Re: [Texascavers] [SWR CAVERS] Special Presentation at Carlsbad Caverns today!

2019-06-09 Thread Steve Keselik
George, it's been along time since I've seen you. I've always enjoyed your
company and appreciate all you do for our karst ,cave and hydro resources!
When you speak or post ,I listen! You are an old friend that has moved
away but is fighting the good fight. Keep it up! I haven't made a local
grotto meeting in years but I read the announcements. Team Troglo Brau has
still got your back brother. Not many others that have put in the time in
Powell's stream passage! I found the announcement very informative and I
learned something. Now can you teach me how to put an umlaut over the E in
Zoe on the computer? My daughter, who's name we picked way before it became
popular would appreciate it! Lol All the best to You,Steve and the gang
P.S. Keep the posts coming even if it's after the fact.

[Texascavers] Cave rescue in Vietnam

2019-06-09 Thread George Veni
I just learned of this dire cave rescue in Vietnam:

https://tuoitrenews.vn/news/society/20190607/over-100-rescuers-join-efforts-to-save-man-trapped-in-cave-in-northern-vietnam/50238.html

The UIS Cave Rescue Commission is working to establish contacts in Vietnam and
offer assistance through the Asian Union of Speleology and other sources. On
behalf of the Commission, I have just reached out to all staff listed on the US
National Cave Rescue Commission website to make them aware of the situation and
in case there is anything they may be able to do to help.

My long-distance assessment of the situation is that some major earth-moving
equipment is needed to divert water flow from the cave entrance and then to dig
it open. I expect it may be more complicated than that, and hope for the best
possible outcome.

Re: [Texascavers] Tiny caving vehicles

2019-06-09 Thread Mike Flannigan

Some people say that it is not worth using LPG instead
of gasoline in the US, even if the conversion cost
is zero.  Personally I don't have any experience with it.
It is probably true that the economics of using C3 are
more beneficial in countries outside the USA.

Convert your Sequoia to LPG, not sure what the price or availability of lpg
is in Texas but here is about one third of the cost of gasoline and you can
find it pretty much anywhere, the conversion pays for itself the more you
drive, and perhaps you may even get a tax cut or some sort of fiscal
stimulus for going green,
