[Texascavers] UT Grotto Meeting - Aug 17

2016-08-14 Thread Aubri Jenson via Texascavers
Greetings, cavers!

This week at the UT Grotto meeting Walter Olenick will talk about lava
tubes that he had the opportunity to explore earlier this year in Hilo,
Hawaii! These are very different geologically and biologically from
'classic karst' caves, and present some unique challenges in survey.
The presentation portion of the grotto meeting will be live streamed via
Periscope https://www.periscope.tv/utgrotto at approximately 8:30pm CST
(the actual time will be announced via Twitter @UTGrotto).
***

The meeting is at 7:45pm in Burdine 116. Follow this link to a map of where
the building is located on the University of Texas campus:
http://www.utexas.edu/maps/main/buildings/bur.html

For information on Underground Texas Grotto activities, please see
www.utgrotto.org

Before the meeting, take advantage of Sao Paulo www.saopaulos.net for happy
hour specials. This is the best place to park and meet folks walking over
to the meeting. After the meeting we continue with the decades long
tradition to reconvene for burgers, beer, and tall tales of caving at Posse
East! www.posse-east.com

See you there!
Cheers,
Aubri Jenson
UT Grotto Vice-chair

There is a small death notice in today’s Austin Statesman paper about
Charlie.  It says “Charles M. Yates age 65 of Dripping Springs passed
away Aug. 10, 2016.  Service Aug. 27, 10:00am at Weed-Corley-Fish Lake
Travis Chapel, Lakeway, TX.”

Re: [Texascavers] Yates Photos

2016-08-14 Thread Fritz Holt via Texascavers
Great pictures, Carl. Thanks for posting. I would like to have a CD of the
Charlie and His Canon 2011 video if one is available. I was surprised to see
that he was a resident of Dripping Springs, where I live.

PS, Cavers are welcome to visit June and me at our little Hill Country paradise
just north of Dripping. FH

Re: [Texascavers] update on Charlie Yates

2016-08-14 Thread Fritz Holt via Texascavers
I thoroughly enjoyed this great video on Charlie Yates and the battle of San
Jacinto. Watching it on my I-phone was very disruptive due to the start and
stop of the catch up process. Can this be purchased on a CD? I would very much
like to purchase one or more.
