See, I told ya, Bush isn't the only one...

2003-02-20 Thread Larry Tolson

Larry Elder (back to
story)
February 20, 2003
When Clinton supported regime change
The opponents of the Bush
administration's possible military action against Iraq make the following
arguments: "He's simply trying to finish the job his father started"; "No blood
for oil"; "Iraq poses no imminent threat"; "Wars kill innocent women and
children"; "Allow the United Nations inspections to proceed"; "Containment
works"; "Avoid unilateralism, and proceed only with the United Nation's
approval"; and the all-encompassing "No smoking gun exists demonstrating that
Saddam possesses weapons of mass destruction."
But Bill Clinton, four years ago, took to the airwaves and explained his
authorization of non-U.N.-approved missile strikes against Iraq, using the very
same arguments now advanced by President Bush. Yet the silence was deafening.
Clinton, Dec. 19, 1998: "Earlier today, I ordered America's armed forces to
strike military and security targets in Iraq. . . . Their mission is to attack
Iraq's nuclear, chemical and biological weapons programs and its military
capacity to threaten its neighbors. . . . Saddam Hussein must not be allowed to
threaten his neighbors or the world with nuclear arms, poison gas or biological
weapons."
George W. Bush, Jan. 28, 2003: "Year after year, Saddam Hussein has gone to
elaborate lengths, spent enormous sums, taken great risks, to build and keep
weapons of mass destruction. But why? The only possible explanation, the only
possible use he could have for those weapons is to dominate, intimidate or
attack. With nuclear arms or a full arsenal of chemical and biological weapons,
Saddam Hussein could resume his ambitions of conquest in the Middle East and
create deadly havoc in that region."
Clinton: "Six weeks ago, Saddam Hussein announced that he would no longer
cooperate with the United Nations weapons inspectors called UNSCOM. . . . Their
job is to oversee the elimination of Iraq's capability to retain, create and use
weapons of mass destruction, and to verify that Iraq does not attempt to rebuild
that capability. . . . Iraq has failed to turn over virtually all the documents
requested by the inspectors. Indeed, we know that Iraq ordered the destruction
of weapons-related documents in anticipation of an UNSCOM inspection."
Bush: "The dictator of Iraq is not disarming. To the contrary, he is
deceiving. From intelligence sources, we know for instance, that thousands of
Iraqi security personnel are at work hiding documents and materials from the
U.N. inspectors, sanitizing inspection sites, and monitoring the inspectors
themselves."
Clinton: "Other countries possess weapons of mass destruction and ballistic
missiles. With Saddam, there is one big difference: He has used them. Not once,
but repeatedly. Unleashing chemical weapons against Iranian troops during a
decade-long war. Not only against soldiers, but against civilians, firing Scud
missiles at the citizens of Israel, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Iran. And not only
against a foreign enemy, but even against his own people, gassing Kurdish
civilians in Northern Iraq. . . . I have no doubt today, that left unchecked,
Saddam Hussein will use these terrible weapons again."
Bush: "Some have said we must not act until the threat is imminent. Since
when have terrorists and tyrants announced their intentions, politely putting us
on notice before they strike? If this threat is permitted to fully and suddenly
emerge, all actions, all words and all recriminations would come too late.
Trusting in the sanity and restraint of Saddam Hussein is not a strategy and it
is not an option. The dictator who is assembling the world's most dangerous
weapons has already used them on whole villages, leaving thousands of his own
citizens dead, blind or disfigured."
Clinton: "The decision to use force is never cost-free. Whenever American
forces are placed in harm's way, we risk the loss of life. And while our strikes
are focused on Iraq's military capabilities, there will be unintended Iraqi
casualties. . . . Heavy as they are, the costs of action must be weighed against
the price of inaction. If Saddam defies the world and we fail to respond, we
will face a far greater threat in the future. Saddam will strike again at his
neighbors. He will make war on his own people. . . . But once more, the United
States has proven that although we are never eager to use force, when we must
act in America's vital interests, we will do so."
Bush: "Sending Americans into battle is the most profound decision a
president can make. The technologies of war have changed, the risks and
suffering of war have not. For the brave Americans, this nation fights
reluctantly because we know the cost and we dread the days of mourning that
always come. We seek peace. We strive for peace. And sometimes, peace must be
defended. A future lived at the mercy of terrible threats is no peace at all. If
war is forced upon us, we

joke: Dubya's State of the Union Address

2003-02-20 Thread Rebekah
Here's another funny.

