The summer season provides a cornucopia of delicious vegetables,
fruits and herbs. Preparing meals during this wonderful season
presents boundless opportunities to prepare easily digestible
food. This is particularly important to those who suffer from
acid reflux.

The tomato, which many consider the quintessential fruit of
summer, has long been given a bad rap. Thought of as acidic in
nature, many people who experience acid reflux shun the tomato
like the plague. When tomatoes are slowly over cooked to produce
a thick sauce they do become extremely acidic. When served raw in
their natural state tomatoes, however, are sweet and alkaline.

My all time favorite tomato recipe is quite simple and easy to
prepare. Made with slices of tomato, fresh mozzarella and basil,
it is better known in Italy as Caprese Salad (in the style of
Capri). It is the starter listed below for my favorite summer
meal.

Cooking outdoors is an American summer tradition. It is
liberating to get out of the kitchen to cook and the clean up is
much easier. My favorite main dish of summer is chicken. I buy a
natural bird to start with. I then butterfly it by cutting
close to the backbone from tail to neck, flip it over and press
it down, dry it with paper towels and season it. This makes a
much nicer presentation than just grilling loose pieces of
chicken.

I live in a log cabin on a mountain top in rural Pennsylvania.
Because we have so many bear and other creatures who share our
love of outdoor cooking, we confine those activities to the deck
using a Weber gas grill with a cover. In order to create that
real woodsy flavor of a traditional barbeque, we use one of those
metal wood chip boxes filled with oak, mesquite or hickory. The
oak is free. Twigs and branches fall out of the trees in the back
yard. I like to mix these woods together to produce a unique
smoke flavor. I call this cooking technique grill-a-quing,
because you are combining grilling with barbequing and smoking.

Of course, the chicken can be cooked in the traditional manner
over coals or wood. The secret is to start off with high heat in
order to seal the bird. When the fat starts to flare up, the heat
must be brought down to low. The objective it to keep the juices
in while making the skin very crisp. This is more easily
controlled when using a gas grill with a cover.

A three and one half to four pounder can require up to two

Acid Reflux and the Type A Personality

Reflux Gone Forever
http://www.refluxgoneforever.com

Stress is one of the most common contributors to acid reflux. Of
all the personality types, the type A personality is the most
plagued by stress.

Contrary to common opinion these people are not always men. Many
women have this type of personality, as well. They are extremely
competitive, work obsessed, impatient, picky and even sometimes
hostile. They simply do not know how to relax. They are often so
time oriented and in such a rush that punctuality becomes an
obsession. I have known both men and women of this type who threw
fits when someone was a few minutes late for an appointment.

Often because of the pressure at work to produce, stress levels
run very high. Failure of any kind which threatens the goals,
self image or ego of this type personality can cause certain
hormones like adrenalin and cortisol to be released. This causes
the heart rate to speed up, breathing to become rapid and the
digestive system to come to a screeching halt.

The constant stress experienced by these personality types often
leads to medical problems such as heart disease, hypertension
and, yes, acid reflux. When stress causes hormone levels to rise,
this is called the fight or flight response. The digestion of
food requires a tremendous amount of energy. In order for the
body to deal with perceived emergencies, it conserves this energy
by shutting down the digestive system. The stomach is made to
operate on less oxygen, which leads to poor digestion and a build
up of excess acid. This, of course, causes acid reflux.

The type A person often smokes and drinks too much coffee and
alcohol in order to find relief from stress and worry. They often
eat comfort food and fast food that contain a tremendous amount
of fat which exacerbates indigestion.

Since it is difficult to change a personality type, one has to
learn how to deal with stress so that it can cause less physical
harm. Learning to relax is essential to this effort.

Whether you are an A type personality who suffers from chronic
acid reflux caused by stress, or you are just someone who
experiences occasional acid reflux brought on by bouts of stress,
consider the following:

 * Exercise your way to peace of mind. Everyone knows that
exercise is essential for good health. Besides the physical
benefits it is also an important way to relieve stress. Who has
time to think about problems when you're about to win a tennis
match

REFLUX GONE FOREVER, Natural Acid Reflux Remedies
http://www.refluxgoneforever.com/

The medical community would have you believe that only drugs can
treat and heal acid reflux disease. This is simply not true -
there are natural ways to heal this condition. PPI drugs
(proton pump inhibitors), like Nexium, Prilosec, Prevacid and
Protonix should only be be taken for eight weeks, at most.
Doctors are aware of this, but most patients continue to take
these drugs on a permanent basis. Unfortunately, there are no
studies determining what the long term effects of these drugs are
on the human body.

