Re: [Texascavers] Archival epoxy

2020-01-08 Thread Terry Holsinger

Quick online search finds it available at "Skygeek" links below:

https://www.skygeek.com/momentive-epon-resin-828-1-quart.html

https://www.skygeek.com/momentive-3223-deta-epikure-curing-agent-4-oz.html

Their price looks good for the Quart + 4 oz amount (real epoxies are
not cheap) but maybe a little more searching would be in order to find
it cheaper.

Also a link to the manufacturers site showing "local" distributors:

https://www.hexion.com/en-us/chemistry/epoxy-resins-curing-agents-modifiers/epoxy-distributors

If yes, maybe a larger search area within our community... such as
Cavers of Facebook or Cavechat.

Tom,

I would recommend that you contact Val and Jim Werker, they may provide you
with some sources for the epoxy.

I've copied them on the email.

Gregg,
Discoloring, offgassing, and eventual failure is what happens with regular
hardware store epoxies.
According to those with experience.

Whats the reasoning behind using archival epoxy for cave restoration? Do
regular epoxies discolor or otherwise damage the rock?