Reactions to Bush's State of the Union address, in
which he called Iraq,
Iran, and North Korea the 'Axis of Evil

ANGERED BY SNUBBING, LIBYA, CHINA SYRIA FORM AXIS OF
JUST AS EVIL

Cuba, Sudan, Serbia Form Axis of Somewhat Evil;
Other Nations Start Own Clubs

Beijing: Bitter after being snubbed for membership
in the Axis of Evil,
Libya, China, and Syria today announced they had
formed the Axis of Just as
Evil, which they said would be way eviler than that
stupid Iran-Iraq-North
Korea axis President Bush warned of in his State of
the Union address.

Axis of Evil members, however, immediately dismissed
the new axis as having,
for starters, a really dumb name. Right. They are
Just as Evil... in their
dreams! declared North Korean leader Kim Jong-il.
Everybody knows we're the best evils... best at
being evil... we're the
best.

Diplomats from Syria denied they were jealous over
being excluded, although
they conceded they did ask if they could join the
Axis of Evil.

They told us it was full, said Syrian President
Bashar al-Assad.

An Axis can't have more than three countries,
explained Iraqi President
Saddam Hussein. This is not my rule, it's
tradition. In World War II you had
Germany, Italy, and Japan in the evil Axis. So you
can only have three. And a
secret handshake. Ours is wicked cool.

International reaction to Bush's Axis of Evil
declaration was swift, as
within minutes, France
surrendered.

Elsewhere, peer-conscious nations rushed to gain
triumvirate status in what
became a game of geopolitical chairs.

Cuba, Sudan, and Serbia said they had formed the
Axis of Somewhat Evil,
forcing Somalia to join with Uganda and Myanmar in
the Axis of Occasionally
Evil, while Bulgaria, Indonesia and Russia
established the Axis of Not So
Much Evil Really As Just Generally Disagreeable.

With the criteria suddenly expanded and all the
desirable clubs filling up,
Sierra Leone, El Salvador, and Rwanda applied to be
called the Axis of
Countries That Aren't the Worst But Certainly Won't
Be Asked to Host the
Olympics; Canada, Mexico, and Australia formed the
Axis of Nations That Are
Actually Quite Nice But Secretly Have Nasty Thoughts
About America, while
Spain, Scotland, and New Zealand established the
Axis of Countries That Will
Allow Sheep to Wear Lipstick.

That's not a threat, really, just something we like
to do, said Scottish
Executive First Minister Jack McConnell.

While wondering if the other nations of the world
weren't perhaps making fun
of him, a cautious Bush granted approval for most
axes, although he rejected
the establishment of the Axis of Countries Whose
Names End in Guay,
accusing one of its members of filing a
false application. Officials from Paraguay, Uruguay,
and Chadguay denied the
charges.

Israel, meanwhile, insisted it didn't want to join
any Axis, but privately,
world leaders said that's only because no one asked
them.

FRIDAY
FEBRUARY 21 Joyce will be on the first hour of the COAST TO COAST SHOW WITH
GEORGE NOORY

listen and
learn whats new about the lastest press release below

GULF WAR VETERANS ASSOCIATION QUESTIONS WHO STARTED
THE OIL WELL FIRES IN KUWAIT.

For the past six years, the American Gulf War Veterans
Association have received numerous reports from veterans stating that US forces
were responsible for the setting of the oil well fires at the end of the Gulf
War. These testimonies are now
being taken very seriously in light of recent revelations of the events that
occurred during the first Gulf War.

Joyce Riley,
spokesperson for The American Gulf War Veterans Association is quoted as saying:
“There was intentional misinformation given to the American people to
generate support for Desert Storm often created by advertising agencies such as
Hill and Knowlton.”

* Revelations regarding the “Incubator story,” in which
Republican Guard were reported to have thrown babies out of their incubators
onto the cold floor turned out to be false and a “fraud on the American People.”
(S.R. 103-900).

* The St. Petersburg Times disproved the report of
satellite photos showing a thousand Iraqi tanks amassing on the Saudi
border.

* April Glaspie, US Ambassador, gave tacit approval to
Saddam Hussein to invade Iraq by saying, “We have no opinion on…your border
dispute with Kuwait.”

* John Shalikashvilli, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of
Staff and William Perry, Secretary of Defense wrote in a memo (obtained by the
AGWVA) on May 25, 1994, “There is no information, classified or unclassified
that indicates that chemical or biological weapons were used in the Persian
Gulf.” General Norman Schwartzkopf’s NBC (nuclear, biological and chemical) logs
(also obtained by the AGWVA) dated Feb. 27, 1991, and March 3, 1991, clearly
disprove the above statement.