PPI drugs actually shut down the pumps that produce the stomach
acid necessary to digest food. You have to wonder how the human
body digests and assimilates food properly without stomach acid.
How does a body remain healthy without the proper digestion of
food? Is this natural?

I used to suffer from acute acid reflux. I was addicted to a PPI
drug... that certain colored pill. After several years of
taking this drug, my condition became worse and I was told to
double the dose. I began to feel sluggish and tired. My vision
suffered and my blood pressure went off the charts. I realized
that these were probably side effects of the PPI drug. I did
some research and found that there were hundreds of possible
harmful side effects, including: Headache, diarrhea, nausea,
abdominal pain, dry mouth, aggravated constipation, enlarged
abdomen, back pain, chest pain, anemia, allergic reaction,
hypertension, tachycardia, goiter, tinnitus, facial edema,
conjunctivitis, vision abnormal, aggravated depression,
dizziness, hypertonia, nervousness, cystitis, insomnia, migraine,
anorexia, acne, dermatitis, glycosuria, hyperuricemia,
hyponatremia, arthritis aggravated, tongue edema, ulcerative
stomatitis, impotence, insomnia, to name a few.

I mean, who needs tongue edema, impotence or aggravated
constipation? Good God! I knew that I had to stop taking this
drug! But when I tried, the acid pumps, which had been shut off
for so long, went wild and produced more acid than ever before. I
have never suffered so much in my lifeeven drinking water
gave me severe indigestion. My doctor suggested that I get back
on the pill. He had no other advice to offer.

I became determined to beat this dreadful condition - beat the
curse of the big drug companies! I really had no choice,
because medical science, apparently, had no solution for my
problem. I began extensive research on the subject and found out
some very interesting things.

Acid reflux is big business. It's a drug company's dream come
true. Millions of Americans suffer from acid reflux. Many
millions more experience the pain

Have you ever wondered what really causes digestive problems? Did
you know that most digestive disorders are not diseases at all,
but conditions which can be completely cured by using natural
techniques and remedies?

The medical community would have you believe that only
prescription drugs can relieve the symptoms of indigestion. This
is simply not the case. Antacids are, at best, a temporary fix
and they are loaded with harmful ingredients such as sodium and
aluminum. PPI drugs should only be used for eight weeks, at most.
Then what are you to do? These drugs only mask and hide the
symptoms and have hundreds of harmful side effects. They do not
heal the condition! They do not make you well! They only make the
drug makers wealthier at your expense!

I used to suffer from acute GERD. I was addicted to a PPI

that there were hundreds of possible side effects. I was shocked
and frightened at what I found! I was harming my body and I
wanted to stop taking this drug! But when I tried to stop the
PPI, he acid pumps, which had been shut off, went wild and
produced more acid than ever before.

I can't tell you how much I suffered. My esophagus was
constantly burning and l feared that I would permanently damage
myself. I couldn't sleep at night. I was afraid to eat or drink
anything but water! I was afraid to go out to dinner. I became a
recluse. I began to loose my friends. They didn't understand my
problem. Friends would call and say, Let's go out for Mexican,
barbeque or pizza. Of course, I couldn't. I loved to eat hot
chili sprinkled with raw onions and jack cheese, but it was now
my worst nightmare. My life had become unbearable!

I was determined to beat this sickness! My doctor couldn't help
me -no one could tell me what to do. I had to heal myself. I
became completely dedicated to finding the answers. I studied and
researched. I wanted to find naturopathic treatments as opposed
to drugs, so I searched high and low for natural remedies that
might actually cure acid reflux. I tried every possible treatment
that exists, short of voodoo.

I found that the answers to the acid reflux problem are really
quite simple. With a few changes in lifestyle and with the help

Reflux Gone Forever
http://www.refluxgoneforever.com

There are many people who suffer from acid reflux and want to get
off the proton pump inhibitor drugs (PPI drugs). The main action
of this group of pharmaceuticals is the long acting reduction of
gastric acid production. These include Prevacid, Prilosec, Nexium
and Protonix.

