
having only given the SElinux alert: There might be something wrong with
procedures of special access to one or more files inside proc/ possibly
disturbing functions of even more software than just Libreoffice!
You should know I always use quite simple installations of Rawhide:
Baremetal, on an ext4 partition without any encryption, with only Xfce
as desktop environment (for I have come to the conclusion this is
currently the very most solid as well as a truly versatile surface
having me leave KDE as my previous favorite). And a whole crowd of
software (including all forbidden multimedia tools) has not shown any
bug therein except just Libreoffice: As I have already told, crazy!
Though, I will not give up and install a new testing system from today's
Rawhide ISO (new kernel, new SElinux policy and so on) ...

Sorry I missed this in my previous reply...as a general rule you don't
want to disable SELinux, rather turn on permissive mode, or if something
is really obstructing your work add a custom module as instructed.

Note that since you've been running with SELinux disabled it's a good
practice to force a relabel on your next system reboot.

Apparently no one else has run into similar issue so that'd be hard to
troubleshoot. It's also pointless, given that the new install is working
fine. A wild guess would be "user error".

That's an unfair statement to KDE maintainers who do put a lot of effort
and have provided the open source community with awesome software. The
least you can do is switch to an environment that suits you. The most
you can do is lend a hand. But statement like that one aren't helping.
