[tw] Re: Extracting arithmetical value of a field

2016-09-25 Thread ParisWiki
Tobias,
To you and for some members of the Tiddlywiki community, this quiz, as I
left ,for your perusal, the edit button active, you are right that it may
easy to cheat.

But in real life, without any button accessible, when you take a tasting
course outside of your home (a restaurant, a wine domain etc) and the only
tool you have is your smarphone, and the first guy who answers correctly
wins, we strongly believe that opening the code source, finding the
questions and the rules used in it is much too long and unreadable for non
geek people.

You are quite optimistic about the percentage of people in the world able
to recognize Tiddlywiki structure and to navigate easily in a file wihich
is more than 5 GO long and partly encrypted.

And by the way, please tell me how you call control -U on your smartphone,
because we don't.

Lastly, we don't deal with business secrets, personal data or state
confidential matters. It is a game, just a test to see if you enjoyed your
tasting and remember what you were supposed to listen to.

Sincerely,
JCG

[tw] Re: Extracting arithmetical value of a field

2016-09-24 Thread ParisWiki
Here we are : http://b-l.neocities.org/Quiz/

This live Quiz uses Tobias Beer's Rating pluging on the before last tiddler.

And also the more cryptic, but powerful Eval filter, in the last tiddler,
wihich is the interface between the quiz and the form to send the result by
mail.

See :
<$set name="foo"
filter="[[]eval[++++]]">
> />

This formula gives the total result of the different questions directly to
the mailing process.

At the bottom of this tiddler you can add your email if you want to see the
details of your notes to the different questions.

Sincerely,

JCG

[tw] Extracting arithmetical value of a field

2016-09-23 Thread ParisWiki
Hello,

I have some fields with numbers in them, ie =6 and
=9,

Using <$calc>, I can add the artihmetic content of those two fields :
=<$calc> + , which gives me
=15,

Now I want to extract the arithmetical value of , ie 15 and not
$calc> + , when I use in a form withing my
wiki (formspree in my case to send back email for quizzes results).

I tried to define a variable "result" to do that, but I am unable to inject
15 in it. Neither $(result)$, nor $<>$ nor some others gives 15
thru formspree but $calc> + .

What am I missing to obtain the final math value of my field?

Thanx for your help,

JCG

[tw] Plugin calc and email

2016-09-13 Thread ParisWiki
Hello,

This question is more for Tobias Beer, since I am using his Calc plugin and
that I saw once that he is also using Formspree form to send back result to
his mail address.

I made a quiz with x question. Each question has y options, to which I
attribute a note.
At the end of the quiz, with Calc I obtain the total without any problem.
But when I send the questions, the answers and the final score via
Formspree, I obtain questions and answers without problem, but instead of
18 (for instance), Formspree send back only the calc formula
<$calc> + + + + .

I tried to include the formula within a variable, bu without success.

How far am I to inject a number resulting from a Calc operation ?

Thank you,
Sincerely

Jean-Claude

[tw] Re: Like Mixing Evernote and Tiddliwiki: NoteSelf

2016-08-01 Thread ParisWiki
Thank you for your explanations.

It is certainly clearer, but I am still missing some points.

I understand that your modified tiddlywiki is embarking the "motor" for a
data base. Fine.

For me, any database contains records, each record with (pre?) defined
fields.

I saw that the database name is defined when loading the wiki. But how and
where do I declare the type of records and the various fields for this
database ?

What can constitute a record : A tiddler, a specific field of some
identifed tiddlers (thru tags or listing) or a new "entity" that needs to
be specified ?

And where is kept this database ? Within the TiddlyWiki as other data files
already possible, or in a specific file on the computer ?

So I am really missing some exemples, since I think that an external
database that could be acessed by one (or more?) tiddywiki would be a real
plus for this already fantastic piece of software !

Sincerely,

JCG

Hi Danielo,

I must say that I am totally lost !

First you speak about Notestorm. Is it the same as David Gifford's ?
Apparently not, but what are the differences? Do you mean in fact NoteSelf ?