These drugs are convenient to use and can be initially useful,
but many find that the side effects outweigh the benefits. When
it comes to quitting them, one will find that it is not so easy.

PPI drugs are supposed to be used for a restricted period of
time, however most patients continue their use indefinitely. Not
only do patients abuse these drugs, but also the physicians who
prescribe them. Unfortunately, there are no studies regarding the
effects of the long term use of these drugs. One has to question
whether the prolonged use of PPI drugs is really safe.

We do know that by reducing the production of stomach acid, the
proper digestion and assimilation of food is restricted. Are
chronic users of these drugs suffering from a form of
malnutrition? It is important to keep in mind that stomach acid
also keeps potentially dangerous intestinal bacteria in check. So
what may seem to be acid reflux utopia, in reality may be acid
reflux hell.

When one stops these drugs, after prolonged use, the acid pumps
turn on again and come back with a vengeance producing more acid
than they did before. This is referred to as acid reflux
rebound. This is often such a terrible and frightening
experience that most people become quickly discouraged and
immediately get back on the drugs. This catch 22 situation has
proven to be a virtual gold mine for the pharmaceutical
companies, who make billions of dollars in profits each year.

It is a horrible position to be in. You know you want to quite
these drugs. They stop working and you are instructed to double
the dose. You make an effort to stop, but it all backfires on
you. Your throat burns like its on fire and your doctor tells you
that if you don't take the drugs you may develop esophageal
cancer. Who wouldn't be frightened?

Now for the good news; there are nonpharmaceutical things that
one can do to survive acid reflux rebound and get back on the
right track.

At this point there is most likely damage to the esophagus. One
cannot hope to improve until the esophagus is well

Acid Reflux Recovery - Simple and Easy!

Article Description:

Acid reflux is a condition that plagues millions of people
worldwide. It is caused by stomach acid splashing up into the
esophagus. The lower esophageal sphincter (LES) is a ring-like
valve at the bottom of the esophagus. It opens to allow food to
enter the stomach and then closes to keep it there. When the LES
becomes damaged and, or relaxed, stomach fluids are refluxed up
into the esophagus and throat.

REFLUX GONE FOREVER, Natural Acid Reflux Remedies
http://www.refluxgoneforever.com

Acid reflux is a condition that plagues millions of people
worldwide. It is caused by stomach acid splashing up into the
esophagus. The lower esophageal sphincter (LES) is a ring-like
valve at the bottom of the esophagus. It opens to allow food to
enter the stomach and then closes to keep it there. When the LES
becomes damaged and, or relaxed, stomach fluids are refluxed up
into the esophagus and throat. The hydrochloric acid in this
fluid has been compared to the corrosive acid in a common car
battery.

It is important to remember why this condition usually exists in
the first place. In most cases it is due to a damaged esophagus
and LES. These can easily be scratched by eating foods with
jagged edges like corn chips or crackers. Even crusty bread
which has not been chewed properly can cause this type of damage.
These little lacerations can then be irritated by acidic foods
which are spicy or fried. Before you know it, you have a full
fledged case of acid reflux. Once this cycle begins, it is not
that easy to stop.

Let the esophagus heal by not eating the same foods in the same
manner that caused the damage in the first place. Losing
weight, exercising, chewing properly, drinking sufficient amounts
of water and eating in a pleasant atmosphere are all simple
things that anyone can do to improve this condition.

There are also many natural ingredients found in any grocery
market or health food store, which can help during the acid
reflux recovery period. Herbs, like slippery elm and marshmallow
have wonderful healing properties. Aloe vera juice, licorice and
natural honey can sooth the esophagus and assist in the healing
process.

By eating dinner at least three hours before retiring, one can
drastically reduce the chances of acid reflux. Chewing gum
between meals actually reduces stomach acid. Saliva is extremely
alkaline in nature and chewing stimulates its production causing
the system to be more alkaline.

Eat smaller, more frequent meals. Forget the Three Big Meals
we have been taught to indulge in. Try eating four or five
little meals each day. Start the day with Kukicha Twig tea
instead of acidic coffee. This tea has been used for hundreds of
years to make the body more alkaline. For breakfast, banish that
cereal and instead eat fruit, like bananas and melons

13,000 people are diagnosed with esophageal cancer each year. At
least 12,000 people die from it. The overall survival rate is
very poor. Acid reflux is the greatest known risk factor for
developing Barrett's Esophagus, which is the precursor of
esophageal cancer. Medical science has not found a cure. Could

Could A Supplement Called MSM Be The Answer?

