[tw5] Looking for a simple and mobile friendly wiki for a public website

2021-03-18 Thread IvanPsy
Greetings,
I want to create a public wiki about my professional topics, and I'm
looking for the right platform.

The features I'm looking for my wiki are:
- easy to manage both on desktop and mobile (iPad, iPhone)
- easy backlinks, since I'm the only editor
- nice image and video embedding
- a way to highlight some pages such as About Me, Contacts, Resources,
etc...
- fast note creation and upgrading both on desktop and mobile: since some
notes will be long format and others just atomic notes, a complex creation
process would eat too much time (one of the reasons why I'm not considering
Wordpress)

I see many Tiddlywiki users have converted their Tiddlywiki to a website,
but how easy is it for a non-Tech guy?

Of course other wiki suggestions are welcome.

Ok Tones sounds tricky.
I evaluate, since autocompletion on backlinks is also important to me ;-)

[tw5] Autocompletion when transcluding: how to?

2020-12-21 Thread IvanPsy
Greetings,

Is there a way to have the autocompletion feature when transcluding a
Tiddler into another one?

I already use autocompletion for backlinks, but I also use transclusion a
lot, and always remebering the exact name of the Tiddler is unhandy.

Re: [tw5] TiddlyWiki keeps offloading on iPhone and iPad: any solution?

2020-12-21 Thread IvanPsy
Thank you all for your kind replies.

I'll refer to the Quine group, though I think it's just how iCloud works.

As for the "insane" weight of my TiddlyWiki, TW Tones you're right: I used
to embed pictures and PDFs at the beginning.
Now I changed strategy, and planning to remove those Tiddlers.

[tw5] TiddlyWiki keeps offloading on iPhone and iPad: any solution?

2020-12-17 Thread IvanPsy
Greetings,

I store TiddlyWiki on iCloud.
Though the syncing works like a charm on iPad and iPhone (I use Quine 2),
the file keeps offloading from my device.
I mean: each time I go back to my TiddlyWiki, I have to wait for the file
to be downloaded again Bedford being able to open it.
So I can’t rely on TiddlyWiki for fast reference.

A scenario:
I need a fast information stored on my TiddlyWiki, I open up the
iPhone...but I have to wait for the file to download.

It’s 24Mb right now, so it’s pretty fast (some seconds), but what happens
when the file gets bigger?
I need for the file to stay at my disposal on my devices.

It keeps me from investing on TiddlyWiki.

Any solution or workaround?

Thank you!

[tw5] TiddlyWiki for ToDo managment: need tips + use cases and best practices

2020-12-07 Thread IvanPsy
Greetings,

My next step with TiddlyWiki is about ToDos: my goal is to ditch third Apps
when possible, in order to have all in one place...but with care...

So I’m looking for use cases and best practices to get inspiration from.

Plus I need some help in:

- recurring todos: how do you manage them?
i.e.: I make the bill each month to the same Companies, each Company has
its own format and workflow.
With Things 3, I set a recurrent monthly project per each Company, so each
month the App shows me the todos chain related to the bill.
How do I may replicate it on TW?

- todos with a due date and a different deadline
i.e.: I have a work to be done.
Deadline: 31th December, but I plan the work on 15th December.

- several todos related to the same project, but with different deadlines
Any best practice to have different todos with different deadlines, but
also to show the whole project and the chain of the todos?

Any thought or examples about them?

Thank you!

Re: [tw5] Embedding images and PDFs from local folders: how to?

2020-11-30 Thread IvanPsy
Thank you for your kind replies.

I'm not a tech so I didn't want to mess my Tiddly, so I installed
the External Attachments Plugin: is it enough for PDFs and images?
Now I'm under Firefox, I drag and drop an image, but the menus and options
are the usual: Tiddly asks me to import the image.
How do I attach external images with this plugin?

I've read your links, but I see them somewhat confusing.

Waiting for the new release, then!

How do I upgrade, considering I'm using Stroll?

How do I upgrade the other plugins?

Is drag and drop of the main TiddlyWiki and of the other plugins enough?

