Re: [Texascavers] Ruidoso News: Historian adds perspective to lecture on Carlsbad Caverns
Most interesting. I visited the cavern as a teen and was part of the mapping team with Ron Bridgeman at one time. We mapped two other caves in the park, Spider Cave was one of them as I recall. That was a long time ago when my knees were in better shape for crawling and climbing. On Thu, Sep 6, 2018 at 9:36 PM Lee H. Re: [Texascavers] Ruidoso
Hi Nico: Pity you were not caving when I was beating around Mexico in the 60's and 70's! I have appreciated your posts. The rental property is a large house zoned commercial a block off the center of downtown Ruidoso. That part is rented long-term and pays for the property and a bit more. There is a junky old 3-room cabin behind the house that we lived in on weekends while working on ski patrol (both my wife and I and two kids). All the time we lived in the Big Bend (Alpine, TX) it was a 7-hour drive to get there, and a time change that was a disadvantage on the return home. We did not do too much caving in the winter. So it's not quite like a motel or even a caver flop-house. If you wanted to come up for a couple of months, we could figure out what the current situation is with the cabin (I have not been there for about 4 years - and I know it is empty and shut down, without heat, water, or power turned on). We would have to turn it back on and chase out the pack rats. I rented it for $250/month for the winter. So it is probably not a value for you. But thanks for the thought. Well, perhaps you could tie it in with Fort Stanton cave! The ski area does get a lot of folks from Mexico. Between the wealthy teen-agers from Mexico City and the indestructible cowboys from Houston and Ft. Worth all learning to ski, I've LOTS of stories. Despacio, por favor! (Woops! Too late! Bring the toboggan.) Dwight -- Original message -- On 7/15/07, Nico Escamilla pitboun...@gmail.com wrote: Rental property in Ruidoso eh? I've always wanted to go to Ruidoso and hit the slopes there, but something always comes up and end up not going, but I do hope to make it this year and of course I'd rather give my business to a fellow caver than to some uknown (yeah yeah, we dont know eachother but hey we're cavers!) if the prices are reasonable enough. Do you have a website or something where I can find info bout your property? My grandfather also owns some rental cabins down here in Mexico with lots of caves in the ranch.
