 For me
 $ xdg-open Pictures/
 which: no gnome-default-applications-properties in ..

xdg is looking for gnome-default-applications-properties binary, which
is missing in gnome-shell and it fallbacks to KDE apps. Therefore I
have many KDE apps autostarted in gnome instead (e.g. dolphin instead
 nautilus for the Picture case).

I did not found a bug about it, so it looks like this is working for
 everybody, but me?

OK, what you're seeing is likely some other problem then.

I'll do some more testing on my own in the meantime.

Ah.. sorry, I checked wrong commit. I see now the redirection is changed.
Well the error is not displayed now, but still it starts konqueror
instead nautilus.

I'd love to verify that, but I do not see any difference between this
commit and patch:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/attachment.cgi?id=461442&action=diff
that should be included in xdg-utils, right?

What second piece/adjustment had you in mind?

See,
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=654746

and followup upstream commit,
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xdg/xdg-
utils/commit/?id=94da2bc195a43c1fc957679ecbcac3ea9ed3189c

Erm, looks like I never released an update with that second piece. :(

Can you verify if making that adjustment makes it work for you?

I get that same error.

I do get nautilus showing up though. But then I don't have any KDE apps
installed.

There is no entry in there for file managers.

I was looking at it, but there is no way how to specify e.g. default "open
file" - when I insert e.g. USB stick, it auto opens doplhin. The set
there is pretty limited.

Did you set your preferred applications in system settings -> system
info -> Default applications? (new spot since gnome-shell) If you did
and it really ignores that then it's safe to say that it should be filed
as a bug.

xdg-open with gnome shell

2011-06-02 Thread Adam Pribyl
Does anybody know what is a replacement for
gnome-default-applications-properties, or how the setup of xdg-open
should work under gnome shell?

For me
$ xdg-open Pictures/
which: no gnome-default-applications-properties in ..

xdg is looking for gnome-default-applications-properties binary, which is
missing in gnome-shell and it fallbacks to KDE apps. Therefore I have
many KDE apps autostarted in gnome instead (e.g. dolphin instead
nautilus for the Picture case).

I did not found a bug about it, so it looks like this is working for
everybody, but me?

Thanks