One veteran has now stepped
forward and given a detailed account of how he and others in special teams,
moved forward of the front, (behind enemy lines ahead of US forces) and then set
charges on the well heads. “We were mustered into the briefing tent at which
point a gentleman whom I first had thought to be an American began to brief us
on the operation. I was concerned because he was not wearing a US uniform and
insignias.”

The information provided over a series of meetings with
this veteran corroborates reports from other veterans who are totally
unconnected with this individual. This testimony brings into serious question
the integrity of the US government, as it provided information to the American
public and military during the last Gulf War.

The American Gulf War Veterans Association is presently
dissenting on the war and has been joined by The British Gulf War Veterans and
Families Association. Riley states
that: “Not only is it our opinion that the Department of Defense has not
been forthcoming about the severity of our military’s illnesses, significant
concern is now being raised over the causation as
well.”

  Morewar scams
  in progress?
The United States and Great Britain,
fighting a losing battle against world opinion, have now announced that there
are three "mystery ships" winding around the world's oceans, not going
anywhere in particular, not using their radios, in other words, acting VERY
and conveniently suspicious. The US/UK have announced that they have
"intelligence" that these ships hold Saddam's arsenal of weapons of mass
destruction. This explains why the US and UK 'know' that Saddam has banned
weapons, even though the UN cannot find them. No support has been given for
this story. There are no photos of the ships, no indications of plans to board
and search them, and certainly nothing that links the ships and their contents
to Saddam. And, we have seen prior cases where ships full of weapons claimed
to belong to one group turned out to be a plant by another. Given that the US
supplied so much of Iraq's banned weapons in the first place, how hard would
it be to find some old cargo ships and load them up with identical munitions
  from US stockpiles?
The US and UK claim they are
afraid to stop and board these ships, because of the terrible environmental
damage that would result if the ship the US and UK "know" are carrying weapons
of mass destruction should be scuttled. Such concern for the environment is
touching, coming from the nations that have showered the Middle East with
depleted uranium weapons. But this claim does not withstand the smell test. If
indeed the entire US and UK Navy could be held off by having some Anthrax on
board a ship, every drug smuggler with a fast boat could make himself
instantly untouchable by carrying materials equally unfriendly to the
  environment.
2/20/03 The US navy is boarding an average of six
vessels a day as it steps up patrols in international waters searching for
Iraqi weapons rumored to have been hidden on ships or smuggled overseas.
  David Osler, industrial editor of
the maritime journal Lloyd's List, said: "It's becoming a bit of an
embarrassment to them - they haven't really found anything."

  The E-bomb
2/19/03 This appears to be a hoax. The
plans shown in this article will not work. The moment the bomb commences
detonation, by the article's own admission, the coil creating the magnetic
field shorts out. The speed at which electricity flows and induced magnetic
fields propagate is far greater than the force of a chemical explosive blast,
and a magnetic field can be compressed only by another magnetic field. It is
my opinion that this E-bomb story is being put out to explain away the
energy spikes which will be detected by other nations resulting from the
  clandestine use of nuclear weapons.

Growing like wildfire....Seattle is the latest to Condemn expansion of police powers

44 cities and towns have passed resolutions protecting the civil liberties of their 5,566,084 residents. Many more are in progress. http://www.bordc.org
Congratulations to this week's new Safe Zones:Vashon-Maury Islandand Seattle, Washington;Ashland, Oregon; Castle Valley, Utah;Rockingham, Vermont; andYork, Pennsylvania!

