Think "Carlsbad", David. It's probably a shorter drive for you and access to CaCa is $6 for three days.
Unlimited visits the whole time. Plus, the Living Desert Zoo is pretty cool. If CaCa doesn't hook your wife and kids on caving, nothing will. They have a lot of off-trail Ranger led tours, but your kiddos may be too young. Check out their website and sign up early. It had that effect on me when I was a wee little lad of 10 from Iowa on vacation with his parents. Now, look what they've done! Have a good weekend and vacation, nevertheless. I really enjoy going to them, and have been to most of the last 5 of them and a few others. I am probably going to look for an inexpensive shorter road-trip that I can take the family on. One of my possible destinations is Alabaster Caverns in Oklahoma. I believe that is a cave that I could easily take my toddler daughter thru. It is about 10 hours from my house, so it is something we could do on a 3 or 4 day weekend, stopping along the way to enjoy the road-trip and eat at various interesting places.
