No, I just updated my desktop from F14 to Rawhide using the repos. I had
to remove a few packages due to the libnotify API change to stop them
blocking the update, and I ported and rebuilt xchat-gnome as I actually
need that one.

Would you have a working rawhide disk that you have personally used to set
up your rawhide system? I would love to be able to get the iso from you if
possible someway or somehow!?!

Sincerely yours,

I usually try to install from the gnome desktop, but I am truly willing to
try the kde spin

rawhide livecd desktop failures

2010-11-11 Thread Rob Healey
Dear Jan:

>Care to explain what fails when using rawhide?

For me, on yesterday's upgrade, it was:
1) rsyslog
2) /etc/udev/rules.d/10-console

>From where did you upgrade?

I upgraded from a fully updated fc14 x86_64 install from a dvd on RC3.1/ 6
Aug 2010

>Fedora 14? Do you have a smolt profile of your hardware?

I do, but I do not know how to access it or where the information would be?
I will try to find it and post back...

>Any proprietary drivers likne nvidia?

No, using drivers from fedora...

Rob G. Healey

that's not particularly logical; the state of f14 has little to do with
the state of rawhide. (and, if you want to go with suspend/resume, my
desktop can suspend/resume with rawhide but not with f14...)

ACK. F14 is bleeding edge enough for me ATM, especially on my new Macbook
air (yep, opened bugzillas on the obvious stuff). Untill basic stuff works
(suspend does, resume doesn't ;-) I will stay away from rawhide.

Look at the rawhide reports and take note of all of the conflicts. Those
make it hard to upgrade or build images. I seem to remember inotify being
a key problem that needs fixing, as some stuff was dependent on that getting
fixed.

There are a lot of dependency conflicts right now in rawhide. You'd need to
be careful about package selection to get a live image to build. These also
make upgrades pretty difficult as well.

well, the nightly live composes have all been failing since I switched
to rawhide right after the release of f14, until today! ;)

The kde spin composed today:

http://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/nightly-composes/kde/

No idea if it boots or works however. Feedback welcome.
