I agree with Gill agreeing with Alan and Linda. Additionally, I have quite often given extra money at registration when I could to help offset for some who can’t afford it. I’m looking forward to TCR. I missed it last year because I was one of the exceptionally broke and couldn’t make it. It messes up my whole year when I miss because it’s the only time I can truly relax and be among people I thoroughly enjoy. If I don’t wear my wrist band, can I pick who throws me out? He was a graduate from UT and a very active caver in the 70-80’s. He spent a few years caving in the Austin area, made numerous trips to Mexico, then moved back to San Antonio, and was actively caving there for many years. He spent many years caring for his ailing parent in the 90’s and up until his mom died in 2011. His health had been declining over the past few years. He constantly emailed his friends with humorous, goofy, and insulting emails numerous times each day, and when those emails stopped, and he wouldn’t answer his phone several of us were concerned. One of his friends went to his house, and after he didn’t get a response, he called the police who eventually discovered Scott dead inside. I am planning to host a memorial / celebration of his life at my house Saturday April 18th starting at 6:30pm. It was the remenants of flashbulbs and a reflector I had dragged through some of the caves in Cuetzalan, Mexico while doing some cave photography. There was a worry that some of the bulbs could be cracked, in which case they would explode when fired, but luckily, none of them did during the several takes it took to film it. I worked in the darkroon and there was a sliding door leading to the front office and a hallway. As I opened the door one day, I was startled to find Lenard Nimoy leaning against the wall smoking a cigarette; he was in costume with his pointy ears, and all I could think of saying was, Hi, I understand you are from Boston. Mallory is currently in Churchill but will probably be moved to Cornerstone to have more independent living. They will make them plan their own meals and plan the ingredients needed. This ought to be a first for Mal. The place was beautiful and will be again but they are doing construction now, so a lot of the pretty places are torn up. We like it though since it is more like home. We (Steve, Caleb and I) walked out of the building the other day and heard bugs. It hit me that I hadn't heard that roar of bugs at nighttime in 7 weeks. Apparently, Houston has no bugs. It also smelled like camping because the place has a lot of pine trees. The ride out there is great, no real traffic. I am staying a hotel that gives a discount for Touchstone. It is too far to commute from Mallory's apartment. When we leave here, we can bring Mal home to Avoyelles Parish for a couple of weeks before she needs to see her neurologist in Houston. We are going to love that. If she is OK this week, I am going to go home during the week next week to get everything clean and ready for her to come home. You can't visit her until 4 p.m. and then until 9 but I still like to get home at least shortly after dark, so I can't see her like I could in TIRR. I am actually more worried about me leaving her. I have seen her every day for what will be 8 weeks and been so protective of her, I am going to be the one having problems leaving her. It was rough for her making the move to a new place but she is doing OK with it now. She wants to get out as soon as possible but understands she needs to get everything she can out of her stay here. The physical is going very well, the cognitive issues need improving. Time and therapy will help. We found out before leaving TIRR she has a vision problem, but we also need the swelling to go down before any correction is made to her glasses. We stopped at her apartment on the way from Houston to here to get more clothes. She got to see all the wonderful gifts, cards, and other items that people had given her and she just cried she was so touched. She couldn't believe how nice people have been to her. She was so appreciative of everything that people have done for her. It really helped her emotionally making the move to a new place. We had to bring things home to her apartment because there was no room in some of her rooms and we didn't want to lose anything. We had told her and shown the list we were keeping but with her short term memory loss, she didn't remember plus it is so different actually seeing things. All of you have been wonderful and you are really helping Mallory through this emotional part of the recovery. And you have helped me so much. [Texascavers] Inappropriate emails
I am still receiving inappropriate emails from people bashing Locklear about his visits to Mallory. I have known David for quite some time and while he may not always say or do the proper thing (who of us do?), he is not mean spirited and actually is a kind, caring person. I mean, I haven't been to see her. He went out of his way to visit. I have never known him to say anything mean about anyone, but people sure seem to like to go after him. I realize at some point he and Mallory had a falling out, but I know that there was reconciliation there in the same way I reconciled with Mallory when we had a falling out. I wonder if Mallory remembers that, that we made up, or does she still think we are mad at each other? I believe Vickie said quite specifically that Mal's cognitive abilities are not functioning at full capacity and she gets a lot of things mixed up. I don't understand this continued bashing of David. I wonder what a sad, pathetic life someone must have to wallow in this kind of vicious behavior. And, I feel quite strongly that Vickie can manage her's and Mallory's business quite appropriately and effectively without all this (just judging by her posts). It is not anyone's business other