[Therion] Customising map layout

2014-11-04 Thread rowen...@tpg.com.au

Hi All,
I have done lots of playing with the redefinition of map layouts in
Therion (actually TeX). I have found that there is a border around the
pdf images which are included, resulting in significant white space. I
would rather have smaller borders in my pdfs that are generated in
Therion and then included in the final map.Is there a way to make the
borders smaller, or have the white space transparent in the included
maps (using such things as
"legendbox{0}{100}{NW}{loadpicture{/absolute/path/to/file}}"
Thanks,
Rowena

This is a side effect of redefining map layout in TeX directly. There
is a work-around, though, if you add other legendbox to insert the
 image, like

 legendbox{0}{100}{NW}{loadpicture{/absolute/path/to/file}}

[Therion] Multiple elevation maps

2014-11-12 Thread rowen...@tpg.com.au

Hi Bill,
I have wanted to do this as well.My solution was to have multiple
thconfig files, one to generate each of the pdf files, and an
additional thconfig file one to combine them into the final map.(A
more streamlined solution would be appreciated.)

Subject:Re: [Therion] Multiple elevation maps

 Hi Martin -

Yes, these files will produce a PDF. There are two problems.

 1) The Therion compiler issues two warnings. These come from the
select
 statements:

 calculating station coordinates ... done
 calculating basic statistics ... done
 processing extended elevation ... done
 processing references ... done
 selecting export objects ...
therion: warning -- thconfig [57] -- object not found --
"AllElevations.map"

therion: warning -- thconfig [60] -- object not found -- "pdp"
 done
 processing projection extended ... done
 average distortion: 5.52%
 writing PracticeElevation1.pdf ...

 2) The result I want is to have TWO separate files for elevations,
one for each
of the scraps. As it is, the system will only produce one file. If I
add
another export command, it makes two identical files.

[Therion] Cleaning up folders and temp files

2014-11-14 Thread rowen...@tpg.com.au

Hi Vladmir,
You can put commands in your thconfig file to delete the unwanted
files after the  "export" command.
Therion Book, page 46:
‘system’Allows to execute system commands during therion
compilation. 53 Normally Therionwaits until the subprocess is
finished. If you want to continue compilation without break, use &
syntax on Linux and start syntax on Windows.

Subject:[Therion] Cleaning up folders and temp files

 Hi

After I compile a project I end up with several files that I don't
need like:
 .xtherion.dat - don't know what it is
 therion.log
and a couple of temp PDFs that I compile and then merge into a final
PDF that contains both plan and elevation

Is there a way to delete all of those or at least prevent therion
from generating them? I don't really look at the therion.log file.

In the examples I see commands like:
 #!CLEAN rabbit.lox rabbit-plan.pdf rabbit-xelev.pdf
but it doesn't seem to do anything and uncommenting it causes an
error.

[Therion] Sumatra PDF

2014-10-01 Thread rowen...@tpg.com.au
TexWorks is way better than Adobe products, it doesn't lock,  but  I
have not been able to get it to show embedded pdfs in a pdf, eg where
I have separate pdfs of plan, elevation, cross sections and I need to
include them in a final map.
If you have been able to get TexWorks to do this I would love to know
how you got these to display.

For those who run Therion on Windows and have not already seen the
PDF viewer tip on the wiki, I use Sumatra PDF reader which is the only
reader I have found on Windows which does not lock the PDF file when
it is open in the reader, and that renders the PDF correctly as well.
Using Sumatra I can keep the PDF window open and each time I
recompile my project the PDF display refreshes automatically which is
really handy.

I also use Sumatra when using Therion on Windoze. It is non-locking,
and shows embedded .pdf images within a .pdf, (eg plan and elevation)
which other non locking viewers seem incapable of doing.
(in fact I like it so much I am using it at work and convincing my
work colleagues to do likewise.)

[Therion] Data Management

2015-08-19 Thread rowen...@tpg.com.au

hello,
I have successfully created an area  PDF for the 70+ caves in my
area of interest in Australia, using Therion. Can you give more details
of what your result is giving? eg is an error being displayed, can you
produce a .3d file or .lox file of the survey legs, are you able to
see  a pdf created that is missing data?

Subject:[Therion] Data Management

Hi all,

After lots of trial and error I am now producing some good outputs of
individual caves but now I have hit a wall. I believe I’m not
getting the data management correct.

Here’s what I do, I have a folder for the area/system in that
folder I have other folders for the individual caves; this is where my
Top Parser produced th2 .th and config files first landed. I also have
all the Therion produced outputs in these files.

So far so good I think. All works well, good outputs from pdf’s to
kml’s. Now I want to produce a pdf of the area/system using these
separate caves but try as hard as I may I’m just not succeeding.

I have read all the stuff on the wiki over and over and checked back
though this mailing list but all my attempts at this output have
failed. Next plan of attack was to look at other people’s data in
the Cave Registry Data Archive which helped and I now see how the .th
and config files should look but I am still missing something some
where.

I keep seeing snatches of info about index files but can find no
definitive instruction on how to use them.

I realise this problem probable has a simple solution and given
enough time I am sure I can work it out but life’s too short to dick
about for hours especially when someone out there has the answer. Also
I have a deadline looming on some of these maps and I’m now getting
a bit worried I will not make it.

Any help would be appreciated and if anyone in the Yorkshire area
wants to compare notes (I’m sure that there are more numptys like me
out there) I will travel and bring beer.

Nick.
