[Texascavers] In Cave Digital Survey(ICDS) Equipment and the ICDS Process

2008-03-15 Thread Mark Passerby
Well I finally found some time today to put together an article on In Cave
Digital Survey(ICDS). It details the equipment used and the ICDS Process.
It also contains links to Adobe Illustrator files for download for users of
Illustrator 9,10, or CS.

You can view the article online at:

For those interested in ICDS I recommend reading and viewing:
The Walls Manual especially the section on Roundtripping SVG Maps

and
Brandon Kowallis's Adobe Illustrator Tutorials at

I've never heard of it before, and doubt that it's been used in
FSC. There's been no major survey work there since Snowy River in 2003.
I was on three later minor surveys (Engel Hill breakdown, Helictite Hall
dig, and Skyscraper Domes bone location) all of which used only Suunto
compasses and inclinometers as far as I recall.

[NMCAVER] Fort Stanton Campground

2008-03-15 Thread Steve Peerman

Hi all!
Please find attached a picture of the newly renovated Fort Stanton
Campground. I call your attention to the posts lining the parking
areas. This will prevent anyone from driving off the road
and parking on the grass below the road. I'm a little disappointed
in this development. It will be difficult to hold regionals here in
the future.

Steve Peerman

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things
you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines,
Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in you sails.
Explore. Dream. Discover."
attributed to Mark Twain, but no record exists of his having
written this.

article about Robber Barron being the longest cave in the world. That
reporter was interviewing George Veni.

Wow Mark. Thanks so much for the kind words.