[tw5] Embedding images and PDFs from local folders: how to?

2020-11-29 Thread IvanPsy
Greetings,

since I heavily rely on images and PDFs, but I don't want to overload my
wiki, I'd like to keep such files external, maybe under a subfolder, and
embed such files in my Tiddlers when needed.

Is it possible?
How?

Another thing: is it possibile to indicate a relative path to that
subfolder, so that I can keep the structure if I move the whole wiki and
its subfolders?
How?

Thank you!

[tw5] Re: Help configuring Timimi and autosave

2020-11-22 Thread IvanPsy
Thank you for your kind reply.
I understand the importance of a backup, so I'll follow your suggestion
about having a separate folder for it.

But let me explain my scenario:
- I'm on Mac and edit my Tiddly, then I save the changes
- I open up the Tiddly on my iPhone (by using Quine 2), but how do I know
which file to open up in order to go on with my work?
Is the main file the Tiddly I have to open up bro go on with my work?

My goal is to have the main file always updated to the latest change, so I
don't have to think about which file I have to open when I switch device or
go back to work after a break, and forget about the backups files that are
stored in another folder.

Don't know if it makes sense. I explain the best as possible since English
is not my native language :-)

[tw5] Help configuring Timimi and autosave

2020-11-21 Thread IvanPsy
Thanks to this community I installed Timimi on Firefox and made it work.

Now, when I save the Tiddly Wiki, I find many backups of the same Tiddly.
But I want just one save as I find all of this confusing.

So my need is:
When I save my Tiddly no copies are saved.
My Tidly is always saved on the same file, so I find only one file in the
folder (I open Tiddly on iPhone, iPad and Mac, so having several backups
confuse me since I can't remember which one was the last one).

I checked the settings in Timimi, but I wasn't able to understand how to
configure properly.

Any tips?

[tw5] Autosave on Firefox: how to?

2020-11-03 Thread IvanPsy
Greetings,

I've installed the timimi extension on my Firefox.

When I edit an old toddler or start a new one, when I finish the edit and
click the tick, the "Saved Wiki" poop up appears.
In fact, no edit was saved: if I close the tab and go back to my TiddlyWiki
the edit isn't there.

How do I activate the autosave feature on Firefox?

I don't mind to have an online solution since I keep all local and sync
with iCloud (I'm on Mac).

Thank you!

[tw5] Concerns from a non-tech newbie

2020-10-29 Thread IvanPsy
Greetings,

I'm evaluating TiddlyWiki over other txt based solutions (such as Obsidian
and similar), so I have some questions.
My apologies if they are non-realistic questions: I'm not a tech :-)

- How big can be a TiddlyWiki before slowing down or causing troubles when
opening it?
I have some Gb on Apple Notes, since I store also images and long PDFs.
My fear is storing all my stuff on a single file may slow down or causing
other troubles.

- TiddlyWiki runs on HTML and Java, is it?
What if the browsers discontinued them in the future, (as it happened to
Flash)?
Is it a realistic scenario?
I'm always looking for an exit plan.
And: what if I wanted to export the tiddlers in different txt (or other
formats) files?

- Can I have the same TiddlyWiki open on different windows at the same time
without having the two versions conflict each other?
I'm used to work on many projects at the same time, so I usually have many
windows of Apple Notes open at the same time.
How about TiddlyWiki?

Thank you!

[tw5] Re: Any tip on how to manage academic papers PDFs?

2020-10-29 Thread IvanPsy
Thank you all for your kind replies!

I see you're talking about putting so much text (possibly the whole
document) so that I'm able to search for it later.

Fortunately most fo the PDFs are academic papers, so they are text I can
easily copy paste.

As for the images I usually use Google Keep that has a very good OCR.

[tw5] Any tip on how to manage academic papers PDFs?

2020-10-16 Thread IvanPsy
Greetings,

I was away for some time in order to test Apple Notes for note taking and
storing the informations.

What I like of Apple Notes is that I can take an academic paper, I write
some thoughts as text, I save the PDF of the research inside the note.
Then Apple note indexes the text of the PDF, so when I search for a word it
searches inside the PDFs too.