Acid reflux or gerd (gastroesophageal reflux disease) is a
condition in which fluid splashes up from the stomach into the
esophagus. This fluid contains mostly acid with some pepsin and
bile. All three of these fluids are potentially dangerous to the
sensitive esophageal tissue, with acid being the most harmful.
This refluxed fluid can inflame and damage the lining of the
esophagus (esophagitis). If this condition is allowed to become
chronic, it can in time develop into Barrett's esophagus, which
is the precursor of esophageal cancer.

Over 15 million Americans experience acid reflux daily. People
at all ages are susceptible to this condition. Older people who
suffer from acid reflux tend to be more seriously affected than
younger people. 13,000 people are diagnosed with esophageal
cancer each year. At least 12,000 people die from it. The
overall survival rate is very poor. Acid reflux is the greatest
known risk factor for developing Barrett's Esophagus, which can
become esophageal cancer.

Barrett's esophagus occurs when chronic acid reflux or
esophagitis is not controlled. Through constant inflammation and
damage, the normal cells that line the esophagus called squamous
cells turn into specialized columnar cells. Columnar cells are
not normally found in human beings and can become cancerous.

Although this can happen to anyone, it usually occurs in people
over forty who have had regular bouts of heartburn for more than
five years. Some of the symptoms are difficulty in swallowing
and being awakened in the night by the pain of heartburn. Some
people have no symptoms at all.

Scar tissue can develop from the constant attack of acid on the
tender lining of the esophagus. The tissue can become thickened
and hard, making the esophagus narrower. This can make it
difficult to swallow food or even water.

I am a firm believer in natural cures versus conventional
medicine. When I go to a doctor it is for diagnostic purposes
only. Then, instead of subjecting myself to a barrage of harmful
pills and painful procedures, I attempt to cure the condition
myself by using alternative methods. I have found that MSM
(methylsulfonylmethane) has the ability to soften scar tissue,
making it flexible and permeable. I believe that by taking MSM
on a regular basis, one can possibly avoid the severe problems

Acupressure is acupuncture without the use of needles. By
applying pressure to the acupoints prescribed by ancient Chinese
medicine, specific organs and areas of the body may be
successfully treated. With this science, the energy of the
meridian system called Yin, Yang and Qi is brought into
alignment, allowing the body to heal itself.

Traditional Chinese acupuncture has been used to treat digestive
disorders for over two thousand years. Recent studies suggest
that acupuncture, acupressure and electrical acupoint stimulation
applied to Pericardium 6 (P6) reduce relaxations of the lower
esophageal sphincter (LES). Relaxation of the LES is the major
cause of acid reflux. One study with electrical acupoint
stimulation showed a 40% reduction of these LES relaxations in
most of the cases studied. This is an astounding claim and could
be the beginning of one of the most important discoveries ever
made for the treatment of acid reflux.

What is P6? P6, also called Neiguan, is an acupoint located on
the underside of the wrist between 2 tendons. If you hold out
your hand and bend it toward you, P6 is located in the middle of
the wrist approximately two fingerwidths from the crease where
the hand and arm meet.

What is the LES? The lower esophageal sphincter is a muscular
valve located between the esophagus and the stomach, which opens
to allow food and liquids into the stomach. It is supposed to
close tight to prevent gastric fluids from coming back up into
the esophagus. When it becomes relaxed, you have acid reflux.
Many things can cause the LES to relax; acidic foods, carbonated
beverages, alcohol, tobacco, chocolate and stress, to name a
few.

Acupressure to the P6 has been employed for years to relieve
nausea and vomiting. Recently it has been used to treat
traveler's motion and sea sickness, morning sickness in pregnant
women and post operative nausea. Acupressure wrist bands, also
called sea bands, are now being used for this purpose. The
wrist band fits snugly on the wrist and has a small plastic
button which applies pressure to the P6. It is now believed that
these same wrist bands may reduce acid reflux.

