[tw5] Re: Image before Tiddler possible?

2020-07-28 Thread Rafael Oliveira
Using the *_canonical_uri *solves the problem of the icon with an external
image. However, I'd like to find a way to do it in a more automated way
because my main goal is to integrate TiddlyWiki with another external web
application that I'm developing...

Basically, I have an API of images with all tiddlers' titles... The address
is something like the following:

http://localhost:/myapi/images?name={tiddler's title is here}

For me it would be great if I could add this icon directly on the .tid
file. I imagine something like:

created: 20180624045100371
list:
modified: 20180814143935323
tags: sample
title: This is the title of my tiddler
icon: http://localhost:/myapi/images?name={title}
type: text/vnd.tiddlywiki

Is it possible to do something like that on TiddlyWiki? For me that would
be perfect because it'd be a simple way of having an icon that depends on
the title of the tiddler that is being created...

Automating the* _canonical_uri* seems a little hard for me because I'd have
to create a different tiddler for the image and I'd still have to find a
way to fill the icon field in an automated way (which I don't know if it's
a simple thing to do)... Do you see alternatives solutions to this problem?

A different approach that I've thought would be giving up of the icon
besides the title and just putting it on the first line of the tiddler...
So it'd be something like:

created: 20180624045100371
list:
modified: 20180814143935323
tags: sample
title: This is the title of my tiddler
type: text/vnd.tiddlywiki

[img

But for this solution I'd need two different things:

 1. Getting the title of the tiddler from within it and using it as a
 parameter for my link
 2. Configuring TiddlyWiki to include
 *[img* on the first
line of all new tiddlers that are created

Are those two things possible?

Pointing me to the right directions here would help me lot already :)...
Now I'm still a little lost on where I should start with tiddlywiki :)

There are four ways to show images in TW5:
* using embedded image tiddlers (encoded binary as base64 text in tiddlers
with the type field set to a suitable image/* MIME type
* using external URL references (e.g., https:/mypage/img.png)
* using the _canonical_uri field to create image tiddlers that point to
external URI references
* using pure HTML syntax just like any other web page

[tw5] Re: CSV table

2020-07-28 Thread TW Tones
Eric, Ankit,

Sorry, I may have made an ass out of my self by ass'uming.

As you point Eric out the csv needs to be "strict" and can't contain
complex data in cells such as additional commas.

I don't dispute what you are saying only that there are many cases where
this simple and strict CSV standard is available so a simple parser works.
This is even more so the case if you control the source of the CSV records
because you can ensure they comply with these simple standards.

Ankit - If your need varies from this simple standard, do ask for a fix,
otherwise a more robust solution like Eric's is essential.

[tw5] Re: [New Here] A hello and the set of questions!

2020-07-28 Thread TW Tones
Prestige,

You have the right approach. Evolve your wiki as you go, just use a backup
process, so when making larger changes you don't destroy your data. Keep in
mind you may divide it in future to more than one wiki.

Design you wiki so it is easy to separate the data from the workings, and
it will be easy to migrate into another edition etc... eg give tiddlers a
project or subject tag etc...

Tony

In the $:/ControlPanel, Info, Basic tab, there is a setting for: *Default
focus field for new tiddlers *
which has a droplist offering choices: *title*, *tags*, *text*, *type*, or
*fields*

For your specific use-case, just choose "text", and you should be ready to
go.

CSV *contains a comma as content*,
then the entire cell content is wrapped in quotes, like this:
foo, bar, "baz, has a comma", mumble, frotz, "gronk has one, too", snork,
snerfle

which contains cells:
baz, has a comma
and
gronk has one, too

Unfortunately, CSV doesn't use quotes around *every cell* (i.e., even the
ones without commas),
so it's not possible to incorporate simple split[", "] handling into the
filter logic.

Even worse, a cell can contain literal quotes as well, which are
automatically *doubled* to distinguish
them from quotes used as cell delimiters... and they don't even have to be
matched pairs of quotes!

Thus:
foo, bar, "baz, has ""a"" comma", mumble, ""frotz"", "gronk has ""one
quote, too", snork, snerfle
contains cells:
baz, has "a" comma
and
"frotz"
and
gronk has "one quote, too

To make the problem yet still more complicated, cell values in CSV can also
contain literal newlines which,
similar to cells containing commas, are also contained within quotes as
delimiters.

Thus, this can be *one* row in CSV:
foo, bar, "baz, has ""a"" comma", "mumble
""two"" lines, and a comma", ""frotz"", "gronk has ""one quote, too", snork,
snerfle
which contains the cell:
mumble
"two" lines, and a comma

So it's not even possible to use splitregexp[\n] to get each row of the
input, unless you first recognize when
a newline is within a quoted cell value.

Back in the TWC days, I wrote a javascript-based handler that accounted for
these difficult cases, but the
code wasn't trivial... here's a link to my code:
http://tiddlytools.com/#CreateTiddlersFromCSV

As you can see, I had to go to great lengths to juggle the input,
converting embedded commas and
newlines into placeholders !~comma~! and !~newline~! just to be able to
split it into lines and cells,
and then convert the placeholders back to embedded literals when processing
the cell values.

