[tw] Re: dragging stuff into tw

2018-02-27 Thread Furicle
What I found recently I didn't know, was you can 'paste' a file into TW.

e.g. with a picture open, select all, copy, change to TW, click on an empty
spot on the background and paste.

In retrospect maybe that's obvious, but it wasn't at the time :-)

[tw] "horizontal" tables?

2018-02-27 Thread Furicle

Tables with nicely formatted top rows in TW are easy

| Date | Activity |h
| Mon | Swimming |
| Tue | Sleeping |

But is there any way to make that a 'horizontal' table?

e.g. like this, but using TW text or even Markdown?

Date
Mon
Tue

Activity
Swimming
Sleeping

It's a junction - created with mklink.exe /J

I did .Name mostly because that's the way I'd do it on a linux box to
"hide" it.
Note that this worked fine with FF 57.

You are correct - I created another junction, without the . and it
resolved the issue

While it's a bit obscure to have a file name like that on Windows it's
common on MacOS and *nix - so the plugin should be capable of handling it.

Re: [tw] Drag N Drop Email (From Thunderbird)

Yes, that does sounds ideal. Auto splitting attachments, plain and html
text into into their own tiddlers so you could choose to import or discard,
very cool.

After doing a bit of reading about deserializers being part of the TW core,
it also sounds well above my current abilities. :-)

Thanks for the note, though, it proves I wasn't missing something obvious.

On 2/2/2018 3:53 AM, Jeremy Ruston wrote:

Hi furicle,

It sounds like the best solution would be create a tiddler deserializer for
the message/rfc822 format. A deserializer is a JavaScript function that
generates tiddlers given a block of text and a MIME type. The
message/rfc822 format can contain multiple blocks of content (eg, a message
and the attached images) which would be converted into separate tiddlers.

[tw] Drag N Drop Email (From Thunderbird)

2018-02-01 Thread Furicle

I put a lot of email content into my wiki, with my own notes above/below.

But I can't find a good, simple way to both retain the basic formatting,
and intersperse my own text.

Right now I'm

   - right-click → copy to clipboard → message in Thunderbird
   - open a new tiddler
   - paste
   - set the pasted material as plain text via ```

I lose colour, clickable links, pretty formatting of the headers, pretty
indentation etc

The other way I've found is to

   - save the email as HTML
   - import the html file into a tiddler
   - create a tiddler and transclude the email in

I get clickable links and formatting, but I can't edit the content of the
email or make notes inside of it without hand editing HTML

What I'd like to be able to do is just drag and drop it in.

If I do that, it creates a tiddler with a type of message/rfc822

The top half is the plain text version of the email, with mangled
formatting.
The bottom half is the html portion, displayed reasonably well.

If I could tell it to hide the plain text portion, that would save a couple
steps, but I'm still hand editing HTML when I want to intersperse things.

Can I change document types "mid tiddler" so to speak?
Or?

Any suggestions appreciated,

Furicle

[tw] Re: Newbie: 2nd Post: How to write in a Tiddly the address to a file on my computer so that clicking the link opens the file

2018-01-26 Thread Furicle
My links with spaces work fine - e.g. [[file:img/2018/file name like
this.pdf]]

I can also use relative links (skipping the c:/etc) because I keep my TWs
in the Downloads folder so even the new Firefox works fine with that.

To the OP - as pointed out, it's your browser that opens them, so it should
"just work" with most file types.

[tw] Re: Firefox 58 causing trouble or just me?

Fair enough, I should have known that.

But I kinda think it's FF 58 - I've swapped to TiddyDesktop 0.0.9 (busy
morning here, gotta keep moving) and it's working ok.

[tw] Firefox 58 causing trouble or just me?

2018-01-26 Thread Furicle
Win 10-64 , Firefox 58 , File Backups 0.3.4

Everything was fine yesterday.

This morning I try to save and the red check box doesn't clear, and the
file does not save.

So I manually save (File -> Save) and I get a file that's 26 meg instead of
5.

So I re-open Friday from a backup, edit one change and hit save, and we're
back to the same issue.

Judging by the date stamp on the Firefox app, it updated this morning, so...

Am I the only one?

[tw] Line breaks - change from Classic to TW5

2017-12-14 Thread Furicle
Simple thing, but I can't find in a quick search here.

TW Classic, in the body of a tiddler, a line feed was honoured in the html
output.
I think the mechanism was tiddler bodies were wrapped in tags

TW5 that's no longer true.

Can someone point me at the reasoning for this, and possibly a work around?
It seems jarring.

Perhaps this is better - the official docs

https://help.github.com/articles/github-flow/

and for an 'illustrated' version of that

https://guides.github.com/introduction/flow/

I can see where that's pretty intimidating for someone not used to the
tools...

