Re: [Texascavers] Glenn Canyon: The Place No One Knew:

Man is always doing his best, either to change the environment or save it.
The planet it evolving as well and what we are doing is pushing it ahead at
a greater speed. We can predict the outcome as long as things are somewhat
constant but given a mega eruption, hit from space, a earth quake on the
coast and there is no telling. Gia holds the joker in the deck.

I have always been at odds with the dam builders. The Chinese destroyed a
whole systme with their mega project a decade ago. Too many people in the
hive will be our undoing. The rise of the Condo Canyon world is to me
disgusting. You can buy a postage stamp with a view of Town Lake and Zilker
Park for 200K. Why does that sound so apauling to me? I guess my mind can't
conceive mega story warrens to store people.

[Texascavers] Glenn Canyon: The Place No One Knew:

2018-09-19 Thread Carl Kunath
The loss of Glenn Canyon is tragic in the extreme.

We can never get it back but may profit from hindsight. Eliot Porter’s book
may cause you to reach for a Kleenex.

Thanks Lee.

I read that. I was in college (1955) when all that was going on. Just
starting to run rivers and cave and listened to a live concert by the Weavers
with Pete Seager in Troy, NY, who made a pitch against the Glenn Canyon Dam. An
innovative (at the time) movie of Glenn Canyon had also been made using color
slides that were panned and zoomed in and out of on 16mm film.

I never thought it should have been built in the first place. I am not sure how
many, if any, caves it flooded.

It will never completely "revert". But it's a step n the right direction.
