[tw5] Nice mention of tiddlywiki

I was trying to find out more about the browser Vivaldi when I found this:

I couldn't agree more with the conclusionvery practical for users of
multiple computers and OS'es.

[tw5] Re: TWEXE Executable TiddlyWiki's

2020-08-12 Thread 'Mark S.' via TiddlyWiki
Yes, I don't see it as being too practical either, especially because it
takes about 5 minutes to set up each file you want to run.

It does suggest something that would be useful (well, maybe) -- node.js for
single TW files. So you'd run like:

tiddlywiki-s myfile.html -p 8090 -f mydir

and immediately (no delay) it would run on port 8090 and use directory
./mydir to serve up any supporting static files. Something that works like
tiddlyserver, but without the complicated setup.

But I suppose having 20+ methods of saving is probably enough ;-)

Thanks Tony - I actually want to list the tiddler just not display it as a
link since in theory I am already viewing that tiddler. Plus showing the
person in plain text acts as a hint to where in the birth-order the person
is.

Here is a somplified version which excludes the current tiddler

\define siblings()
''Siblings''
<$list filter="[all[]famc{!!famc}] -[]">
<$link>{{!!caption}}

untested

It uses the short form of fieldname[fieldvalue] to test a fields value, and
gets this value from the field in the current tiddler.

Select the Shadows tab in the Advanced search

That is where you will find it.

It is a tiddler defined in the core plugin and until it is edited it is
"only" a shadow tiddler.

[tw5] Siblings Macro

2020-08-12 Thread amreus

I have a little macro that lists the siblings of a person tiddler.
Simplified, it looks like so:

\define siblings()
''Siblings''
<$list filter="[has[famc]field:famc{!!famc}]">
<$link>{{!!caption}}

\end

This lists all tiddlers that have a matching `famc` field, including the
current tiddler.

How can I make it not link to the current tiddler?

2020-08-12 Thread TW Tones
Stobot,

I have only installed single file wikis as aspx files on top of sharepoint,
which is what teams is built on. The only way I know of to get a node
server running in the Microsoft cloud would be to have it hosted inside the
Microsoft azure CPU and Processing (like amazon hosting services).
Specifically with node.

Once you have a single file wiki working and saving on SharePoint you
should be able to iframe it as you can elsewhere.

Arguably you could use a synchronised one drive with your desktop/file
server to store the the node tiddlywiki's but you still need a computer
running the node server to serve the URL.

Happy to discuss further.

[tw5] Re: TWEXE Executable TiddlyWiki's

2020-08-12 Thread 'Mark S.' via TiddlyWiki
Be sure to mark the download as executable (which I assume you must have
done, but it's something like chmod 744 twexe .

>From terminal directory where the dowload (and your target html file) is:

./twexe myfile.html

(long, long wait while it builds)

Then run "./myfile".

It will open up an instance in your browser (hopefully) running on
127.0.0.1:8080 (or the first port after 8080 that is free)

It makes lots of backup files, that you will need to clean up eventually.
It makes those files, even though I didn't specify the -k option.

BTW, just as a very simple solution -- I've found it helpful in this
context to use the "eye" tool in the toolbar to have a tiddler open
simultaneously for viewing and editing; this works if you're editing the
same tiddler where you'll see the changes. If you're editing one tiddler

with the solutions pointed to by Mark S.

Although the description says "for new tiddlers", it also seems to apply to
existing ones. If you set the
option to "text" and then edit an existing tiddler, the full content of the
tiddler's text input area is
automatically selected as soon as you open the editor.

[tw5] Re: [ Streams ] : feedback and issues

2020-08-12 Thread Saq Imtiaz
Hi Keelan,

Thank you for the detailed feedback and for explaining the context behind
your usage. It is very helpful to get a different perspective on things and
to know that others find it useful.

My TiddlyWiki fiddling is something I do on my own time in addition to two
fairly demanding day jobs. While it is enjoyable for me, I must admit that
I carry over from my professional life the desire to be productive and
efficient in what little time I do have for it. Feedback goes a long way
towards knowing what to focus my energy and time on.

The combination of the Stories plugin and Streams is what I had in mind
when I worked on the drag and drop support within Streams. I haven't really
mentioned this anywhere so I am glad to hear you realized the possiblities
in this. I think there is need of a bespoke customized TiddlyWiki edition
around Streams (and other plugins) to fully utilize its potential. For
example, you could if so desired, get the backlinks in Stroll to reference
only the root node of each backlink instead of each node. Similarly, the
search could be adapted to better integrate with Streams tiddlers as well.
Unfortunately that isn't something I have the time to devote to myself.

I do have a few questions for you if have the time:

   1. Have you encountered any issues or pain/choke points in your workflow
   with Streams?
   2. Are there any features you find yourself wishing that Streams had?
   3. Overall in your larger workflow in TiddlyWiki, not just related to
Streams, what if any are the roadblocks that slow you down or cause
   difficulties?
   4. Are your notes mostly plain text with formatting (bold, italics etc)
or do you use a lot of macros and widgets in the actual note taking?

Thank you.

Cheers,
Saq

[tw5] Embed wiki into Microsoft Teams (BOB)

2020-08-12 Thread Stobot
Hello folks,

I'm trying to embed a wiki into Microsoft Teams and am stuck. Teams only
allows http:// addresses and I'm using BOB which is served via local ip
address like 10.1.#.#:8080. I thought I could get away with this if I made
a near-empty .aspx file (I have access to host files on SharePoint) and
then iframe the wiki in that way - but maybe you can't iframe in an address
like BOB provides either? Any thoughts?

What I hoped would work - saved as a .aspx file, tried in FireFox

[tw5] Three alias plugin, what's the difference of their design/implementation?

