I was honored to stay with John Attaway in February when we had a NSS Officers meeting nearby. John and I talked about Steve who was a brilliant engineer and had multiple interests. He was incredibly active caver in the southeast until he moved west for work. Thirty years after moving, his caving exploits were still being discussed. I don’t know how many people also told me that Steve was one of the smartest and most personable people they had ever meet. Our paths only crossed a few times but I had wished I had known him better.
He passed away way too early and it is a great loss. My condolences to the family and friends.
