[tw] Re: brainstorm: decentralised wikis, Ethereum, blockchain

2017-10-20 Thread HansWobbe
Hello all.

Its nice to see interest in blockchain technologies by folks that I have
watched in this community for quite a long time since I feel can appreciate
and trust their level of knowledge and their motives much more than the
"hype" that pervades so much of the web.

@Jed Please don't stop ranting too much. Some of the negative factors you
see are much more realistice assessments than the assertions of venture
capatalists that have come to my attention. One fundamental aspect that
catches my attention is the assumption that blockchains need to be
"monolithic". Lately I've seen some interesting speculation about the
possible value of "micro-monoliths" that rely on the DLT to vastly
replicate common components, that are themselves just a part of a greater
context that could be assembled, given a chained collection of the
indivdual, replicated components. Theoretically, this reduces the size and
rate of groth of a blockchain by breaking it up into smaler, related
segments. This is probably not theoretically secure, but it certainly adds
enough complexity to, in practice, make a target secure by taking it of the
"path of least resistance" that professional criminals attack in order to
be efficient.

@mario Thanks for the references.

[tw] PROBLEM: TEXT OF <<.def is not visible in Tiddlers created from empty.html

2017-10-20 Thread christianhauck
I downloaded empty.html, entered some content manually, and also imported
some tidders from tiddlywiki.com.
For example, I dragged and dropped the tiddler "Railroad Diagrams"
Compared to the full Tiddlywiki, the image of the railroad diagrams was not
visible. Solution: Contorl Panel, Plugins, get more plugins, Railroad
Diagram plugin. Save, and reload. Works.
But also the text at the beginnig , which in the Tidder (coded) is

<<.def "Railroad diagrams">>, sometimes called <<.def "syntax diagrams">>,
are

and in Tiddlwiki is rendered as

Railroad diagrams, sometimes called syntax diagrams, are

appears in my slightly modified empty.html only as

, sometimes called , are

So the text of the definitions, what is inside the markup, is missing.
What do I need to do in order to have the full functionality?

thanks

TiddlyWiki.com has a lot of macros defined for documentation. I believe the
one with the .def macro is
here http://tiddlywiki.com/#%24%3A%2Feditions%2Ftw5.com%2Fdoc-macros
If you import that tiddler into your wiki it should work.

[tw] Trying to use Alias from http://tw5magick.tiddlyspot.com/

2017-10-20 Thread 'Travis Sharp' via TiddlyWiki
I'm new to TW5 and using a freshly downloaded copy. I'm trying to
implement the Alias function from http://tw5magick.tiddlyspot.com/ but I
must be missing something. I've created the tiddler "alias" and copied the
code from the origin precisely. I've created the field alias with
|alternatename| as the value, but when referenced with {{alternatename||alias}}
nothing shows up in the tiddler. It's just blank when rendered. What am I
missing? Thank you!

I am using this also in one of my wikies. I get at link to the tiddler with
the alias field. If your copy is correct and you have no spelling errors it
should work.
I think Stephan hradek also used a tiddler titled unwikified tagged
template and the content: <$view field="title"/> is that what you are
missing?

   - I am running the General release version of Firefox and receiving

   - I am running TiddlyServer on my Windows Desktop with generous folders,

   - I document and capture each tiddlywikis tiddlyServer address and
Navigate to it that way eg

[tw] Re: brainstorm: decentralised wikis, Ethereum, blockchain

2017-10-20 Thread HansWobbe
Blockchains do indeed keep growing (as do most of my tiddly wikis).
However, as they grow, logical clusters emerge that can be viewed as the
seeds for yet another Blockchain. The new blockchains can refer back to
the original one, creating a kind of next generation that has new
information that can refer back to the prior generation or simply augment
the prior information.

In practice, there will be performance issues at any time that limit the
effective size, but that also applies to a tidlywiki file (and any other
file structure).

The concept that seems to emerge also has aspects of (read only) federation
for those tiddlers that are important enough to warrant being widely
distributed.
