Sorry for the late reply -- it's been a busy month. I'd just like to add
that I'm +1 for to the proposal, with the exception of excluding the help
viewer (e.g. yelp). I think testing to make sure the help browser works is
vital.

I'm torn on this one... I think the release announcement should be done
before the release (with time to properly review it, etc.). That being
said, I'm afraid that all this proposal will do is shift the last-minute
scramble to the Go/No-Go meeting itself. I'd rather look for a solution
that fundamentally makes the situation better, rather than just shifting
the timing. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to come up with a better
proposal :-(

I'm in agreement here -- they seem like very reasonable criteria. As for
the printer drivers, I think that the Postscript ought to be in the list,
and perhaps something along the lines of HP LaserJet 4, as there are lots
and lots and lots of printers that try to stay compatible with that. I'd
also love to see "Print to PDF" added to that list, as I find myself using
that more and more as time goes on.

I've been running the kernel all day on my primary laptop, and it seems
rock solid. I haven't seen any weird Intel wireless crashes (I was getting
two or three a day with the 3.16 kernel), and it's nice to see that the
multi-stream transport stuff (DisplayPort 1.1) is working with the Intel
driver.

I'm wondering if this is hardware-specific, as I'm running an up to date

Once again, you're so concise it's cryptic. Please try to be more
descriptive as you report problems.

What is a 3770? What part of the "startup" failed? How much memory
is in your system? What program was trying to initialize "the 8
threads"? It's hard to help diagnose the problems if you don't give
us more information about what's not working.

Sure, the design isn't perfect -- but as you say, that can be fixed

Not to sound to critical, but can I propose we use "freeze exception"
rather than "freeze break"? I think the word "exception" helps people
understand that we're taking something in that we normally wouldn't --
which is much more aligned with the message we're trying to send than
"nice to have" ever was. And making an exception doesn't break the
freeze (except for that one package), so I think exception fits
better.

I noticed the same thing yesterday while trying to create a live usb
key using livecd-iso-to-disk, only it only seemed to be impacting
certain GUIs. While creating the key, firefox was completely
unresponsive. Gnome terminal seemed to work just fine. Accessing the
GNOME dash (either by pressing the meta key or moving the mouse to the
hot corner) was unresponsive, but I could press CTRL-ALT-down to get
to the second virtual desktop.

In my quick tests in the airport this morning, the issue appears to be
related to USB I/O (at least on my machine), as I can't reproduce the
problem copying data from one SATA disk to another (using a SATA disk
in the CD-ROM bay). I'll try to do some more testing once I get back
home.