I suppose something similar *might* be possible using TW5 filter logic, but
it's certainly a lot more
complicated than the algorithm you indicated.

Sometimes, you just need a scalpel instead of a hammer, even if there are
nails to deal with!

[tw5] Is it possible to create a macro that makes the focus of the page change to the tiddler's body instead of its title when I click on edit?

2020-07-28 Thread Rafael Oliveira
I've started using the vim mode with codemirror on my TiddlyWiki today.
But one thing that bothers me is that when I click to edit my tiddler the
focus of the text is on my tiddler's title instead of its body.

Is it possible to create a macro that changes this behavior focusing on the
text of my tiddler when I open it for editing? Or any alternative way of
doing it (without creating a macro)?

As I also use the vimium c extension on the browser to navigate through
pages I think my flow would be better with this little difference...

[tw5] Re: [TWCrosslinks/TWBacklinking]Creating a table of content.

2020-07-28 Thread twid...@gmail.com
Hi Prestige,

If you mean an automatically generated TOC at, say, the bottom of the
tiddler generated by links to it, I recommend the TOCgeneric plugin:

- at the bottom of every tiddler* all references is shown* in lists.

 - tags
 - backlinks
 - list (the content of the list field of the present tiddler)
 - listed (other tiddlers that have the tiddler in there list field)

- *all lists are collapsible*
*show content of all tiddlers* (transclusions) in the lists
etc.

I'm pretty sure this plugin provides viewing to back links so using this
and Stroll's plugin for linking would be redundant.

If you mean a TOC in the side bar, tag some tiddler with a title like
TableOfContents with $:/tags/SideBar. Then tag each tiddler that you want
to show on there with the title (in this case TableOfContents). Tiddlers
tagged with the title of tiddlers that show up on the TOC also show up
there and etc. You can use this method for adding new tabs in the sidebar
in general, although themes may use different tags for tabs.

[tw5] Re: [New Here] A hello and the set of questions!

2020-07-28 Thread Prestige
Tony,
Thanks for a wonderful reply. The ideas you convey will definitely add to
my learning, and I am already trying stuff with my limited knowlegde. The
thing is, I need to get started with the notemaking as the exams are
nearing, so kind of want the setup ready soon. I will keep on changing the
Wikis as per my needs maybe at time to time intervals when I have 'free
time' :p.

But yes, I am very curious about the possiblities here at TiddlyWiki!

I liked the idea of using TW5 for different purpose vehicles - I was
thinking on these lines too! Like, can make my notes at one place and
import them later into Maps to study via views directly. Something like
that.

Thanks again! I will keep posting queries and hope you will engage at some
point or the other :)

I am correct in thinking we do not have a method to unzip a wiki within

 - Perhaps if it could do so and place the files into the import

 - I wonder if the zip tool could create tiddlers that display the zips

Food for thought

2020-07-28 Thread TW Tones
Prestige,

I read your post yesterday, and only getting to reply today. I see there
has being a lot of water under the bridge since then, however I want to
share my approach to making use of different tools and editions available.

may I suggest *"think outside the Box/tiddlywiki"*, I make use of multiple
wikis mostly using Timimi in Chrome and Tiddlywiki but also TiddlyServer,
TiddlyDesktop and Bob. This helps avoid too many clashed between editions
and plugins etc...

 - I divide wikis by functional area and project etc...
 - with a couple dedicated to links, plugin library, reference material.
 - I also have wikis that act as factories to create tools
 - Or sources of images and icons
 - I have some dedicated to file conversion and imports I can then
 transfer to the destination wiki

You could call this "meta tiddlywiki" or being god of your own Tiddlyverse"

There are many tools and tricks can help with this

 - such as Mohammads searchwikis that allows you to import multiple
search index's into one wiki to search across multiple wikis.
 - iframes to other wikis - you can drag and drop between them
 - The new ZIP plugin
 - and many more techniques

Drag and drop is also your friend, and more and more easy methods are
coming available for quick interwiki transfers.

Tony

[tw5] Re: CSV table

2020-07-28 Thread TW Tones
Ankit,

No need for javascript here, a man with a hammer sees everything as a nail?

If you paste the content of a csv file into a tiddler, or drop it on the
wiki it is imported as csv. It is then surprisingly simple to parse it into
separate tiddlers or directly to display a table. No extra manual work.

Also prior to the xml parser there is the
https://tiddlywiki.com/#XLSX%20Utilities%20Edition that goes from EXCEL to
tiddlers.

<$list filter="[[TransactionHistory.csv]get[text]splitregexp[\n]]"
variable=row>

 <$list filter="[split[,]]" variable=cell>
<>

This can be extended to obtain the first[] row as headings, and the
"rest[]" and use that in the table.

However I in some cases I would be inclined to convert rows to tiddlers
since the csv export can be used to send them back as a csv file.

