[Texascavers] UT Grotto New Years Eve party

2015-12-14 Thread Mixon Bill via Texascavers
The New Years Eve party for UT Grotto and friends will be at Bill Mixon's,
14045 North Green Hills Loop, Austin, Texas 78737. Google knows where that is.
Don't let the "north" fool you; the address is actually in northern Hays
Country. Call (512 288-4991) or e-mail if you need directions. There should be
enough parking in the yard if used efficiently.

Dark-thirty till its over. It's not really meant to be supper, but bring
whatever food or munchies you want to, plus beverages appropriate to the
occasion. Hot tub is promised, and if the weather is decent there will be a
bonfire separate from the hot tub. There is plenty of yard or floor space for
those disinclined to drive (or incapable of driving) home in the wee hours. If
you stay over and can't function in the morning without coffee, bring your own.

[Texascavers] AMCS news

2015-12-14 Thread Mixon Bill via Texascavers
The Association for Mexican Cave Studies has a new book on Mexican cave biology
for sale. It is by José Palacios-Vargas, Christian Juberthie, and James
Reddell. It is a joint publication of the International Society for
Subterranean Biology (as Encyclopædia Biospeologica Vol IIa) and the Unión
Mexicana de Agrupiones Espeleológica (as Mundos Subterráneos 26-27). Mainly an
annotated list of known cave fauna in Mexico, with an extensive bibliography.
Price from AMCS is $12, plus postage ($4 for one book in US). See
http://www.mexicancaves.org/other/biospeo.html for details about the book, and
http://www.mexicancaves.org/finance/order.html for how to order (Paypal
available).

"Chronicles of the Old Reading Grotto, " Squire Lewis's delightful road-trip
journal about a trio of cave bums visiting the 1966 NSS convention, caving and
touring in Mexico, and visiting cavers in Austin and Huntsville, is now
available as a free PDF file on the AMCS web site:
http://www.mexicancaves.org/other/squire.pdf. Paper copies are still available
for $8.

The deadline for material for AMCS Activities Newsletter 39, to be published
early next summer, is May 1, 2016.

Happy holidays and good caving -- Mixon

Guess the question is whether the rope will still be life safety rated after
the project?