City Council takes aim at Patriot Act
By Jim BrunnerSeattle Times staff reporter
Condemning the expansion of police powers in the war on terrorism, the Seattle City Council yesterday approved a resolution critical of the USA Patriot Act, the broad-ranging federal law passed after Sept. 11, 2001.
The vote put Seattle in the company of more than three dozen cities and towns nationwide that have passed resolutions critical of the act. They include Oakland, Calif., San Francisco, Detroit, Denver and Cambridge, Mass., according to the Bill of Rights Defense Committee.
Seattle council members said they were aware that some might slam them for fretting about an issue that has little to do with the day-to-day business of city government. Indeed, the resolution approved yesterday has no real authority, though it requests city departments to post copies of the Bill of Rights in "prominent locations" in city buildings.
"We may take some ridicule for this," said City Council President Peter Steinbrueck. "I think that's absolutely wrong."
Steinbrueck and others said that with the nation poised on the brink of a possible war with Iraq, it was important for elected leaders to publicly defend civil liberties.
"This resolution is not just whistling in the wind. This is, I believe, ringing the Liberty Bell," said Councilman Nick Licata, who traveled to Washington, D.C., last week for a gathering of city officials opposed to a war with Iraq.
The Patriot Act expanded law-enforcement powers with the intention of making it easier for police to stop terrorists. Those powers include secret searches without warrants; reduced judicial supervision of telephone and Internet surveillance; and increased access by federal agents to medical files, financial documents and library records.
The resolution, approved on a 6-0 vote (with Richard Conlin, Jan Drago and Richard McIver absent) yesterday, says such measures threaten the civil liberties, particularly those of "immigrants and ethnic minorities," under a "false pretense of national security or patriotic zeal."
The measure also reaffirmed support for the Seattle police intelligence ordinance, which limits the ability of local police to gather or share information on religious or political groups. Federal officials have said the city may have to alter the ordinance or risk being shut out of an emerging anti-terrorism database, though no changes have yet been proposed.

Warning
foranyone using LimeWire or Morpheus
For many years now I've used a free
download service called LimeWire. You can usually find songs, programs and
other information others care to share.Lately, there have been a number
of programs that turn up when you search for what you want that are viruses
that plant invisable report programs on your computer. This virus doesn't do
any damage but rather monitors keystrokes and URL visits and reports these
back to another computer. This system has thought of everything you could
possibly search for and has renamed this same file under hundreds of
thousands of different names. It's the exact same file and comes from the

US To Launch War On Iraq From February 23-28

Report by Mike Gaddy

China Central Television reported today that the United States would begin the war on Iraq sometime between the 23rd to the 28th of February. CCTV said it was quoting the Egyptian Gazette on the time frame that has been set by President George W. Bush.
"All the units designated for stage one of the war must be at their battle stations by one of the following dates: Feb. 23, 24 or latest 25," the newspaper quoted US sources in Washington as saying in its "exclusive" report.
By these dates, the Pentagon, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Richard Myers, and war commander Tommy Franks, must be able to inform the president that the armed forces are at their stations and everything is ready for the offensive to start, unless the countdown is wound back to the beginning again, the report said.
The American troika in charge of war planning and operations, Myers, Franks and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, has assured the president that everything has been done from a military, logistical and intelligence standpoint to limit the duration of the war to 100 hours, meaning four to five days, it added.

According to ABC News, the war with Iraq has already begun.

U.S. warplanes have been bombing Iraqi so much, it’s part of the local weather forecasts in Baghdad. Other aircraft are dropping millions of leaflets all over Iraq warning people things are about to change, and explaining in short – “UN resolutions don’t apply here”.
Small numbers of CIA and U.S. military operatives, and Psy-Ops are secretly working inside Iraq.
American commando teams have been operating in Iraq's western desert, where the United States believes Saddam Hussein has hidden Scud missiles capable of hitting Israel or Jordan with nerve gas, sources told ABC NEWS
These teams are dropped by helicopter in darkness. They stay for one to two days in order to hunt scuds, scout for future bases and plant surveillance equipment.
Other teams, operating more openly, have set up small bases in Kurdish-controlled northern Iraq. They are working with tribal leaders, assessing their willingness and ability to fight.

Pentagon Buys Escape Masks for Local Use

By Vernon Loeb
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, February 21, 2003; Page A25

The Defense Department has purchased 80,000 "escape masks" to protect employees and visitors against chemical and biological attacks and will begin distributing them next week at the Pentagon and 46 other leased buildings in the area, defense officials announced yesterday.

Lt. Cmdr. Jeff Davis, a Pentagon spokesman, said the Survivair Quick 2000 masks, which cost $150 apiece, would enable employees, contractors and visitors to safely make their way out of a building or area that has been attacked with poisonous chemicals or biological toxins. The masks, which come packed in a vacuum bag, would not be reusable.

Davis said everyone working at the Pentagon and leased buildings would receive training when they are issued a mask, which they will have to sign for. The Defense Department will distribute about 500 masks a day, starting next week, he said. Caches of masks will be stored throughout the Pentagon for use by visitors.

The masks, manufactured by Quick Protective Systems Inc. in Stuart, Fla., have been tested at the Edgewood Chemical Biological Center at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland.

The Quick 2000 is a hood that covers an individual's head and fastens around the neck. It has a breathing cartridge made of military grade carbon and "provides protection against a wide range of deadly particles and gases," according to Quick Protective Systems' Web site.