Second you say "NoteSelf does not require any installation". Fine, but what
about Couch or Pouch DB? Downloading your file (TiddlyWiki), did not upload
(P)(C)ouchDB on my PC.

Then you say "Everything is stored on the company's servers!". Which
company? Any link to access those servers ?

Could you provide some working examples with such a working database ?

And maybe the steps needed for this mix to work "out of the box " ?

Thank you

2016-02-26 Thread ParisWiki
Hello,

Encrypting a large TW results in a larger file, taking too long to decrypt,
while contening important and non important, but verbose, tiddlers.

Is there a way to encrypt only the "important" tiddlers earmarked with some
tag by using the encrypt button on the sub-menu Tools on the right column ?

I was thinking of a system along the model of $:/config/SaverFilter to list
such tiddlers or to specifiy the rule for a certain tag, but I have no idea
if this is feasible ...

Thank you for your help,

[tw] How to prevent TW5 to send (false) signal to the browser ?

2016-01-31 Thread ParisWiki
Hello,

I intend to use a read-only TW5 for non techies users with a quizz the
answers of which are sent by mail to me (via the Formspree platform,
https://formspree.io/).

But TW5 is too zealous in that case and browsers (Chrome and Firefox at
least) alert the reader that closing the windows without saving the wiki
may inccur loss of data.

I am guessing that this alert is triggered by TW. If this is the case, how
can I prevent such a message in a read only wiki ?

Thank you,

2016-01-06 Thread ParisWiki
Hi,

In Tobias's example :

<$setvars foo="bar[7]" _bar="a b c d e f g h i j k">

the widget give "g" as the answer, which is correct.

But, if instead of letters we put numbers as data, the widget does not
function properly.
Is it forbidden to use numbers or is it a bug ?

Thanks,

JCG

By the way Tobias, I am giving you five ✮ for your pedagogy !

[tw] Re: Comparison between Tobias's plugins "split" and "setvars"

2015-12-18 Thread ParisWiki
Thank you Tobias,

Yes, version 0.5.3 works fine.

Of course it could become heavy when the majority of data bits are just a
letter, a number, an empty string or a word and just a few are sentences:

1 02 z en 0099 exact 1 0 [[]] 1
Alma Marceau Saint Michel

I was expecting more a "CSV" chain : 1;02;en;exact;1;0;;1;Alma
Marceau;Saint Michel

But I will survive ;-)

Thanks again,

Regards
JCG

[tw] Comparison between Tobias's plugins "split" and "setvars"

2015-12-18 Thread ParisWiki

@Tobias,

I had been testing your "split" plugin which does almost what I needed:
exploding a chain of characters extracted from a data tiddler. But I was
worried that the different extracts were de facto links, appearing as blue
italic sequences within my table.

This morning, going back to your excellent plugins lab, I realised that
your "setvars" plugin could extract tidbits from a long chain and NOT
transform them as links but keep them as plain vanilla words.

<$setvars foo="bar[2,3]" _bar="a b c d e">
<>

I prefer that. Except that the splitting character is a space. How can I
transform that in order to have some other spliting character, such as "|",
"§" or ";" ? The reason is that some of my extract are sentences (with
spaces).
I tried to insert "non secable spaces". It work fine, but up to a point,
since they prevent automatic line break if the sentence is longer than my
cell or the screen of a smartphone ...

Thank you for your time !

Regards,
JCG

[tw] Re: Examples from the site tiddlywiki.com do not work outside ?

2015-12-09 Thread ParisWiki
Thank you Tobias,

Yes, I understand that.

The funny thing (well not so funny in fact) is that I can affect variables
resulting from the fisrt or last split. But I cannot use those variables to
retrieve data from another data tiddler :

- Let say that the output of a "first split" is 1011 and that I put that
result, either with define or $set, into a variable V1. Thru
<> I have confirmation that V1== 1011.

- But there is no way to obtain a valid result with nor any
other formula (<>, , {V1}, etc ...). I even try transclusion, using
V1 as an index for the Data Tiddler Data2. With just a blank output ...

So I feel rather stupid ! Any idea to keep "active" this variable ?

Yes; almost.

