[tw] Re: using TW5 for study

2014-01-10 Thread Julie
You can't use the usual search tool for fields, but you can use the list
widget to search into them:

$list filter=[organ[liver]] template=$:/core/ui/ListItemTemplate/

- all the tiddlers with the field organ = liver
You may have a tiddler SearchFields with this list, and edit it to make
another search (I'm sure it would even be possible to use some widgets
(edit, button, set...) to make a nice search text area).

You can also define a macro in order to use it with parameters:

\define search-field(field,search)
$list filter=[$field$[$search$]] template=$:/core/ui/ListItemTemplate/
\end

and then in the same tiddler:
search-field field:organ search:liver

- you can built a tiddler with several searches pre-defined.

If you put the macro in the system tiddler $:/core/ui/PageMacros, save and
then reload the wiki, the macro should even be accessible in any tiddler
(for exemple, a tiddler for each organ, a tiddler for each color, ... each
of them containing the list of related tiddlers).

I've implemented a regular expression search which you might want to test.
See tiddler RegExpFilter on http://tiddlystuff.tiddlyspot.com/

Drag the 2 tiddlers

$:/core/modules/filters.js
$:/core/modules/filters/field.js

to your wiki, save and reload.

2014-01-10 Thread Jeremy Ruston
Hi Leo

TW5 isn't finished, whereas TWC is a mature product with a mature ecosystem
of addons and tools around it. They both have a role and will both continue
to coexist for the foreseeable future. Eric continues to enhance TWC, and
it continues to have many happy users. Using TWC is a good choice, as it
takes advantage of one of the special things about TW, which is the
community around it, and the wonderful sense you sometimes get of finding
that someone else has already figured something for you before you even
knew that you needed it.

As Eric says, asking questions will never be a problem in this group. Lots
of us spend quite a lot of time here, and so it needs to be a respectful,
warm place.

By the way, I've just posted details of the next hangout on Tuesday 14th:

As y'all have probably figured out, I'm a rank newcomer, but I've decided
to jump into TWC because it's already mature. I'd love to have been able to
jump into TW5, but ... I'm an end user. I just won't be able to make TW5
work yet. Are questions and discussion about TWC (and its plugins and
offshoots like giewiki, tGSD, and tbGSD) allowed, or discouraged in the
 Hangouts?

As I've been looking more closely the last couple weeks, I've become
convinced that TiddlyWiki is the tool I've been looking for for a long
time, I'm just going to need to pour a LOT of hours into making it do what
I need. I just hope I don't annoy or tax anybody with my incessant
questions in that process. Y'all seem like a pretty relaxed and groovy
community, so I'm not worried too much about that.

[tw] Re: TW5 - Making a global macro

2014-01-10 Thread Julie
The tabs macro is currently in this PageMacros tiddler, so you're right:
there may be copy/paste to do if a version modify this tiddler, and a
release may even simply delete it. For now, I haven't encountered upgrade
issues with 5.0.5 and 5.0.6. (my overridden PageMacros is imported in the
new empty wiki).
So it is for me a temporary but useful solution as I'm not a JS programmer,
until an official solution for global macros is provided. And I make sure I
compare the tiddlywiki.com PageMacros and mine at each release in order to
verify if any change has been made.

[tw] TW5 - rationale for node.js

2014-01-10 Thread Andrew Lister
I got TW5 working under node.js without any difficulties, and was pleased
to discover that in this form each toddler gets saved as a text file. Why?
One of the dilemmas I've had with TW is that it interferes with my filing
and retrieval system. I have moved to putting my documents in the same
folder, one per year, and then tagging them all in various ways. The system
is a bit of work, but it solves the problem of I know I wrote something
about income inequality in the U.S., but was in in a lecture, a grant
application, or a paper? (all of which would be in different folders,
under a traditional hierarchical folder system). Full-text searching is
useful, but for a term such as inequality, it would (for me) pull up
hundreds of files. The problem TW creates is that a large TW - say for a
course - would end up needing a very large number of tags - and in
full-text searching, it will show up all the time. Thus any content search
on my computer would have to be done twice - once for ordinary files, and
once within the large TW.

Hence the possible advantage, for me, of node.js: tiddlers are text files,
and can be tagged like ordinary files, and so retrieved in global,
computer-wide tag-based searching. Does this make sense? I think it
should also be possible to put or at least to duplicate these texts files
in a sync'd folder, so that they could be accessible via any text note
application on mobile. (I'm recreating with TW5 my current set-up using
NValt and Notesy via Dropbox).

I'm sure most people won't want to duplicate tagging, inside TW and out.
Me neither. One possibility is to not to tag internally at all, but just
rely on links - but that drops a lot of TW functionality. What about
automatically writing internal TW tags to the tiddler file meta-data? I
don't know if I'm saying that right or if this is even a possibility, I
don't have any technical knowledge.

