[Texascavers] Plural Nouns for Cavers -We have a winner!

FINAL RESULTS OF THE PLURAL NOUN FOR CAVERS POLL

from Texas Cavers, Southwestern Region and Sandia Grotto lists



There were 59 Nouns on the original ballot suggested by cavers  and 4 on 
the runoff ballot.

59 cavers voted in the final poll.

Here are the results of the runoff poll that just ended:

A formation of cavers    27 votes
A crawl of cavers    20 votes
A descent of cavers   7 votes
A column of cavers    5 votes
 59 votes total

Now that we have formation as the plural nouns for cavers, let's start 
using it once in a while in press releases and with other cavers in the 
USA and around the world.  No longer say "a bunch of cavers".  Now why 
didn't someone suggest that one?  😁

For the record, it was NSS caver John Cochran of Albuquerque who 
submitted the word formation in the original ballot of 59 entries.


Here are are few more examples of ways that the plural noun for cavers 
could be used:



The city welcomed the formation of hundreds of NSS cavers to its annual 
convention.



A formation of tired cavers was camped down by the creek where its 
waters disappeared into a narrow crack in its limestone bed.



After exiting the cave, a hungry formation of twelve cavers went into 
town to meet at the Oso Grille for dinner.



The formation of cavers carefully traversed the muddy ledge above the 
deep black void.



The tireless formation of ridgewalking cavers diligently searched the 
hillside for the elusively reported hole.

AND, i would like to point out that the TSA convention shirts HAVE a formation

more of gaggle or a herd of mud encrusted

I agree Charlie. Makes me thing of a wedge formation of Roman or Greek
soldiers with shields and swords ready for battle!