In fact it gives simultaneoudly both a:1011 0601 0606 0100 A000
and Trocadéro.

Furthermore, <$list filter="[[a:011 0601 0606 0100 A000
Trocadéro]split:keep at[32]]" emptyMessage="none"/>

gives also simultaneously a:1011 0601 0606 0100 A000 and Trocadéro

So, how do I allocate each resulting chain to a separate variable?

[tw] Re: Examples from the site tiddlywiki.com do not work outside ?

2015-12-08 Thread ParisWiki
Yes Tobias I can give more details on my example,

>From external data I build a data tiddler #1 in the following form:

a:1011 0601 0606 0100 A000 Trocadéro

b:1042 1402 1405 0407 0111 A0E0 Châtelet

c:1043 1101 0200 0710 DE00 Saint-Michel

etc.

The separations of all the modules in the chain are spaces now, but, of
course, I could generate comma or whatever unicode separator. All "words"
have the save lenght except the last one which is the name of a metro stop
(but this one could also be a four letter code!).

Each "word" has an internal meaning such as route, time, junctions, etc.

To populate automaticaly a table readable by people, I need to extract the
correct "word" which will given as such, or more often used as a new index
into another data tiddler #2 giving a simple explanation to the user such
as "Express line with no intermediary stop between A & E" ...

For a given chain, I intend to use the words sequentially always in the
same order with no repetition nor omission. This is the reason why I was
suggesting to take the first word, allocate it in its own place, then prune
this word from the chain building so a second chain, and do the same again.
But it could be more efficient to allocate in the first run each word to a
specific variables, then to populate the table with the 7 variables (or
their translation).

Thank you for you attention and your time!

JCG

[tw] Re: Examples from the site tiddlywiki.com do not work outside ?

2015-12-08 Thread ParisWiki
Thank you both of you for your prompt answers.

Thank you Jed. So my guess was almost correct: the examples are built on a
site which contains much more than the one I downloaded. It would have been
better if such a tactic was explicitely explained on the examples tiddlers.

Thank you Tobias. I enjoyed your plugin which works perfectly !
... And now I am willing to ask for more (if I may) :

Is there a way to trim the first "word" and to repeat the process on the
new chain? Or to extract a chain between the 5th and 10th characters (for
instance) ?

[tw] Examples from the site tiddlywiki.com do not work outside ?

2015-12-08 Thread ParisWiki
Hello,

Trying to "split" or "explode" a chain of characters extracted from a data
tiddler, I went to the original site Tiddlywiki.com and was happy to find
the splitbefore Operator.

Unfortunately, when pasting it to my site, nothing happens. Jeremy gives
plenty of examples, which do not work when I copy them on my latest TW
version 5.1.9.

My guess is that there is a tag (hidden?), a plugin or a configuration
missing on my wiki.

@Jeremy: please remember that all your users are not very well familiar
with the subtilities of TW syntax, grammar or add-ons.

For example you provide a basic link for the field-operator
[field:author[JeremyRuston]] with a button 'Try it'.

Magically it works on your site, but not on my newly downloaded version.
What did I miss ?

So I opened you example, where I find the "formula" <<.operator-example 1
"[field:author[JeremyRuston]]" "plugins authored by JeremyRuston">>

Unfortunately, copying and pasting the "formula" got the same non-result.

I must say it is quite frustating, since Tiddlywiki is so powerful,
compared to raw php or javascript.

I guess that I am missing something, but your examples never give the
pre-requisite for them to work outside you site.

Can you give us, the slow learners, a hint ?

Thank you

[tw] Re: Using a variable to extract a sentence from a DataTiddler

2015-12-04 Thread ParisWiki
Hi Matabele,

I am still missing something.
The first solution, as it is, gives nothing useful to me.

The second proposal looks much more promising and gives if
the language chosen is French or for Chinese, after adding
the curly braces .

But it does not "resolve" the formula and certainly, as it is, does not
extract data from my data tiddler Data1.

Did you try it and obtain the correct extraction?
What do I miss again ?

[tw] Using a variable to extract a sentence from a DataTiddler

2015-12-04 Thread ParisWiki
Hello,

I wish to use a variable to extract a sentence from a data tiddler.