2020-08-12 Thread yrosgi L
The original feature I wanted was tag aliasing, such as there's a tag A,
and B is an alias of A, when add B to a tiddler, it can also find the
tiddler by search tag A.
As I see, this logic is obscure, so I try to find some available alias
plugin or system. As the result, I found these(listed as the order I found
it):

1. Mario's uni-link: https://wikilabs.github.io/editions/uni-link/
2. Mat's AliasTids: http://aliastids.tiddlyspot.com/
3. mklauber's Aliases: https://mklauber.github.io/tw5-plugins/#Aliases

It look like that they are solving the problem very similar because it is
not easy to find the difference for me.
And for this reason, it's hard to decide to use which one.

Any ideas?

Regards,

L,

[tw5] Re: [ Streams ] : feedback and issues

2020-08-12 Thread Keelan Cook
Saq,

I've been lurking in this group for a few months now, and your comment
wondering whether or not people are using Streams has pulled me out of the
shadows! I wanted to vocalize how significant this plugin has become to my
workflow.

A bit of background on my usage. I'm a professor and do a lot of research
in history and the humanities. My work requires a really good notetaking
workflow. On the other hand, I'm not even close to a programmer. So, I
gravitate toward out-of-the-box systems, and they always have pain points.

I've fiddled with TiddlyWiki off and on for several years. I've always
wanted it to work for me, because I really admire the project. But, the
ease of editing and quick note capture (as well as design aesthetics)
usually ended my attempts and sent me back to other tools. Enter Streams.

Like many others in this group, over the last 2-3 months the rise of
TiddlyWiki as a Roam alternative pulled me back into the conversation.
Dave's Stroll was instrumental in getting me back in. I stumbled on several
themes that remove distaste for the UI. And then Streams became the pièce
de résistance. Quick capture in adjustable outline form that allows for
capturing literature notes and then drafting up outlines for longer form
articles and books. I use your Stories plugin as well. I can pull up a
Stream tiddler with source notes on one side and drag and drop content into
my outline for works I'm creating. This is exactly what I've needed.

Bimlas echoed my sentiments well in this recent post concerning ways to use
TiddlyWiki: https://groups.google.com/g/tiddlywiki/c/Re11x96t-qI/m/GYuMKHx0AQAJ

I've been actively working to create my own, bespoke, note-taking
environment and I finally feel like all the pieces are there in TiddlyWiki
to do so.

So, I for one, am very interested in your continued work on Streams. It's
minimalist, unobtrusive, and powerful for a researcher. I'm happy to
provide any feedback that may be helpful to you, understanding I'm only
able to speak toward end use and not the coding aspect of it.

Thanks so much for your work on this. It's been a game changer for me, and
I've recommended it to several others in my field at this point.

@Eric as I understand it, the rememberq macro is part of an editor toolbar
button. So likely scope is the problem.

For most purpose storyTiddler should have the same value as
stream-root-title unless you're showing a stream inside a modal or a new
window.

@kebi If this still doesn't help, please post your file to facilitate

[tw5] Re: Editor height when creating a new tiddler

2020-08-12 Thread kebi
After some testing in different browsers, I can say that this is a
TiddlyDesktop bug. On normal browsers the editor height is displayed right.

[tw5] Re: Editor height when creating a new tiddler

2020-08-12 Thread Birthe C
I have experienced the same, just not with the mono theme. I tried
http://j.d.mono.tiddlyspot.com and that does not seem to have that problem.

As I wrote, I have experienced the problem before, in a lot of different
wikis with different themes. It usually happens when the wiki /my computer
gets slow. Combination of big wiki lots of tabs open in the browser...and
too little ram I think. Nevertheless If I do nothing and wait it will get
normal by itself without any clicking. It is of course only guesswork from
me, but it has happened in wikis that did not have that problem before and
not after a restart of the browser.

[tw5] Re: Convert the output of a variable to plain text

2020-08-12 Thread kebi
The wikify method itselft works, I think I'm note getting the correct
output from <> because of some loop caused by the plugin
that defines it.

[tw5] Editor height when creating a new tiddler

2020-08-12 Thread harut...@gmail.com

If I don't have any tiddler opened and I try to create a new tiddler, the
editor height is huge until I left click somewhere.

I have installed the mono theme.
What section of the Stylesheet should I edit to prevent this??

[tw5] Re: Is there a quick way to add multiple tags once?

2020-08-12 Thread JD
Hi,

You can change the text of this tiddler:
*$:/config/EditTemplateFields/Visibility/tags * to "show" (instead of
"hide")... Then when you're in edit mode, the Tags field is available for
editting. Like the list field, tags with spaces should be enclosed in
brackets, sample: TagOne [[Tag Two]]

This is probably the quickest way if we don't need a UI for it ^^,

[tw5] Re: TWEXE Executable TiddlyWiki's

2020-08-12 Thread Birthe C
It definitely looks interesting. I have looked at it several times over the
years, but never found out how to use twexe on linux. (I am using linux
Mint 20). Trying to run it, it opened an old tiddlywiki in my browser.
I had trouble seeing the video and it was far too small for me to get any
idea, what was happening. Also I find the description on the link
confusing. Do this or that and then some. Where how and when?

Is anybody using twexe on Linux? If so would you please explain how to do
it?

[tw5] Is there a quick way to add multiple tags once?

2020-08-12 Thread Zhe Lee
My situation is like this:

I want to record a installation issue about a linux software. I need to
give this tiddler tags such as : Linux, software, installation, issue
record... As your tiddlywiki become bigger, tags become more and more to
type.

Which is so many tags to type. So I want to find a way to make it eaiser.
Like some quick way to add multiple tags one time. Is there a way to make
it?