Which leads to my main question - what is the main or intended purpose of
being able to run TW under node.js? How are other people using or how do
other people intend to use this, or where do developers hope to push this,
in the future?

Offtopic - is anyone working on a slide show theme?

Andrew

I created a bookmarklet which should be able to transform a WikiText macro
into JavaScript code. Maybe you want to try?

Check on http://tw5magick.tiddlyspot.com the tiddler Macro to Javascript

Simply drag the bookmarklet to your bookmarks.

Open a new tiddler and paste your macro definition into it.

While the cursor is still in the edit's textarea, invoke the bookmarklet.

Your new tiddler should now have a javascript version of your macro.

Yes, as expected it is falling over a JavaScript feature that is not
present in IE9. That particular feature can be faked in JavaScript:

https://github.com/inexorabletash/polyfill/blob/master/es5.js#L75

So, it may be possible to create a plugin that plugs some of the holes in
IE9. It's not something that I'm keen to give much attention to right now,
though, as there's so much to do to get where I want with contemporary
browsers. It's a good area for a contributor to work, though; it doesn't
require extensive knowledge of TW5's internals.

Best wishes

Re: [tw] Using Image Map in TW5 to link to certain tiddlers

2014-01-10 Thread Jeremy Ruston
It's not currently possible to create tiddler links in HTML; a JavaScript
event handler is needed, and that event handler needs to execute in the
right context of the widget render tree. The mechanism is more complicated
than you might expect because it supports multiple stories on the page at
once.

As a hack, one could imagine adding a document event handler that traps
clicks on any element with an HREF and navigates to the target tiddler
using the default story. (There isn't really any concept of a default story
at the moment, though).

Best wishes

Jeremy.

[tw] Re: TW5 - rationale for node.js

2014-01-10 Thread Andrew Lister
About syncing for mobile, if I just move MyWiki into my Dropbox folder, I
can have access to all tiddlers, up to date, on mobile. Not as nice as
having TW itself, but this way on my computer my tiddlers are
individualized, from the file system's point of view.

[tw] Re: using TW5 for study

2014-01-10 Thread Pedro Maia
Yes, I'm using tags a lot and so far so good.

Julie, thanks for the tips. This is the kind of stuff I wish I could know
how to do. TW5 seems to have a lot of uses that I don't know. Also, it
seems it will be perfect to store pacient history.

I've been using tiddlywiki to study chinese medicine and I know it can be

Right now I'm using tags to do everything, but I suspect that I could use
field to accomplish more, but I couldn't search for fields. A example of
what I'm doing is tagging Liver with: fire, yang, viscera, etc. It makes
easy to find anything I want, I type yang, fire, viscera and it founds
liver. If I need to find a simpton or treatment I just need to type the
 tags.

I think filters would made the job to enter information much easier since
it could have a default tiddler template for different needs. But, since I
couldn't manage to search for a field I'm not using them. Maybe I'm not
sure what is fields job. I think I can use them to substitute tags like
 this:

 - Wood Tiddler

 - fields:

  - color: green

  - organ: liver

  - season: spring

  - emotion: rage

I would transclude this fields at the tiddler with: $transclude
 field=color/

What else I could do with TW5?

[tw] TW5/TWC Minus character (-) and missing tiddler format

2014-01-10 Thread Sisyphos
Hi,

Is there a way how to stop TiddlyWiki interpreting words separated by minus
characters as missing tiddlers? I'm from Germany. Many combined nouns are
connected by the minus character. The text doesn't look nice and its
confusing as well. Camel case is from my point of view enough.

Thank you,
Sisyphos

[tw] Minus character (-) for missing tidddler, intents of paragraphs and converter from Zim to TiddlyWiki syntax

2014-01-10 Thread Sisyphos
Hi,

I'm new to TiddlyWiki and I would like to congratulate all contributors of
this very handy tool. I'm now trying TW 5.0.6-beta and I put some texts
from ZIM wiki to TiddlyWiki (I need a real platform independent solution
now, which works on android as well). I have tested TiddlyWiki on several
computers and android devices -- it simply works. Great! Now I'm comping
with some issues:

1. I'm from Germany. In this language there lot of words, usually nouns,
which are connected by the minus character. So in my texts too. They are
formated with the missing tiddler style (italics ...). Is there a way to
stop this? Its very confusing and doesn't look nice, esp. in headlines.

2. Is there a possibility to intent paragraphs? Something like this

Text level one.
Text level two?
Text level three?

3. Does someone know a way how to convert ZIM wiki texts to TiddlyWiki? I
have stored a lot of articles and would like to have access on them on
android devices with TiddlyWiki.

