Thank you to the 6 donors (including Bill, Caroline, Patty, and three
anonymous donors) who contributed to help bring CaveSim to TCR. They
donated on this GoFundMe page

that
Galen put together. And thank you to the Bexar Grotto, the DFW grotto, and
quite a few members of the UT Grotto for contributing as well. Having
raised $470 on GoFundMe and $950 at grotto meetings, we're now 44% of the
way to bringing CaveSim to TCR.

There's a big reason to bring CaveSim to TCR that you haven't heard about
yet: we're planning several public educational events before/after TCR.
These events will be free to the public, and they'll only be possible if we
can raise the funds to bring CaveSim to TCR. I also have requests from
several schools in the Austin area for CaveSim programs before TCR. During
CaveSim events, I work really hard to teach kids and adults about
conservation of caves, and you can see what that looks like in the new
video that I posted on cavesim.com. Are you willing to help make these
programs possible by bringing CaveSim to TCR? Go to this GoFundMe page

to
help out. And if you're willing to help me contact other folks who might
want to support this project, please let me know.

Thanks to everyone who has helped out so far! Let's bring CaveSim back to
TCR!
Cave softly,
Dave

Re: [Texascavers] caving newsletters on the web

2019-08-06 Thread George Veni
This url is to a part of the Karst Information Portal, which I discuss directly
on this list about once or twice a year and indirectly more often. The Portal
is a 4-way partnership. NCKRI is the Managing Partner. Within the past year
we've sent about 1,100 items for posting on the Portal's online library and
arrange partnerships for organizations to post their newsletters and journals,
such the Texas Caver. The University of South Florida (the "USF" in the url in
the message below) is the Operations Partner and handles the hardware and
software end of things. The University of New Mexico serves as the "think tank"
for innovations and growth, and the International Union of Speleology promotes
the Portal globally.

The more common and intuitive url is www.karstportal.org.

Thanks to all who helped make the Save the Caves fundraiser a success! We
raised a good amount of money for TCMA and had a great time doing it! Special
thanks to Buffalo Billiards for donating use of the venue, the band for all
their time and effort rocking the house, CaveSkinz and Whole Earth for the
awesome door prizes, and all the donors and attendees! The winner of the
skydiving raffle was Gretchen Janzau and the winner of the caving trip was Tim
Gocha.

Cheers,
