Death is pretty much waiting around any turn no matter where you 
are--car wrecks and cancer and meteor strikes.  Mexican banditos are 
no match for road rage pistoleros in Houston. I can't let the odd and 
unlikely chance of death by bandito interfer with my real and ongoing 
pursuit of life. I'll hand over my keys and credit cards, then ask 
them if they know of any caves in the area.


Running scarred of the unknown is an unwarranted and undignified 
activity; there is, however, no really workable substitute for using 
good judgement and being careful. Bad luck, on the other hand, can 
only be viewed as providential. Say your prayers.