The user chooses his/her own language and from there he/she should obtain a
guide for a service in the right language.

Of course with the choice of language (choice = it easy
to keep the same language in all the tiddlers whose tag matches with the
field "choix" in the tiddler "Language".

It is also easy to implement situations where various sentences are
extracted from a data tiddler with the formula in the case
where the language is chinese (zh).

But in that case, the language is de facto hard coded.

I wish to simplify the number of patterns by using a variable for
extracting data from my data tiddler(s).

I have built an exemple at http://jcg.tddlyspot.com.

Either I don't correctly manipulate the syntax of variables in TiddlyWiki
(which is more than probable), or I am asking to much in willing extracts
from a data tiddler thru a variable !

In other words, I would appreciate some guidance ...

Thank you in advance

[tw] Re: Invitation to TiddlyPip: an Apple App Store experiment

2015-01-31 Thread ParisWiki
Jeremy,

Excellent ! That is a great step forward ! There is a definite need to
address the mobile tools, smarphones and tablets.

As you know, and upon your advice, I within the last three months worked
with Eric in order to run a mockup for Android by using the Phonegap/
Cordova service by Adobe (which provides also "translation" to IOS).
His first demo for me worked very well. So well that I have been thinking
of much more interactions with the functionnalities of the smarphones that
I had envisionned at first : reading GSM data, writing a log in the
background, taking photos, using mailing function, etc.
So far I have not given priority to this project, since I am still
demonstrating mockups to potential buyers (tour operators in my case).

But even if I understand that you may give priority to IOS and the
AppStore, I hope that your "intermediary platform" may be used with other
operating systems.

Regarding your payment scheme, I am not totally convinced since, if I
understand correctly, you will not address specific and individual needs of
potential clients like a consultant, but follow your own pace and your
priorities (or those of the patrons of Federatial). Which you did very
brilliantly with TiddlyWiki. But when people like me were speaking of
development they were interested in, very often you answered that it was a
good idea but not in your immediate calendar of development. But I may not
be correct on that !

Sincerely,

Jean-Claude

Well, links within tiddlywiki do not always move to the to the top of the
tiddler to be seen, if this one is longer than the screen.

It looks as if tiddlywiki has a memory of the last vision of this tiddler
and keeps its last position in cache.

I like the concept of substories, but since I am using the zooming view, it
does not answer to my needs.

Re: [tw] [TW5] Anchor within a tiddler

2014-06-14 Thread ParisWiki
Thank you Danielo and Jeremy,

In the time being, is there a way, for an internal link, to point to the
top of another tiddler?
When any ot them is longer than the screen length, when opening, it does
not show the top but anywhere towards the middle or the end. And the #
appendix does not work ...

Thanx !

JCG

[tw] [TW5] Anchor within a tiddler

2014-06-14 Thread ParisWiki
Hi,

Can you help me in creating anchors withing tiddlers in order to create
internal and external links to specific div of a tiddler ?

Thank you,

JCG

[tw] [TW5] ViewTemplate equivalent

2014-06-14 Thread ParisWiki
Hi,

In TW5 what is the equivalent of ViewTemplate in TWC, in order to not
publish the author and the modification date for each tiddler?

Thank you,
JCG

Re: [tw] [TW5] Export Story as HTML?

2014-02-27 Thread ParisWiki
Either locally or via my browser, this command did not succeed.
I got the message, even after saving and restarting Tiddlywiki
:

"Well, this is embarrassing. It is recommended that you restart TiddlyWiki
by refreshing your browser"
Plus "Uncaught TypeError: Cannot set property 'position' of undefined"
locally

Or "TypeError: domNode.style is undefined" thru Firefox

What am I doing wrong?

Thanx
JCG

[tw] Re: braintags

2013-04-27 Thread ParisWiki
Dave,
I like it. Very efficient!
A question about your use of "web" in your subtitle (a reusable non-linear
personal web notebook). Do you update it in the cloud or do you transfer it
from your computer once in a while?
And if is live in the cloud, by which method?
Thanks,
JCG