Many thanks,
Sisyphos

[tw] Re: TW5 - copying tiddler as html?

2014-01-10 Thread Andrew Lister
Sorry, copying and pasting just works, there's no problem. From the
rendered tiddler, I mean, not from the edit window. Not sure what I was
doing wrong the first time... unless simply copying from edit window. The
only problem is that the lines of the tables are transparent - might be
something to do with the theme.

As a hack, one could imagine adding a document event handler that traps

just a thought... no idea how viable:

If there is a way to get to the underlying widget render tree then it
might be possible to add onclick=... event handlers directly on the AREA
elements of the image map so they can be invoked with the correct context
(using the .call() method), so that the clicks don't have to be trapped at
the document level and the current story context can be used without
introducing the context-free default story concept.

[tw] [TW5] Custom ViewTemplate with tags

2014-01-10 Thread Albertononi
In classic TW, I used to have different templates (ViewTemplate) to show my
tiddlers, using tags. For instance, all tiddlers tagged Author used the
AuthorViewTemplate.

Is there a way to do the same with TW5?

I would like for instance to have a template with the following:

$button message=tw-new-tiddler class=bluebutton
param=BookTemplateNew book/$buttonbrbr
$list filter=[is[current]tagging[]]/$list

Thanks!

[tw] Build TiddlyWiki5 from individual tiddlers

2014-01-10 Thread Marc
Hi all,

I'm not sure that I'm following the instructions correctly for building a
TiddlyWiki from source tiddlers.

On an Ubuntu Lucid system, I build a TiddlyWiki per the tiddler How to
build a TiddlyWiki5 from individual tiddlers at tiddlywiki.com. I have
installed nodejs (0.10.24-1chl1~lucid1) and the npm package tiddlywiki
(version 5.0.6-beta). In my case, tiddlywiki.js is installed to
/usr/lib/node_modules/tiddlywiki/.

I create the folders ~/HelloWiki and ~/HelloWiki/tiddlers, and the
following files:

~/HelloWiki/tiddly.info:

{}

~/HelloWiki/tiddlers/hello.tid:

title: Hello
modifier: me

Hello.

I execute: node /usr/lib/node_modules/tiddlywiki/tiddlywiki.js
~/HelloWiki --rendertiddler $:/core/save/all index.html text/plain.

It produces a TiddlyWiki at ~/index.html wthout error, but when I open it
with Firefox (20.0), it seems to lack stylesheets: i.e., the content is
there, but it's rendered very crudely.

Am I doing something wrong? I want to build a proper TiddlyWiki with a
single Hello tiddler.

[tw] Images not rendering

2014-01-10 Thread Stuart Dyne
I'm new to TW so be gentle.

When I put a (fractal.jpg) image in the same folder as the .html TW file
then I would expect this syntax to show the image ...

but it doesn't show the image, it just shows

all the time. It's the same if I open the .html file with IE or Firefox.
The image file seems to be OK as it opens from, say, Windows Explorer.

What am I doing wring please?

[tw] Hosting TiddlyWiki5 so I can view/edit/update from anywhere

2014-01-10 Thread Lyall
I have my domains, etc hosted on shared linux via a commercial hosting
provider, here in Australia (AussieHQ)

I have been looking at alternatives to TW classic as browser security has
gradually hobbled it's utility, at least for me. Particularly with saving :(

I am currently using KeePass2, purely because I can run it on Windows and
Linux. However, KeePass2 sucks when I compare it to the utility of
TiddlyWiki.

So, now I am coming back to TW but looking at TW5, with the added bonus I
won't even have to port my Encryption plugin from TWc :)

Is there a guide/HOWTO on what software/configurations I need to make it so
that TW5 can be viewed/edited/updated on my hosting from my browser?

I did a quick google on this and looked throughout tiddlywiki.com, but
there was nothing obvious.

Thanks in advance.

[tw] Creating a macro for a new tiddler

2014-01-10 Thread Ronen Teva
Hi,
It's been a while since I've used TiddlyWiki, decided to try using TW5
which is looking awesome!

I wonder if there is a way to create a new tiddler using custom title and
tags?

For example,
At the end of each tiddler I would like to show a text box and button named
add sub-task.
The button will create a new tiddler titled by the text box content, and
tagged with both task and current tiddler name.

Any help will me greatly appreciated :)

(I managed to add a button which adds a new tiddler based on a skeleton,
but it's just not good enough)

Which TiddlyWiki are you using? Hint: Put [TW5] or [TWC] into the subject

Where did you find the [img[… syntax? Was it here?

Did you notice, the tiddler was labeled RoadMap? This means: Those

You can put an external image by writing standard html code.

You can also include images in your wiki. Read