The same for images and screenshots.

How can I replicate such feature on TiddlyWiki?
Is it possible?
Or: any "lateral" tip to manage PDFs and screenshots the same way without
ditching TiddlyWiki?

After some testing I find TiddlyWiki is nearly perfect, but I really need
such feature.

Thank you!

[tw5] Re: Issue with Quine 2 - HELP

2020-08-16 Thread IvanPsy
UPDATE...

I downloaded the wiki on my PC, then uploaded again on iCloud (on another
folder): I’m still not able to open the wiki on Quine 2.

I downloaded the wiki on my PC, added a new tiddler, then uploaded again on
iCloud (on another folder): now I’m able to open the wiki Quine 2.

[tw5] Issue with Quine 2 - HELP

2020-08-16 Thread IvanPsy
It worked until some minutes ago.

Now I added a new tiddler, saved it, closed the App.
Then I opened up the App again, loaded the HTML file, but I get only a
blank screen.

I uninstalled and downloaded the App again, but the issue persists.

Quine 2, the iPhone and the iPad are all updated to the last version.

Any idea to fix it?

Thank you!

[tw5] Re: How do you manage bibliography and other citations?

2020-08-16 Thread IvanPsy
Hi Keenan thank you for the great reply.

As for the Stream plugin, do you mean this:
https://saqimtiaz.github.io/sq-tw/bullets.html ?

I think I’ll test it on a second TiddlyWiki: is there any chance adding
this plugin would break the wiki?
It says it’s a prototype.

And: what if I wanted to delete the plugin in the future? Will I lose the
structure and break the wiki?
I see each tiddler has a string of text as title: I think I shouldn’t
change it, is it?
My concern is I will have a wiki with hundreds of tiddlers with such
strange name, so that I’ll not be able to refer to them in the future (as
the title won’t be a human sentence).

How do I add the plugin?
Is dragging and dropping the $:/plugins/sq/bullets
<https://saqimtiaz.github.io/sq-tw/bullets.html#%24%3A%2Fplugins%2Fsq%2Fbullets>
 text
on my TiddlyWiki enough?

[tw5] How do you manage bibliography and other citations?

2020-08-13 Thread IvanPsy
Hi all,

I started with TiddlyWiki as my second brain, and I love it!

Now...I read lots of papers and other research, articles and blog posts.
When I extract the information and put them in my TiddlyWiki I lose all the
references, as all is mixed inside my second brain: in a single tiddler
there may be information extracted from several articles, and a single
article may be split into several tiddlers.

But I need to get back to the reference when I write my articles for the
public, so that I can cite who said what.

How do you manage it?
Any example?

Thank you!

2020-08-11 Thread IvanPsy
Hi Tones thank you for your reply.

Well your suggestions are a bit too technical for me, so I keep note of them
for the future.

I already know in the future I’m going to take my website and “convert” to a
TiddlyWiki...but I’ll pone a new thread when the day will come 😉

Thank you for your reply!

I installed Quine 2 and started my (first?) TiddlyWiki: a personal knowledge
system.
I chose the Stroll version.

I’m happy with it: all is fine and almost frictionless.

[tw5] Advice for a iOS and iPadOS only user

2020-08-09 Thread IvanPsy
Greetings,
The more I read about TiddlyWiki the more I think is the right tool for my
second brain.
I think Stroll has all the features I need, such as bi-directional links,
reference links, autocompletion, etc...

I have just one question...

Considering I’m only on iPhone and iPad, and that I want to keep all local
(synced on iCloud) can I have all these feature while working on such
devices too?
I read Quine 2 is the only tool to manage a TiddlyWiki on iOS and iPadOS:
can I have those features while working on Quine 2?
How about inserting images and embedding videos from YouTube?

I have access on a PC (Windows), so starting on a PC to setup the base is
not a problem for me, nor accessing fro ma PC here and there for
maintenance purposes, but the daily work would be on an iPhone and an iPad.

Thank you!
