My beloved 2008 Toyota Sequoia left me stranded tonight for the 3rd time.

https://photos.app.goo.gl/rFmpUvGUNu23fS2X9

I left work after only 3 hours today, as my plan was to do nothing but
relax, as it was my 55th birthday.

I decided to go to LOWE's right before they closed and buy an LED headlamp
that I had been waiting for weeks to try. They didn"t have it.

A customer had ordered a 16 foot ladder online and apparently brought it
back. I haggled with the manager and got it half-price. He told me, it
would be regular price in the morning. I would not have bought it had it
not been birthday.

I loaded it in the SUV, and was all alone in the parking lot and apparently
the starter gear broke.

If you can view the photo, you can see four feet of ladder sticking out the
back.

This is a podium-ladder, meaning it has a platform at 10 feet off the
ground, to safely stand on.

Hopefully, the TSC will get this someday and will find a use for it in the
barn, or auction it off.

I am hoping to use it in my storage unit in Brenham, however, I have
already nearly broken it twice. I have no idea how I will get it there
now.

GEICO came through with a good tow. But now, the Sequoia is parked at my
apartments and I have no idea what I am going to do tomorrow.

It was a wise choice for me not to drive the Sequoia to the NSS
Convention. That would have been devastating, embarrassing, humiliating
and a lot less fun than hitch-hiking.

You just can not go anywhere anymore without tow-insurance.

I will likely have to greet a million Walmart customers - just to pay for
my June mistakes.

[Texascavers] For your amusement

2019-07-01 Thread David
>From David Locklear

My beloved Sequoia left me stranded for the second time this week, but this
time in the scorching sun, while wearing my fancy work clothes.

I have the Sequoia back in the shop now. I assume its just a battery.

In my younger days, I would have just gone to the store and put in a new
battery, but in the modern cars, it requires additional labor and
head-scratching, etc.

But they let me use a loaner-car. Being late to work, I had no choice but
to pay them an arm and a leg to replace a battery.

The Sequoia is hereby renamed, "The Drama-Machine. "
It would have never made it to Cookeville, Tennessee and back without
devestating me.

The Sequoia ( Lemon) seems to be lots of good money after bad. Trade it in
on a brand new Yugo or Lada or maybe a Fiat?
My 1983 Ford Bronco has over 700,000 miles and has never failed. The drive
shaft fell off in Mexico once but I just wired it back and went on in two
wheel.

A similar thing happened to my 4WD school bus coming back from Mexico one time.
In the middle of the International Bridge heading into Texas the pinion nut
broke or fell off, dropping the rear drive shaft. We took the rear shaft off,
locked the hubs and drove back to Austin with the front drive shaft.

Similar story in Blake's Hog of Steel. Three days after crossing Rio Grande
south to north at Big Bend, yes the truck was flooded and died in the river,
but a roadgrader pulled us out the next morning. On I - 35 the rear driveshaft
slung itself apart and clanged down the road behind us.
Front wheel drive got us back to Austin.
Ask Blake to tell you this story sometime. Takes several hours.