Tony

[tw5] Re: Export tiddlers as Zip file (from single HTML)

2020-07-28 Thread TW Tones
Bimlas et al.

Thanks for sharing this. It does open some new workflow possibilities. I
have being playing with the zip possibilities a little as well.

 - I attached a Favicons SVG you may want to use.

Some other thoughts;

 - To make it universal perhaps a zip to .txt files option even if the
content is the same as tids, may be reassuring to some, given tids are a
 "tiddlywiki" file.

Some play with your solution

 - I just exported [haschanged]] filter which may be good for a
progressive safety backup when making risky edits.
 - The advantage being you can edit the "problem" tiddler in an
external editor (after expanding the zip) and drag and drop to return
it.
 - A lot easier than looking for the offending tiddler in a json file.
 - Allows you to drag different zip bundles of changes back to the
wiki and save them for history if needed
 - Extracting tiddlers in the zip to the local file system generates
files with the same time stamp, so subsequent edits are obvious.
 - The fact one can preview the contents of a zip file before installing
means packages of tiddlers can reviewed before dropping on a wiki (eg
 readme)

The Zip facility as a whole.

 - I can drop any zip on the wiki, then export that zip and unzip making
tiddlywiki the transport or zip publishing mechanism
 - In fact since a zip can contain anything including executable and
 transport or publishing.
 - It would be nice if we can add a path to files names inside the zip
 - Would it not be marvellous if we can now use a mailto with the zip
 file attached.

Next;

 - [selectively] Extracting tiddlers from the Zip "in wiki".
 - add adding a prefix as I do so.

[tw5] Re: How can I activate the vim mode using the CodeMirror plugin with Tiddlywiki?

2020-07-28 Thread Rafael Oliveira
It worked now! The reload part I had done before but it didn't work too...
Honestly, I don't know what was the problem. I just erased everything I had
installed from codemirror and did it again from zero. After that it worked.
I think it was some conflict between plugins because I had installed a lot
of codemirror stuff while I was trying to make the vim mode work.

Thanks again for the responses!

I have not seen this error, and I've run through the whole sequence of 5
work sessions/break times (with shortened times of 1 minute work and 15
seconds break). Can you tell me more about what happened? Can you
reproduce it with the latest version (just updated to add configuration

Right now, the "demo" has only two steps, "work session" and "break time".
Each step is implemented by "daisy-chaining" coded macros.
Ideally, you would just enter a table of steps and times and the macros
would be auto-generated. But that's certainly more complex.
I need to think about the best way to do this.

Also... you only spend 2 minutes for lunch and 5 minutes for dinner, but 3
hours for an ice-bath?!?
and you can run 15km in just 15 minutes?!? WOW!

I am using TiddlyMap with Stroll or Drift, both are havin troubles with it.
Please someone from the team can help me out?

1) RSOE at when worksession 4 break is to start. "Uncaught RangeError:

2) For the *practical* use of these CountdownSequences, it would be neat if
it is possible to *define sessions* that one can select. I imagine a little

I've only activated this option after installing the plugin... In general

[tw5] Re: [New Here] A hello and the set of questions!

2020-07-28 Thread Prestige
Emily,
Thanks for sharing your way of working and setup. I haven't used Trello or
Notion either. I am kind of starting note taking digitally, and I started
off with Notion but kept moving on and on :p
Yes, I included TidGraph, and Leaflet too.
And yes, all three themes by JD are a big thumbs up for me. I am using
Drift variant which used the Mono theme. I like Moonlight too.

* SampleCountdownSequence now does cycles!

Demo is 10 minutes work session followed by 2 minutes break time, repeated
5 times
(1 hour total).

There's still more customization and optimization to come:

* Interface for entering worksession/breaktime durations (currently coded
into the demo)
* Option for triggering other actions (e.g., "play a sound") (currently
just shows modal notifications)

Let me know what else it should do...

I see, so the procedure is different when I use it on node.js... My only

I found myself missing a toggle although I could link a tiddler to avoid a

Aha! I hoped it was going to be simple - thanks for chiming in JD! That's

On a separate note, stupid question - how did you generate the "code block"

2020-07-28 Thread emilyk...@gmail.com
Hey,

I've recently started using TW too and moved on from Notion. I would
recommend TidGraph if you just want to view stuff. Easy to use and
configure in tiddlers.

http://ihm4u.github.io/tw5plugs/

I use it for my notes. For a trello-like board I'd recommend DropBoard.

https://reidgould.github.io/tiddlywiki-dropboard/

I use it a different board for different categories, and have a Today View
that shows Today tiddlers for organized viewing. Similar to my Notion
setup, I used TiddlyTables to make a table for assigning durations to each
task scheduled for today. Using the durations I show how many hours they
are in total in my Today View and above the durations table.

The Shiraz plugin (a general quality-of-life plugin and I love its image
templates) has an up-to-date method for searchable tables, although I've
found an older macro that's simpler to use.

The TW filters are nowhere as complete or intuitive as Evan's work. Square
root anyone?

