Hi Mark,
I have written a delete macro here: deleteAllTagged 
 that makes it much 
quicker. It is better to wait until tomorrow before trying it - It needs a 
change that will appear with tw5.1

The problem is, having to respond to a dialog each and every time slows 
things down. Imagine trying to clear out a year's worth of journal entries 
that you have archived. At 3 to four seconds a piece it gets pretty boring.

To answer the follow up question, take a look at 
http://tw5magick.tiddlyspot.com/ and search for "Rename Tags" which I 
created using a trick shown by Alberto Molina.