than Vickie's unless SHE specifically asked someone to intervene. I cannot believe that the subject was even discussed with Mallory, which the emails say it did and she was pissed at Locklear. She should be focusing on her recovery and not being incited to anger by such hatefulness. If she doesn't want him to visit, her mom will take care of it and this whispering and sniggering behind his back is sickening. I find these emails I am receiving to be hateful and hurtful for no other apparent reason than someone wants to be an ass. I am very disappointed in one of the people involved that I considered to be a friend. I never realized that he gossiped and stirred up trouble the way he has been doing in this situation. It has brought me to the unhappy realization that he is not to be trusted, and is not the kind of person I want to call a friend. I hope this will now stop and we can focus on Mallory and her recovery, rejoicing in how well she is doing and not all this hate mongering. Sheryl

When asked during OT what her name was she answered: Mallory Mayeux. Where was she from: Longbridge, Louisiana (It's really where we live-suburb of Cottonport). Who was I- Miss Vickie-This is what my little Pre-K students call me and she calls me that sometimes especially when she is picking on me. Later in the day, the speech therapist asked her brother's name. She answered Caleb Mayeux. And it was so neat when her grandma called me. I had my mom talk to her on the phone. Well, mom said Hey Mallory, and Mal answered back Hey grandma. I was floored by all of this and so excited I cried. She is mouthing all of this and it comes out as a faint whisper at best because she has the trachea tube in and air is not passing over her vocal cords. They have what is called a voice little round thing on the end of her tube that she wears during the day to help her make sound but she isn't forceful enough. But it is clear to everyone what she is saying. She is enunciating very clearly. Also, during OT Steve told them how she had been on American Idol and sang I'm so excited. So the OT who is exactly Mal's age found it on her I-phone and her and Mal sang it and Mal even danced (moving her shoulders) while sitting on the exercise bench. We were so shocked. It was Mal's personality coming out. Everybody loved it. She was so funny because she kept reaching for the OT's I-phone, was able to turn it on. But the OT would say you have to sit for however long, then I will give it to you. We have Mal's I-phone there but she didn't want to listen to her music when I asked-too tired. It is password protected, so we will have to wait until she can open it. She also turned on a blinking wand, is helping to push up for sitting and standing, responding to commands. Absolutely incredible! Please say those thanksgiving prayers. The doctors say she is moving fast. The only sad thing is that now that she is aware (not constantly though) she cried four different times today. Once, when her dad had to leave. He woke up this morning at 2:30 a.m. to go to court about the guy who hit her. We are definitely going to be the squeaking wheel. The prosecutor has 600 cases, but most are not nearly as serious as Mal's. But she calmed down when I told her dad would be back the next day. Later, she was being put on the tilt table where they need to test her blood pressure as she stands. It takes a long time and they have to check all along the way. When she got to the top, she started crying, her muscles are hurting, and she is strapped in, too. So I just hugged her and she wrapped her arms around me and hugged me, too. It felt so good to be able to hug her after not being able to touch her for so long. She calms down after loving and reassuring her. We are still in awe of the accomplishments of today. The good thing was I learned the foot exercises before I saw Mal move and I learned them fine. Well after Mal moved, OT tried to teach the shoulder exercises. I couldn't quite get them down. Such roller coaster emotions. Luckily, Patti was there and helped me write them down and remember them. Tonight, she actually did the shoulder exercises and I watched. I told the doctor that's where I wanted her three nights ago when it was first mentioned. He laughed, because I don't think he was expecting me to express my preference so emphatically, but he said OK. Memorial Hermann, her hospital, owns that facility. For a short time, the Tirr PT is working in Memorial Hermann so it was Tirr employees who worked on her yesterday and today. Started warming her today. She was at 93.3 degrees when we left at 9 p.m (up from 91.4 for the past three days). They have to go slow because problems can occur if you go too fast, so they are going extra slow with Mal. They are keeping her paralyzed because this works. They’re very slowly easing her off the drugs they’re using to keep her stable. They only drained her brain fluids once (just 7cc’s), and this was just so they rese archers could get a sample – not because her brain pressure (ICP) was too high. Mal’s friend Jamie Ducote drove in today from Avoyelles. He is her friend from college that got her to go to Houston for the American Idol audition. He sings great. Mal can’t. It has been 10 years since that event, and they were talking about having a ten-year anniversary audition. Three cavers came by today (Roger Moore, Lyndon, and Grayson) delivering gifts of food, a card, and a get-well-soon bear signed by the Greater Houston Grotto (Houston caving club). Yesterday, they brought a signed piggy bank. I’m a good mom. I took Mal’s hamster out and let it run around Mal’s apartment in its ball – but I used a paper towel to put it there. Julia, I am not sure that Mallory would want photos of her in this condition emailed around. Keep it and give it to her if she wants it, but sending that out is completely inappropriate.