You can also treat yourself without the use of wrist bands by
using the fingers. Keep in mind that when applying pressure to
the P6, the feeling should be a slight numbness, never a sharp
pain. All acupoints are normally beside and in between bones,
ligaments and tendons

One
cannot hope to improve until the esophagus is well again

Gerd (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) is an ugly sounding word
which has become the popular standard for describing acid reflux
disease. A simple definition for Gerd would be the reflux or
splashing up of digestive fluids from the stomach into the
esophagus.

The term Gerd has only been used for about twenty years. The
symptoms are heartburn, chest pain, regurgitation of gastric
juices and difficulty swallowing. Other problems can be a lack
of sleep, nausea, labored breathing and abdominal pain.

Gerd can become a very serious life threatening matter. When
left unchecked this condition can develop into Barrett(tm)s
Esophagus, which is a precursor to esophageal cancer.

The human body was designed to keep gastric acid in the stomach
where it belongs. Its function is to sterilize and digest what
we eat and drink. Stomach acid is mainly composed of
hydrochloric acid which is a very powerful corrosive agent.

The lower esophageal sphincter (LES) is a muscular valve at the
bottom of the esophagus which allows ingested material to move
down into the stomach. It is designed to close and keep this
material from coming back up. Most people who experience Gerd do
so because the LES becomes relaxed and malfunctions, allowing
acid to reflux. Where the stomach has an acid proof lining the
esophagus does not and is easily damaged by stomach acid.

Why the world is being plagued by this phenomenon is quite a
mystery, but it is estimated that over 300 million people
worldwide suffer from the symptoms of this disorder. The medical
community relies mainly on pharmaceutical drugs to treat these
symptoms. Unfortunately, most doctors have no knowledge of
nutrition or alternative natural therapy. In most cases, their
job is to treat the symptoms of acid reflux, not to cure the
disease.

Common sense would dictate that Gerd has everything to do with
what we eat and drink. It is, however, more complicated than
that. It has a lot to do with how we eat and drink, as well.
Most of us know that there are certain foods that we find
difficult, as individuals, to digest. Everyone is different. We
can all react differently to the same food or beverage. Some
people cannot easily digest tomato sauce while others have no
problem with it. Avoiding so called trigger foods is an
important first step in overcoming Gerd.

Eating on the run usually means eating unhealthy food too
quickly. Not chewing properly is a major contributor to acid
indigestion. We live in a culture where most

Recent statistics from the US Department of Health and Human
Services suggest that over seven million people suffer from
severe acid reflux in the U.S. alone. It is estimated that over
fifteen million Americans suffer from chronic heartburn, as
well.

The incidence of acid reflux is greater in people over the age of
forty, but it can affect anyone, even infants. Acid reflux
affects people of every age, socioeconomic class and race.

Simply put, acid reflux occurs when stomach acid splashes up
through the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) into the esophagus
and throat. This reflux of acid can be the result of many things
including diet, alcohol consumption, smoking, hiatal hernia,
stress and even pregnancy. When this refluxed acid hits the
tender lining of the esophagus, it causes a painful burning
sensation in the chest and, or throat. Other symptoms include
difficulty in swallowing (dysphagia), hoarseness, asthma and
dental erosion.

If left untreated, this condition can evolve into more severe and
life threatening diseases like Barrett(tm)s Esophagus, which is
a precursor of esophageal cancer. In an attempt to avoid the
more serious consequences of acid reflux, people are resorting
more and more to pharmaceutical drugs.

There are three classifications of drugs which treat acid reflux.
The first of these are antacids, which neutralize the acid in
your stomach and are at best only a temporary fix. They are
loaded with harmful ingredients such as sodium and aluminum. The
next group of drugs is called H2 Blockers. They reduce the
amount of acid that the stomach produces and provide longer
lasting relief than antacids. Finally there are the PPI drugs
(proton pump inhibitors), which shut off the proton pumps in the
stomach that manufacture hydrochloric acid.

PPI drugs should only be used for eight weeks, at most. It says
so right on the label. Doctors certainly know this but allow if
not encourage most patients to continue taking these drugs on a
permanent basis.

PPI drugs actually shut down the pumps that produce the stomach
acid necessary to digest and assimilate food. This is an
essential function of our physical anatomy. Another point of
concern is that stomach acid keeps very dangerous bacteria, which
live in the stomach and intestines, in check.

