ah, interesting - previous discussion in the thread suggested it was a
bug, but I guess it's a feature...=)

Re: Anaconda is forcing GPT on non-EFI BIOS

2011-08-10 Thread He Rui
It's probably by design as I looked up the anaconda/changes page[1] and
found two features related:

* x86 uses GPT disklabels by default on all machines, even non-EFI.
* If a GPT boot disk is used on a non-EFI machine, a warning will be
displayed.

If you didn't already, can you file a bug on this? Seems a blogger hit
the same thing, and has been confused into thinking GPT is default for
Fedora 16:

Also when I tried to add BIOS boot partition (seems to be required to be
able to boot on non-EFI bios), Anaconda crashed:

I was also forced to a GPT in a non-virtual system with a disk that is
much smaller than 2TB (don't know the exact size right now, can look
that up tomorrow CEST if it matters).

Correct. There's no forcing by us, your hardware forced us to use GPT
because of the size of its disk.

If you have a UEFI-capable system, I suggest using it in UEFI mode.

Anaconda is forcing GPT on non-EFI BIOS

2011-08-02 Thread Athmane Madjoudj
Hello,

I noticed when I tried to install F16 Alpha TC1 on a new guest ie:
without any existing partition table that Anaconda is forcing GPT
instead of msdos even on a classic BIOS (non EFI)

Any idea why ?

Thanks.