I made a nutrition tracking app using Evan's tools:

http://nutrition-database.tiddlyspot.com/

It uses the nutrition database from the USDA. I was able to track four
major nutrients for my own health program. (calories, carbs, fiber, and
potassium).

I'm not sure if even now it would be possible to do that with TW filters.

[tw5] Re: How can I activate the vim mode using the CodeMirror plugin with Tiddlywiki?

2020-07-28 Thread 'Mark S.' via TiddlyWiki
Unfortunately, the method you use to get plugins for node isn't as
convenient. You need to make entries in your tiddlywiki.info file to
activate the plugins.

Once you have the plugins installed, you need to go into your
configuration, click on the codemirror tab, and select "vim" as your
keyboard mapping. After that a green block cursor will appear to show that
you're in Vim mode. You will probably also want to configure your keyboard
shortcuts if you are addicted to using "escape" to change modes.

[tw5] Re: Keyboard Widget Issue

2020-07-28 Thread JD
Hi Stobot! Have you found a solution?

*This works for me...*
\define newtiddlername() $(mytitle)$ $(now)$
\define addnewtiddler() *<$vars
mytitle=>*<$action-createtiddler
$basetitle=<>/>**

<$keyboard key="enter" actions=<>>
<$edit-text tiddler="$:/temp/mytitle" tag="input" default=""/>
<$button actions=<>>
Add

That is, moving <$vars> widget to nearest possible place where it will be
used...

*With these previous code*
<$keyboard key="enter" actions=<>>
<$edit-text tiddler="$:/temp/mytitle" tag="input" default=""/>
<$vars mytitle=>
<$button actions=<>>
Add

The button will use the <> that is already declared... While the
keyboard is trying to use the same variable -- however, it's not declared
yet "above" it!

*But*! moving <$vars> "above" <$keyboard> means that with every key press,
<$vars> has to recompute (don't know the exact terms / mechanism here),
refreshing its contents, taking away the focus from all inside it,
including <$text-edit>...

So, moving <$vars> inside <> means that as long as
<> isn't being ran, <> won't recompute, won't
refresh that part of the DOM

Hopefully someone can explain all these better for me lol ! I am so bad at
this

Hey guys,

I am new here and the world of tiddlys. I am enjoying a lot with the
idea of just one file with unlimited customizations. I shall go ahead to
put my use case and the queries, I hope you guys can help me out.
1. *About me*: engineer; knows basic programming, can learn too;
currently preparing for an exam - that required me to set up notes (and
revise them). My subject of study as of now is Anthropology.
2.* Use Case: *As I said, I need to prepare notes. The topics are
referenced to and from from many topics and are a bit dynamic at times
(current developments etc.). Also, I needed it to be a bit reasy to revise
later (or Spaced repetition maybe).
3.
*The TiddlerWikis Experience: *

- I was searching for a note taking app; Went on to find Notion,
Obsidian, RemNotes and TiddlyWiki.
 - Notion - Online; Data policies; a bit difficult to keep track
on; interface is turnoff. (For me) (Was not sure of exports either)
 - Obsidian - everything seemed good. I invested a lot of time
too. but was only on desktop. I work on iPad too (atleast read). Too
many
 different .md files to handle.
 - RemNotes - I liked this one thouroughly. It has Spaced
repetetion in itself free at the moment, decent interface, and Roam
like.
But before finding it, I fell in love with the Stroll TiddlerWiki
and now I
 have a dilemma.
 - TIddlerWiki - I found it somewhere in the Obsidian forum (a
shout of thanks to that user). Felt incredible for its simplicity
and the
open source nature. People collaborating for something this great.
The
collaboration amongst humans is what I am studying in Anthropology,
so.
Anyway, I played around tiddly for a while. Tried to host it,
plugins from
the dynalist toolkit list, and many things.

- The tiddlerwiki I started using was Stroll. It had backlinking,
and its something I was looking for. Then, I tried importing some
plug-ins
of my interest. eg. TiddlyMaps (despite warnings by the Stroll
developer),
Leaflets for embedding maps (required for me or I can manage with
images
(but maps cl! :p). I tried a simple flowchart too.
 - The problem: TiddlerMap is interfereing with Stroll. I
wanted to keep it a bit smaller in the sidebar itself? Is it
possible??

4. The queries:

- Suggestion for the Tiddlywik to use. eg. Stroll, TiddlyRoam,
Drift (my new favourite).
 - For now I am building on Drift (I found it this morning and I

very cool Stories plugin

[tw5] Re: [New Here] A hello and the set of questions!

2020-07-28 Thread JD
Oh wow, I'd like to mess around with that wiki containing those cool mix of
plugins, maybe help with an edition containing those as recently they've
become popular.. But I understand it's your data and privacy!