There are, unfortunately, no studies that can determine the long
term effects of these drugs. We do, however, know what the
potential harmful side effects

REFLUX GONE FOREVER, Natural Acid Reflux Remedies
http://www.refluxgoneforever.com

Although it has not been proven scientifically, many people
believe that stress is a major contributor to acid reflux
disease.

Physiologically, stress can cause the digestive system to come to
a screeching halt. Food that should be moving along will linger
and magnify the effects of acid reflux. Under stress the body
sends energy to the muscles, via the blood stream, to help the
body cope with a stressful situation. This means that less blood,
or energy, is flowing to the digestive system. When digestion is
slowed down in this manner, undigested food and gastric juices
remain in the stomach much longer enhancing the occurrence of
acid reflux.

Stress can also cause people to experience changes in behavior
like the immoderate consumption of alcohol and so called
comfort foods. It can also lead to late night binging and
excessive smoking. All of these can trigger the symptoms of acid
reflux by producing excessive acid in the stomach and relaxing
the Lower Esophageal sphincter or (LES). When the LES is relaxed,
stomach acid can splash up from the stomach into the esophagus,
causing the pain of heartburn.

The fight or flight syndrome caused by stress can cause the
body to tense up, delivering most of its energy to the heart,
lungs and muscles. This intensifies hyperacidity, as the stomach
is robbed of oxygen and enzymes necessary for proper digestion.

About half of the people who suffer from heartburn attribute it
to stress. Whether stress is related to unpleasant work
situations, emotional disorders, money problems, family strife or
social conflicts, there are many things which can be done to
restore the needed harmony in one's life.
Whether you suffer from chronic acid reflux and find that stress
exacerbates the condition, or you experience occasional acid
reflux brought on by bouts of stress, consider the following:

 * Take the pressure off yourself - Lining up too many goals to
be accomplished in too short a period of time can be very
stressful. Do one thing at a time. Learn to relax and learn to
say no when others become too demanding. Set your priorities
straight and make lists that you can stick to. Go easy on
yourself.

 * Take your mind off of you - Loosing your mind is not the
worst thing you can do. Meditation, Tai Chi, Hatha Yoga, Chi Gong
and self-hypnotism are all great ways to relieve stress. Focusing
on a demanding activity will take your mind off what is causing
the stress. Not thinking about yourself can be very beneficial.
These arts can also be applied to enhance life with positive
improvement.

 * Exercise your way to peace of mind - Everyone knows that
exercise is essential for good health

The Acid Reflux Blues – An Easy Antidote!

REFLUX GONE FOREVER, Natural Acid Reflux Remedies
http://www.refluxgoneforever.com

The real antidote to acid reflux, gerd, heartburn and indigestion
has to do with what we eat, how we eat, where we eat and when we
eat. This may sound a little too simple, but it is not.
Everyone is different; therefore people have to approach eating
in different ways.

There are many foods and beverages which trigger heartburn. Not
all of these affect everyone in the same manner. For instance, I
have difficulty digesting raw bell peppers, but I know others who
cannot eat raw tomatoes, but have no trouble with raw bell
peppers. Ironically, I can eat fresh raw tomatoes all day long
and not have gerd. So anyone who makes blanket statements
regarding this subject has got it all wrong.

Through trial and error, we all discover what we can and cannot
digest with ease. There are, however, some foods that cause
problems for anyone who is susceptible to acid reflux. Any food
or drink that causes the LES (lower esophageal sphincter) to
relax should be consumed in strict moderation. The LES is a ring
of fibrous muscle which separates the esophagus and the stomach.
When this muscle relaxes, acid and pepsin can splash up from the
stomach into the esophagus and throat, thereby causing acid
reflux.

The hydrochloric acid in the stomach is very powerful. It has
been compared to the acid in a car battery, but it is a necessary
part of our physical anatomy. It constitutes the initial stage
of the digestive process. It not only breaks down the food we
eat but keeps potentially dangerous bacteria which live in the
digestive tract in check. This is the reason that drugs which
stop the acid pumps from functioning are potentially dangerous.
These drugs are called proton pump inhibitors (PPI drugs). They
interfere with the digestion and assimilation of food and allow
the overgrowth of bacteria.

