I see!

The extra space is removed when it is processed to be displayed in the
tiddler title.

thanks for clearing that up Eric!

[tw] Re: TiddlyWiki is very irritating.

2017-06-22 Thread @TiddlyTweeter
this thread has been interesting. not least by an idea we are culpable of
the sin of not doing the best. But that is not so.

I can match Richards' ME and more with my MS, which is far, far worse.

Its beside the point to try make an app optimal for a disabled condition
UNLESS you have an explicit SOLVABLE aim. As far as I can see the ONLY
really useful adaptations on-line for disability so far are around COLOUR
vision.

I don't see anyone making an MS (multiple sclerosis) or ME (chronic fatigue
syndrome) specific solution yet. Or likely ever to.

TBH I do NOT think my problem (with MS) should EVER be your problem. In
fact I really should never have mentioned it. I'm only doing it in the
context of this thread.

Nor do I think that someone with ME is any special case. They came into
this as an adult. If they can't find their way around its PART OF *THEIR*
MANAGEMENT ISSUE.

Life is shit. But let's be okay with what we have. MOST of it is nothing to
do with TiddlyWiki.

Best wishes

I'm going to say 'no'. This is not a good idea in my opinion. You need
something more robust to handle that kind of volume - maybe you could back
TW with a database, a la TiddlyPouch/NoteSelf (search the forum if you're
interested) but even then, I think you will be better off with something
that's designed for your use-case.

The people at Wordpress (Automattic) use Slack for a similar (?)

[tw] Using Tiddlywiki to track a very large volume of information

2017-06-22 Thread Matt Tracy
I work for a regional multiservice operator in the wireless department. We're
looking for a way to easily track and search issues (including historical views
post-implementation) for anyone in the company without needing to go through a
ton of emails. Tiddlywiki will work well if it can handle the volume of
notifications we get, as it has tag support, browser support, and an easy to
use interface.

My question is if can even handle the workload through a single html file.
We're talking about like a gigabyte+ worth of text and thousands of toddlers.

There are TWO spaces between "Using" and "A" (note the %20%20 in the link
above!)

However, your transclusion only has ONE space in the reference... thus, it
is a different title and does not match the title of the imported tiddler.

[tw] Re: anchor top when editing tiddler

2017-06-22 Thread @TiddlyTweeter
Things that come up for me in this thread are questions like ...

 1 - WHAT is an Editor for?
 2 - HOW should it be best displayed?
 3 - Do different types of TW (with functionally different aims) need
DIFFERENT Editor Manifestations?

For instance, at the moment, the default editor enters the stream and when
you have edited and saved the Tiddler created it is added to the stream. It
seems to me that that behaviour is optimal for only some cases, not all.

IMO, a FLOATED Editor that, on save also EXITS the Tiddler could be good.
This approach would serve apps well where the purpose was to add content,
but not display it as a fragment. Rather, its part of a larger project in
which the underlying plan places it appropriately.

The work done in TiddlyMap I think is very instructive on this kind of
thing. I believe it uses adapted Modals for Editing.

BTB, I suspect some of the layout issues would work differently if the
orientation towards what "Editing" is for were played with.

Just thoughts.

Best wishes
Josiah

[tw] Re: TiddlyWiki is very irritating.

2017-06-22 Thread A M Alfaro
I had to look up ME and then realized I know it by it's original name:
chronic fatigue syndrome. An ex of mine had it and it was extremely
debilitating. For everyone else unfamiliar with the disease, imagine the
most strenuous workout you've ever had and the tiredness/soreness/fatigue
which followed. Then multiply that until you are so sore and tired,
physically and mentally, that getting from the bed to the couch feels like
an insurmountable task for which you should be awarded a Nobel prize
because now you'll be lucky if you can make it back to bed in an hour.
Every activity comes with a cost/risk analysis to decide if it's worth the
effects that will follow in the coming days. Because no matter what, there
is always a price to pay for the simplest exertions. I know some people
want to say "oh well if it's just tiredness from exertion, then what's the
big deal?", but it's a compounding disease meaning the more you do, the
more you are affected. I could go on but I'm going to stop here.

So I understand your frustration Richard. Tiddlywiki 5 is definitely not at
a point which I would recommend to someone with limited resources. Maybe
classic tiddlywiki since it already has so much built for it. The major
problem with it is the increasing difficulty of saving it via the three
major browsers. Which is the reason that TW5 has been released in it's
current state. I would recommend using TWC either with TiddlyDesktop or in
FireFox with the TiddlyFox extension installed. I use FF w/TF at home for
my TWC files and have had no issues so far. If you go to tiddlyspot.com
you'll find a few flavors of TWC which may already be set up to meet your
needs. I've also made a list of oft-returned to TWC plugin repositories in
one of my own wikis at ama.bookmarks.tiddlyspot.com.

I really hope you won't abandon Tiddlywiki entirely, but I know you need to
use the tools best suited to your situation.

Take care,
ama

[tw] [TWC] How to delay the execution of a macro or a part of it

2017-06-22 Thread whatever
Hi!
I'm working on a plugin, which, depending on the amount of data it needs to
process, can take up to a minute to render. In the mean time, the TWC is
practically frozen. Is there any way to delay the processing of the macro
until the tiddler is loaded? Or delay the processing part of the macro?
Which would actually be preferable, if I could display a placeholder
message that the macro is processing stuff. I've played with setTimeout,
both inside and outside of the handler, but it didn't work. Any ideas?

[tw] Re: anchor top when editing tiddler

2017-06-22 Thread Mat
Good idea to hide the toolbar.

I made this to have it show-on-hover (or, if touch screen, show-on-tap!).
In order to have an area on which to hover, I attempted to increase the
margin above the editor field... but I fail to do so. Instead I increased
the margin below the tags field but this is of course only OK if there is
no other custom field appearing between the tags and the editor.

Other than that there is some styling applied that I think works well or
even better than in the native layout.

<:-)

tag: $:/tags/Stylesheet

.tc-edit-tags {
  margin-bottom:12px
}
.tc-editor-toolbar {
  position:absolute;
  left:0;
  width:100%;
  font-size:0;

  margin-top:-11px; /* pull it up */

}
.tc-editor-toolbar:hover {
  font-size:1em;

  background:white;

.tc-editor-toolbar button {
  display:none;
  padding:0px;

.tc-editor-toolbar:hover button {