I'm thinking actually of multiple sidebars now... another button with
another sidebar to toggle... where the second one can be configured to not
affect the story river width (of course this can be an option that can be
integrated into Mono.theme)

With that kind of solution (multiple sidebars), however, one can be lists
(narrower, can affect story river width/position), and the other can
contain wider stuff (won't affect story river)... where their toggles are
both always present ... (just throwing around an idea i might actually
build around lol)

JD,
I did change the Sidebar width to 500px or even more, but it messes up
my Drift setup. It kind of worked okayish with stroll because it had bigger
width by default on the left. It messed up when I had two column enabled.
There was a work around provided by Dave (created Stroll), where we fix the
Map window fixed with sidebar. I think I will try that with drift too (I
just remembered the tweak -_-)!

Thanks :)

Thanks Mat,

 - I think the size is fine with me if it goes around 20MB max maybe,
because I am using gdrive and greater sizes might cause me troubles. 60,000
 is cool.
 - Yes, I saw the TiddlySpot. Its basically the same website, but I
couldn't find a way to upload my version on it.

PS: I am pondering on a new name, thanks to you :p. How about Prestige? ;p

Hey JD,
By saying exact method, you mean the GDrive/TiddlyDrive/TiddloidLite

Btw, I am still not able to setup TiddlySpot. Lets see.
I tried setting up GitHub Saver(attached) too with personal access

If you're on a variety of platforms, then a hodgepodge of saving techniques
is pretty normal. With firefox and chrome you could, in theory, use the
default save mechanism everywhere. But it's not as convenient. With
tiddlyserver, you could have all your devices save to one central computer.

If you have specific questions, such as how to use stroll with TiddlyMaps,
then you should probably post them as separate questions so people with
specific knowledge of those entities will notice.

Have fun!

On the list of this tab, the last one is "Sidebar width", maybe the value

How big is a web page, because that is what TW "is"? And, perhaps more
importantly, how long does it take to load it? Depends. But you should
avoid filling it with big images or other stuff that adds directly to the
files code. Instead link to the stuff. (Images can for example be directly
shown by means of the _canonical_uri field.) I think I recall people having
files the size of 12 MB without any problem. Regular computer or super
computer, I have no idea. And, I think Jeremy (the lead TW developer) has
mentioned tests with 60.000 tiddlers without any problem.

Yeah, the link I shared is just a "shell" with an iframe showing the
underlying tiddlyspot site. Tiddlyspot has been working reliably for over a
decade but the host doesn't update it anymore so the original front page
doesn't cater for TW5.

2020-07-28 Thread JD
Hello! I Actually have nothing to say but that we are using almost the
exact same saving methods across devices!

I find this a bit of a hassle when in situations where my work environment
changes multiple times in a day (commute an hour: edit on mobile, have some
coffee: edit on laptop, had an idea at work: edit on mobile again because
of laptop restrictions at work... when management tightens on mobile use
even while on breaks, I resort to tiddlyspot).

So, if you encounter a saving method across devices that are better than
what we have now, please do share! It'll save my life.

And, welcome to TW !

[tw5] Re: [PLUGIN] hello, presenting NTFS22 (New Tiddler From Search for TW5.1.22), with ability to specify title and tags

2020-07-28 Thread JD
Thank you, Saq!

Wow, that sounds really cool! I don't really use task managers (not just
because of their complexity, but...) because of the many UI bits that make
me want to find a way to *use *said bits, or *hide *them...

Using a text field that'll serve like a command line, but will allow for
some fancy interfacing, will be wonderful.

It's like writing "Buy oranges tomorrow but only if you have 4 left" and
not needing to expand on that, letting the program interpret that on its
own (of course, I want to *customize* said program)...

Hope you can share yours soon!

@jd Note that the pre-release for 5.1.23 has keyboard handling for the
sidebar search. You may wish to verify that it doesn't clash with your
keyboard handling. It may, since keyboard widgets do not propagate events.

[tw5] Re: [PLUGIN] hello, presenting NTFS22 (New Tiddler From Search for TW5.1.22), with ability to specify title and tags

2020-07-28 Thread JD
Hi Tony!

Thank you so much! And yeah, v5.1.22 is magical! I am loving all the native
things I can do with it now!

Also, thanks to your idea, I have updated NTFS22 and streamlined the code a
bit. Previously, the NTFS22 sidebar search is a *clone *of the core sidebar
search, wrapped in <$keyboard> widgets that will execute a macro on the
search string. That was because I wanted to inject the "+" button inside,
for positioning purposes.

Now I just did away with the "+" button so I can fully transclude the core
sidebar search and wrap it in <$keyboard> widgets, which act like how you
describe your Search Indicators.

By the way, NTFS22 doesn't alter $:/AdvancedSearch ... It just injects
itself into the sidebar as a <$keyboard>-wrapped core sidebar search :)

Hi Mat! I'm very excited for your EditorMagic! I wish to have your feature

TW Tones,

As I do not know Spanish I wouldn't know, but trying google translate into
Danish worked better than earlier but still I had quite some laughs at
places. The writing about wrinkles sounded more like an advertisement for a
beauty product really.
I think your experience was so good because you needed translation into
English - big language, you know.
To be honest I think I understood more guestimating the Spanish, than from
the Danish translation LOL.