Eating jagged foods like crackers or corn chips can cause little
lacerations to develop in the esophagus and LES. Then later
consuming acidic foods like spicy over cooked tomato sauce can
exacerbate the problem. This scenario is typical of why many
people have acid reflux to begin with. It can easily be
avoided.

Foods and beverages, like chocolate, caffeine, fried foods,
tomato products and alcohol, can cause the LES to relax and
should be avoided until the esophagus has had time to heal.

How and where we eat is very important, as well. Chewing food
properly is essential to correct digestion. Saliva in the mouth
is actually very alkaline in nature

As the leaves start to turn to fall colors and in the evenings we
are tempted to sit by a warm fire, hearty food comes to mind.
The fall and winter bring a host of root vegetables, squashes
greens and fruit from which hearty meals can be easily made. The
challenge is to keep these dishes healthy - that means keeping
them as alkaline as possible.

When attempting to reverse the symptoms of acid reflux, diet is
probably the most important consideration. That old cliché, You
are what you eat, has never been more true. If you eat food and
drink beverages which are acidic in nature, then it follows, that
you will be acidic in nature, as well. If you eat a diet which
mainly consists of so called convenience food, you don't stand
a chance of being alkaline.

In order to defeat the acid reflux condition, one must strive to
correct the pH factor of the body. 7.5 pH is the ideal alkaline
body level. You can test the pH level of your saliva with pH
paper, which can be purchased at any pharmacy. Some medical
authorities claim that all illness, including cancer, cannot
exist in an alkaline environment. If that is true, it is
certainly food for thought!

It is important to remember that the acid reflux condition could
not perpetuate itself without a damaged esophagus. In order to
heal this affliction, the esophagus must be allowed to repair.
This can be accomplished by eliminating food and drink that are
irritants and, or acidic. Avoiding anything which relaxes the
LES (lower esophageal sphincter) is another important
consideration. The LES is the muscular valve which separates the
esophagus and the stomach. It is when this valve relaxes, that
acid and pepsin splash up from the stomach into the esophagus and
throat, causing acid reflux.

The hydrochloric acid in the stomach has been compared in
strength, to the acid in a car battery. With acid reflux, the
constant assault of acid causes little lacerations to develop on
the lining of the esophagus. Until these lacerations have had a
chance to heal, spicy foods, such as acidic tomato products, hot
peppers, raw garlic and raw onions should also be eliminated from
the diet. They just further irritate

It would be such a wonderfully nourishing experience to hold her
new born child while suckling her breast. What normal mother has
not enjoyed these fantasies about child birth? She was so young
and delicate and naive.

I had been a most difficult birth. She, of course, had wanted to
deliver me in the most natural way, but the doctors had to resort
to cesarean section. She was in a much weakened condition when
we left the hospital.

The very first time that she breast fed me, I screamed with great
pain, pursed my little red face and spewed sour milk all over the
room, rejecting that precious natural gift of love. She tried
over and over again to feed me. I was an eight pound baby boy
and was ravenously hungry. She was all alone and desperately
afraid for my well being. WW2 was just ending and my father, who
was in the Coast Guard, was stationed five hundred miles away, in
Florida.

Lucky for both of us, my great uncle Everett was a pediatrician.
He knew exactly what to do. He instructed my mother how to
correctly prepare Cream of Wheat for a new born child. It had to
be cooked in a double boiler for at least two hours in order for
it to be soft enough for an infant to digest. My mother said
that when she fed me that Cream of Wheat, I smiled for the very
first time.

I did grow out of my acid reflux condition. By the age of two, I
had no symptoms at all. In fact, I was gerd free for more than
thirty years. But something changed and I started gradually
suffering from indigestion again. It happened to me after a
particularly stressful period in my life. I had become an
accomplished cook and consequently I was eating food that was far
too rich with fat. I had also become somewhat of a wine
aficionado, as well. The combination of the stress, food and
wine simply did me in.

At first, I would drink baking soda dissolved in water and try to
regurgitate, when heartburn became overwhelming. After resorting
to this too many times, I realized that I had developed a hiatal
hernia. This, of course, compounded the situation. My doctor
scolded me and prescribed antacids. Little did I know at the
time

Many people suffer daily from the effects of acid reflux, to one
degree or another. Unfortunately, the constant strain of this
condition on the body can lead to premature aging.