[tw] Re: [TW5] Documentation Proposal (Improved Examples)

2017-12-14 Thread Furicle
I'm no Git guru, or big GitHub user for that matter.
I do use Git a bit for my sysadmin related scripts at work, some html stuff
etc.

Real GitHub people please feel free to step in as needed

The normal flow with GitHub as I understand it is this:

0 - create a GitHub account
1 - 'Clone' or copy an existing 'repository' or set of code and it's
historical info into your own account.
2 - (optional) create a 'branch' where you'll work on one concept or
feature you want to improve
3 - make the changes you want
4 - go back to the original repository and create a 'pull request' - you're
telling the repository owner you've done something they should add back
into the master set of code.
5 - discussion takes place on the comments around pull request
6 - revise changes
7 - create new pull request(?)
8 - project owner(s) merge
9 - repeat at step 2

I'm a little hazy how you keep your clone up to date with the master, and
the best way to revise pull requests.

Did that help or hurt?

Re: [tw] [TW5] Documentation Proposal (Improved Examples)

2017-12-12 Thread Furicle
Perhaps the first document that needs to be created is the one detailing
how to help with the documentation :-)

But creating a different wiki to document this one seems humorous, if
nothing else...

Tony, can you be more specific about your issues with Git/Github? Do you
think the flow won't work? or are there specific steps that need to be
clearer?

And do you see this as a 'stand alone' wiki or will it end up as part of
tiddlywiki.com ?

[tw] [ToDoNow] Set a Date Completed

2017-11-24 Thread Furicle
I really like the look of the ToDoNow plug in. I think it improves on my
current set up quite a bit.

But I'm not in love with the idea of 'archiving' done items. Seems like a
wasted click.

What I'd rather have, is a field(?) for date completed as well as the built
in date created and last modified.

That would make two things possible:

1 - The completed items list could be controlled by the same 'today - this
week' chooser
2 - you could add build a date picker so you could see on any given day
what was created, modified and finished

Is there a simple way to modify the code that fires when you mark it
complete, to add a field 'completed' and give it today's date? I guess it
would have to delete that field on an 'uncheck'

[tw] Re: A Rant

2017-11-15 Thread Furicle
Please note - my message was mostly about how tough it is to make this
thing work if you aren't a javascript dev.
Has this been discussed on this list before?

There are no instructions for Windows.
Re-reading carefully I guess it's implied by the line "or directly from
nodejs.org"
The rest of the page is a set of command line instructions, with specific
notes for Mac or Linux in certain places.
Not something you'd expect to work on Windows.

I'll consider this set up - my wiki is somewhat confidential, I'm not
thrilled with making it accessible from the network.

What I want is file based - it's somewhat confidential - making it
available on the network (and adding a server to my laptop) is not
something I'd prefer. On the other hand, a cloud service (other than one
of the 'big three' that I trust to be reasonably secure and reliable) isn't
appropriate

The easiest net-based solution is TiddlyServer (IMO).
>

supposed to be the 'easy concise' installation instructions.
Install node, install a server package, edit a json file, click on somthing
or other that might start the server, then use a special bookmark to save?
Why not use m4 macros too?

Savetiddlers has a nice banner saying "don't use me"

Thank you for that link to Mario's plug in - I hadn't looked at that
before. It seems like the solution I want, except I have to keep my wiki
in the downloads folder. Not ideal, but possibly workable.

[tw] A Rant

2017-11-15 Thread Furicle
I am having a ridiculously complicated time trying to use TW. I think a
new user will never jump through all these hoops.

Firefox is forcing the end of TiddlyFox, fine. There's a great Getting
Started doc with all the options to replace it.
But darned if I can get any of them I've tried to work

   - TW in the Sky Dropbox
  - either doesn't work, or I can't figure out how to work it. It
authenticates, I've got a folder in Dropbox/Apps, but I can't get it to
use
  my tw. Really needs documentation.

   - TW Desktop
  - no installer, just a zip folder - where do you put it, exactly?
Does it matter? How am I supposed to know I launch something labelled
  nw.exe?
  - can't see the screens half the time. Opens randomly hidden or off
  screen, most of the time
  - Muck around and get the windows to actually be visible, and get it
to open and display one of my tiddlers, and it still won't save?
   - Node.js
  - No Windows instructions

I could go on, but I think I've made my point.

*I'm not dumping on anyone. I'm grateful for the work done to date. I'm
not owed anything. I'm not demanding a darned thing.*

I'm a reasonably technically advanced current TW classic user, and I can
not, after spending quite some time at, move forward.

I'm trying to say this community really needs to take a look at usability
if it wants to be anything more than a niche product