@souk21 @jd suggest that CP make the original string from the input
available as a variable to the actions invoked by commands.
The last optional argument to invokeActionString is a hashmap of variables
that will be available in the actionstring.

Yes, I know they are oneman show kind of a thing, I just find them a bit
better suited for what I am about to do. I thought maybe the developer or
the user might respond to my queries here.

Regarding the other solutions: I do like RemNote but I just like the flow
of the TW5 better. Kind of, the card system make me like it even more, plus
its customizable without the loss if I take up frequent backups, which is
easy too! :P

Though I had one more question:
*How big the files become after some decent usage? Can you (Mat) or anyone
else share? *

A lot of thanks for shareing the TiddlySpot! I tried it but the TW official
page has the link to the old TiddlySpot I was having a hard time
finding a way to have my TW5 up there. I will look around the TW5
TiddlySpot :) Thanks again..

Will keep pestering!

Regards, DM

I am in love with this! This is truly amazing and exactly what I need in my
personal wiki!

I have a question (searching for the answer of which put me into creation
mode), how do I access the text of the CommandPalette input box and have it
available to an actionString - type custom command?

I wish to integrate my NTFS22 macros into this elegantly (it works by
parsing the content of a tiddler, i.e. the tiddler modified by the
searchbar). I tried looking at recently-modified tiddlers to see which one
CommandPalette modifies, but there's none!

So, for now I am using a custom command that calls up an identical-looking
input box into the screen. I feel like this is a hack because it's not
actually using Command Palette's input box like how I wish it will be able
to! Am I just missing something? hehe.

Also another idea: how about, inside a custom command tiddler, let there be
three additional fields?

 - *command-palette-popup-key* can contain a key which, when inputted,
will reveal the submenu, in context of the current custom command

 - *command-palette-popup* contains the title of the tiddler for the body
 of the submenu

 - *command-palette-hint* contains the text of the hint informing the
user of what the command does (for example)

*Sample use:*

 1. I have a custom actionString command. This will run a macro on the
text string of the input box on "ENTER"
 2. For preferences on how the text string will be parsed, I wish to
access a *preferences* page... So maybe by inputting "|" the submenu
will open and allow me to configure things

Anyway, because I don't know how to create those things natively into the
current version of Command Palette, I forked a version of my NTFS22 plugin
and it does the above things.

Please take a look here

to
see what I'm trying to accomplish. My plan is to retire this plugin once I
can do the same things with Command Palette!

Thanks again for this, and I'm looking forward to creating more permissive
custom commands!

2020-07-28 Thread Saq Imtiaz
@JD very neat.

I do something similar in an unfinished task manager plugin I use,
including trying to parse shorthand for dates into a date field.

Example:
Cleanup task manager #plugin and share #todo tom
where "tom" gets parsed as tomorrow's date. Or shorthand like "mon" for
first coming monday or "in 2 days" or "ev day" for every day.

I haven't found the time to finish the natural language parser though.

2020-07-28 Thread Mat
Indeed a nice idea to make the search field also be a kind of editor. If
you didn't see it, I made rQuickTid a
few years back. It would be neat if there was a merge between NTFS and
(something like) rQuickTid, i.e a single line input field that serves as
search AND, if e.g enter is pressed, it expands into a multiline editor and
the initial line is interpreted as the new tiddler title where additional
tags and text can be added.

Hi there DummyMe (...sorry, but right away I have to say I don't like your

degree, collectively develops it. Stroll and TiddlyRoam are custom themes
created by a single individual. I'm sure it's great but most(?) of us are
not very familiar with it. In the longer run, it possibly influences the
direction of TW because it does have a lot of traction so "the core team"
should consider if there's something things in it that are of general
interest. But as it is, those themes are a one/few man show.

How to use TiddlyMaps without much trouble?

Again, TiddlyMap is a one man creation, albeit much more mature than the
previously mentioned ones. So if they are currently not compatible, it does
makes sense to ask the community because maybe someone did solve it, but I
think you see the problem - i.e neither of these plugins are the common
denominator in the community. Add to that that they're quite complex
creations so it is unlikely that someone who is *not a user* of them will
immerse themselves for the sake of solving your specific needs. But who
knows ;-)

I have limited time though. I want to be able to start putting in notes
> without altering the setup once done.

As you've noted, TW is infinitely adaptable. If your needs are covered by
some other ready made product then perhaps that is a better choice because
this adaptability subtly encourages constant tweaking - at least in my
case. There is of course a bias here on the forum; the people that *"I've
used the one and same TW since the Carter administration and never had to
tweak it"*... well, they don't need to hang out here. There is no direct
way of knowing how many people use TW or what they use it for (because TW
totally respects integrity).

How to edit the wiki from multiple devices? iPad, Phone and Laptop?

There are many options. My personal favourite is to use TiddlySpot *set up
via this site*: http://tiddlywiki5.tiddlyspot.com/
It is not a https service and it is not protected by million dollars of
latest technology but TiddlySpot is a service that has served as a
cornerstone for the community for whoever wants a simple way to host a TW
online. Since you're only going to store study notes, as opposed to state
secrets and bank account information, then I'd recommend it. You can always
transfer the wiki later on if you want some self hosted sophisticated
solution.