The reflux of stomach gas and fluids during the night, even on a
modest level, inhibit proper sleep patterns. It is a known fact
that sleep is the most important factor affecting the aging
process. If you do not get enough quality sleep at the r.e.m.
level, you face each day with low energy, which can be described
as a form of chronic fatigue. This syndrome will eventually drag
you down and make you feel and look older than you should. It
may even shorten your life. Many people are not even aware that
they suffer from this condition.

Acid reflux or gerd (gastroesophageal reflux disease) occurs when
the LES (lower esophageal sphincter) relaxes and allows gas and
fluids from the stomach to move upward into the esophagus. The
LES is a ringed muscle at the bottom of the esophagus. It opens
in order to allow food to enter the stomach, and then closes in
order to keep the digestive fluids where they belong. It is when
this muscle is too relaxed or damaged, that the contents of the
stomach can escape up into the esophagus thereby causing acid
reflux.

The medical community would have us to believe that drugs are the
only answer to the problem of gerd. Of course this is not true.
Antacids are, at best, a temporary fix and are loaded with
harmful ingredients such as sodium and aluminum. PPI drugs
(proton pump inhibitors) like Nexium and Prilosec should only be
used for eight weeks, at most. It says so right on the label.
Furthermore, these drugs only mask and hide the symptoms and they
have hundreds of harmful side effects.

The acid reflux condition can be the result of poor eating habits
or even the aging process itself. We all know that certain foods
can trigger indigestion; tomato sauce, raw garlic and onions,
chocolate, coffee and alcohol. The ingestion of these foods can
make you acidic in nature, resulting in acid reflux. Yet most of
us can't resist one or more of these items on a daily basis.
Besides eliminating trigger foods from our diets, there are
many natural herbs and supplements that can be helpful in staving
off this malady.

Chronic indigestion can also be caused by a lack of hydrochloric
acid. Some people produce insufficient amounts of stomach acid
as they grow older. Besides the proper digestion of food,
hydrochloric acid is necessary to keep harmful bacteria, which
are found in the digestive track, in check. Without

For breakfast, banish that
cereal and instead eat fruit, like bananas and melons. Have

The Natural Approach for Healing Acid Reflux Disease

REFLUX GONE FOREVER, Natural Acid Reflux Remedies
http://www.refluxgoneforever.com

The medical community believes that the use of prescription drugs
is the only valid approach in treating the symptoms of
indigestion. This, of course, is not the truth. Drugs are only
good for masking the symptoms of any condition, not for curing
that condition. If the Pharmaceutical companies created drugs
that healed disease, they would soon lose a lot of repeat
customers.

There are many natural remedies and techniques for treating the
symptoms of acid reflux. The major difference is that this
natural approach has no harmful side effects and can actually
cure the condition. It is also much less expensive for the
consumer.

Why is the medical community so opposed to natural therapy in
favor of prescription drugs? The answer is quite evident when
you consider the amount of money at stake. The sales of acid
reflux prescription drugs constitute a multi-billion dollar a
year industry. Allopathic medicine, pharmaceutical companies,
hospitals and insurance companies are all in league to do one
thing - make money. They do this largely at our expense.

There are many natural ingredients found in grocery markets and
health stores, which can help during the acid reflux recovery
period. Herbs, such as marshmallow and slippery elm have
wonderful healing properties. Licorice, natural honey and aloe
vera juice can sooth the esophagus and assist in the healing
process.

Chewing gum between meals actually reduces stomach acid. Saliva
is quite alkaline in nature. Chewing produces saliva, thereby
making the stomach less acidic. By eating dinner at least three
hours before retiring, one can drastically reduce the chances of
suffering from acid reflux during the night.

Eating smaller, more frequent meals is also quite helpful. One
should try to eat four or five little meals each day. Instead of
coffee in the morning, start the day with Kukicha Twig tea, and
then eat fruit, like bananas and melons for breakfast. During
the day have several snacks of walnuts, almonds and more fruit.
For lunch eat a salad, made with grilled chicken breasts, or
tofu, mixed with hearts of romaine, tossed with a light lemon and
chive vinaigrette.

It is essential to keep the food that you eat as alkaline as
possible. Learn to cook meals that are easy to digest and have
low acidity. Food like pasta primavera, baked chicken breasts on
mushroom caps and sautéed white fish with mashed potatoes are all
easy to prepare and delicious. Try to avoid those foods which
