Re: F21 Beta TC3 refused to mount NTFS partition

2014-10-14 Thread Joerg Lechner
Hi,
So far BIOS in UEFI mode on this Laptop (ACER Aspire E 15 E5 -571G, I bought it
2 month ago) does not "see" this external disk. The reason can be the about 7
years old adapter. I can boot F21 Live CDs, also on USB stick in UEFI mode. So
far I have the feeling that the UEFI branch of the bios in this laptop is
optimized for Win 8, but currently I have no external SATA disk and "up to
date" usb adapter to try out this. The external disk (Pata) contains only F21,
installed via Live CD.
 Kind Regards

Is the external disk formatted as GPT with an EFI partition? I
installed F20 to a USB stick and it is bootable via EFI. It should be
the same for a USB hard drive.

Re: F21 Beta TC3 refused to mount NTFS partition

2014-10-13 Thread Joerg Lechner
Thank You Kamil and Chuck for Your help.
Now I have access to the Windows disk running F21 TC3.
According to what You had told me, I did the following:
- login Windows 8.1 as admin
- shut down using Windows-X
- start Windows as user
- leaving Windows via restart
- stop in Bios mode, switch to Legacy Mode (UEFI mode does not accept my
external F21 pata disk)
- now I have r/w access to the internal disk (Windows 8.1) of the Acer Laptop
running F21 on an external disk.

When I use Windows again and afterwards I want to use F21 with r/w access of
the Win disk, I have to leave Windows via restart.
But it's not neccessary to login as admin a second time. So far my experience
today.
Kind Regards

Windows 8 does not shutdown when you tell it to shutdown. Instead it
"partially hibernates". To be sure that Windows 8 really shuts down,
either turn off the "Fast Startup" (aka hybrid boot, aka hybrid
shutdown) option in Windows 8 (not in the BIOS/UEFI), or do a
"Restart" in Windows 8 but then choose to boot Fedora before Windows
starts.

Windows, switched to Legacy F21 and back to Windows etc. In one of my trials I
could access in F21 Beta TC3 the Windows disk, but currently there is this
Error
Message again. Possibly there is an "influence" of the UEFI mode sometimes, in
this case I would think it's a BIOS problem and not F21.

2014-10-13 Thread Joerg Lechner
Hi,
I don't find a "fast restart" button in the BIOS. Windows 8.1 I have to run in
UEFI Mode. For F21 I have to switch to Legacy Mode. There is in UEFI Mode a
button "Secure Boot Mode" which is on "standard". Anyway I did several Boots of

But I didn't have a problem like that previously in F21 Alpha and Beta TC2.

Most likely your Windows is not shut down, because you have not disabled 'fast
restart' feature, as the error message suggests. Or have you?

F21 Beta TC3 refused to mount NTFS partition

2014-10-12 Thread Joerg Lechner
Hi,
On an Acer Aspire E 15 E5-571G Laptop I run F21 on an external disk connected
via USB. So far I could mount the Windows 8.1 partition of the internal disk of
the laptop - was possible with F21 Alpha, Beta TC2. Installation now F21 Beta
TC3 Workstation 86_64.
Now with Beta TC3, when I want to get access to the Windows partition
(clicking in the File Manager on the "Acer Windows Disk" and giving su
password) there is the message:

Error mounting /dev/sda4 at /run/media/joerg/Acer: Command-line `mount -t
"ntfs" -o
"uhelper=udisks2,nodev,nosuid,uid=1000,gid=1000,dmask=0077,fmask=0177"
"/dev/sda4" "/run/media/joerg/Acer"' exited with non-zero exit status 14:
Windows is hibernated, refused to mount.
Failed to mount '/dev/sda4': Die Operation ist nicht erlaubt
The NTFS partition is in an unsafe state. Please resume and shutdown
Windows fully (no hibernation or fast restarting), or mount the volume
read-only with the 'ro' mount option.

Is this a ok for F21 Beta TC3? Is the partition check in TC3 more detailed now
and my Windows (currently shut down) really is in "an unsafe state"?
Kind Regards