Re: [tw5] [PLUGIN] hello, presenting NTFS22 (New Tiddler From Search for TW5.1.22), with ability to specify title and tags

2020-07-28 Thread JD
Hi Diego!

Thank you so much for directing me to this! This is absolutely amazing!

But after playing with it for a while (and deciding to have it on
mainstay), I gave up trying to build a command that will create for me the
sort of tiddlers I create (customized journals with a location field and
with text included)

Anyway, while CommandPalette doesn't have this yet, I created a fork of
NTFS22 that integrates into CommandPalette as a command (also as an
always-available tiddler creation tool)

NTFS22 on CommandPalette

Thanks!

Hi everyone!

I missed being here. I hope you're all doing well during these hard
times!

I updated my *NTFS* plugin with some added features. Mainly, the
ability to set some fields while creating the tiddler from the sidebar
searchbar.

For example, the search term:
It's cloudy today #dreaming of fish #notes &Today's thought

Will create the following tiddler:
Title: Today's thought
Tags: dreaming of fish notes
Text: It's cloudy today

This plugin also accommodates the creation of journal tiddlers.

The demo and plugin page is here:

Take care, everyone!

[tw5] [New Here] A hello and the set of questions!

2020-07-28 Thread Dummy ME
Hey guys,

I am new here and the world of tiddlys. I am enjoying a lot with the idea
of just one file with unlimited customizations. I shall go ahead to put my
use case and the queries, I hope you guys can help me out.
1. *About me*: engineer; knows basic programming, can learn too; currently
preparing for an exam - that required me to set up notes (and revise them).

 - Notion - Online; Data policies; a bit difficult to keep track on;
interface is turnoff. (For me) (Was not sure of exports either)
 - Obsidian - everything seemed good. I invested a lot of time too.
but was only on desktop. I work on iPad too (atleast read). Too many
 different .md files to handle.
 - RemNotes - I liked this one thouroughly. It has Spaced repetetion
in itself free at the moment, decent interface, and Roam like. But before
finding it, I fell in love with the Stroll TiddlerWiki and now I have a
 dilemma.
 - TIddlerWiki - I found it somewhere in the Obsidian forum (a shout
of thanks to that user). Felt incredible for its simplicity and the open
source nature. People collaborating for something this great. The
collaboration amongst humans is what I am studying in Anthropology, so.
Anyway, I played around tiddly for a while. Tried to host it, plugins
from
the dynalist toolkit list, and many things.

 - The tiddlerwiki I started using was Stroll. It had backlinking, and
its something I was looking for. Then, I tried importing some plug-ins
of
my interest. eg. TiddlyMaps (despite warnings by the Stroll
developer),
Leaflets for embedding maps (required for me or I can manage with
images
(but maps cl! :p). I tried a simple flowchart too.
- The problem: TiddlerMap is interfereing with Stroll. I wanted to
keep it a bit smaller in the sidebar itself? Is it possible??

4. The queries:

 - Suggestion for the Tiddlywik to use. eg. Stroll, TiddlyRoam, Drift (my
 new favourite).
 - For now I am building on Drift (I found it this morning and I like
it. Stroll is good too, but I like the feel, some new features and looks
of
 drift.
 - How to use TiddlyMaps without much trouble?
 - I just want a basic flow of my tiddlers. I don't want icons, I can do
fine with just a small circle with the name of the node on hover.
 - The current plugin interferes with two stories plug-in : in both
 stroll and drift.
 - Should I be using TiddlyWiki in the first place? I don't have a lot of
programming knowledge, just basics. I like to dig in though and try to
 tweak with what I know.
 - I have limited time though. I want to be able to start putting in
notes without altering the setup once done.
 - How to edit the wiki from multiple devices? iPad, Phone and Laptop?
 - Currently, I do this way:
- I have TiddlyDesktop intalled. I edit there. The folder
containing .html is synced on drive. The backup is in a separate
folder.
- Then, I have this app called TIddloidLite. Where I can open
that file from the drive itself. and even save after edit. I am happy
with
it for now.
- And in drive I had this drive extension: TiddlyDriveWhich
enabled me to edit on android earlier. But now app does better. But
that
link from the drive, I am using to edit on iPad. Safari doesn't work.
but
the app called Documents is able to do so. I dont know why...?
- So basically, is there a way I can streamline all of this? or
this is fine?
- I had tried github, tiddlyspot things too. But went too complex
for me.
 - Also, I liked this tool, TiddlyRemember, I did everything but
couldn't get it setup. If those guys are here, can they help me a bit?

Thanks for reading this long post. A long and selfish post maybe.

Regards,
DummyMe

[tw5] Export tiddlers as Zip file (from single HTML)

2020-07-28 Thread bimlas
Dear all,

Before switching to a new note-taking program, we want to make sure that if
we don't like it, we can easily export our notes from it. In TiddlyWiki, we
have the option to bulk export in Advanced Search -> Filter, but there is
no option to return our notes as separate text files (just as Node.js saves
them).

In TiddlyWiki prerelease, the JSZip plugin

can create a Zip archive from multiple tiddlers. Combining this with the
existing ".tid file" exporter template becomes a bulk tiddler exporter.

I have attached a demo version, import it into the
https://tiddlywiki.com/prerelease/ , go to $:/AdvancedSearch -> Filter and
write a custom filter expression into the entry
("[!is[system]search[hello]limit[5]]" for example without quotes).

*ATTENTION*! Don’t export too many tiddlers at once because the TiddlyWiki
window will not respond to anything until the export is complete.

The way I understand it the way we would do this is to change the settings with
the navigator widget in the same way you need to consider for the OT.

Yes in many ways it is simple to do as I suggested but somtimes getting it to
be really simple is quite complex ;)

TW Tones, thanks for your insights on the navigator widget.

Isn't that pretty simple to make? Just save the by
appending it to some "list of storylists" and, for a UI, use a selectwidget
to switch among them. Not sure what it has to do with the navigatorwidget,
but anyway.

Similarly if we could build tools to swap, copy, share and change lists, we

Regardless, it seems this doesn't really have to do with the

[tw5] CSV table

2020-07-28 Thread Ankit Mittal
Hi,

I am trying to understand how the $$$text/csv parser works and as far as I
can see its using the underlying Csvparser function in the javascript
- $:/core/modules/parsers/csvparser.js

I changed the line

var columns = lineText.split(",");

To

var columns = lineText.split("#");

In order to see if instead of comma another character will yield a quick
table but that did not work. What am i doing wrong and how can I achieve
the intended result?

My motivation is this... as a programme manager, I rely on lot of excel
files flowing in and from time to time I take snapshots of information and
put as table on a tiddler. Problem is to convert that data into wiki table
requires me to first paste the data on notepad++ then search and replace
all tabs with | and then manually add | at begining and end of the lines...

I found the wonderful plugin by Joshua
https://joshuafontany.github.io/TW5-JsonMangler/ where he mentions using
CSV widget to parse the "character (not comma)" separated value data and a
quick test on demo shows that tables can be created instantaneously by
pasting data copied from excel into tiddler of type application/csv...
however when I tried to invoke application by means of $$$application/csv
it did not work.

I will really appreciate some guidance on how to make it work.

[tw5] Re: How can I activate the vim mode using the CodeMirror plugin with Tiddlywiki?

2020-07-28 Thread tony
Steps, just tested:

 1. Download empty.html from https://tiddlywiki.com/#GettingStarted
 2. Open the $:/ControlPanel tiddler
 3. Click the plugins tab then Get more plugins button
 4. Search for codemirror
 5. Click install button for *CodeMirror*: CodeMirror editor and *CodeMirror
Keymap Vim*: Keymap compatible with Vim for CodeMirror
 6. Save and refresh when prompted by banner dialog
 7. Open the $:/ControlPanel tiddler
 8. Click the Settings then Codemirror tab
 9. Under CodeMirror keymap select vim in the dropdown control
 10. Optional: check Enable line numbers, cuz it looks cool
 11. Save and refresh the wiki
 12. Test by creating a new tiddler and in edit mode, line numbers should
be showing as a visual indicator of success
 13. I use Ctrl-c to return to normal mode

Have fun!

Best,
tony

Re: [tw5] Re: How to generate list of missing tiddlers, sorted by most references

2020-07-28 Thread bimlas
Not a perfect solution, but you can relatively easily create tables in the
Javascript console that you can sort by columns by clicking on the header.

*SAVE YOUR WIKI BEFORE TRYING OUT*: Although it is just a query and does
not change anything, it is better to prevent trouble.

Open the DeveloperTools console in the wiki window (right click anywhere on
the page -> inspect element -> console tab) and issue this command:

let results = [];
$tw.utils.each($tw.wiki.getMissingTitles(), (tiddler) => {
 const backlinks = $tw.wiki.getTiddlerBacklinks(tiddler).length;

 results.push([
tiddler,
backlinks
 ]);
});
console.table(results);

In another example, we can print a list of tiddlers, which can be sorted by
the number of links and backlinks:

let results = [];
$tw.wiki.forEachTiddler((tiddler) => {
 const links = $tw.wiki.getTiddlerLinks(tiddler).length;
 const backlinks = $tw.wiki.getTiddlerBacklinks(tiddler).length;

 // Filter unnecessary results
 if(links === 0 && backlinks === 0) return;

 results.push([
tiddler,
links,
backlinks
 ]);
});
console.table(results);

Because the table can display up to 1000 rows, it's a good idea to filter
out irrelevant results (such as those with no links and backlinks).

2020-07-28 Thread Saq Imtiaz
In your TiddlyWiki, go to settings, Control Panel, Plugins.
Click on Get more plugins and then Open Plugin library.

You can install all the official plugins and their addons here.
