Hi Stanley,

$8 per board is a great price! Please raise my quantity to five boards,
thank you.

Did you contact Robert Fish about the group-buy?

Just to inform you, next week I'm away for boy-scouts camp. Reading mail
might be difficult till the 12th of July.

Best regards, Jeroen

Hi Stanley,

Just to confirm that I put my hand up for two boards and I'd also be
interested in two pre-programmed PIC chips if your being a rallying
point for them as well. I believe that you have my address in New
Zealand. It's a shame that Mouser insists on FEDEX or UPS for shipping
the parts kit as this doubles the price. Anyway, I will see about
sourcing these locally here.

Many thanks,

Re: [time-nuts] Pictic II mods

2010-07-03 Thread Peter Putnam

List Members,

How casually the time-nuts treat data timing... on one hand, errors of
parts in ten to the minus 12 are cause for great concern, and on the
other hand, throw in an extra stop bit and hope for the best.

Consider how a UART receives data from an asynchronous data transmitter.

The beginning of a received START bit starts a clock running at 16 times
the data rate. At 8 clock ticks, the middle of the start bit is
established. The middle of the first data bit is sampled 16 clock ticks
later, as are the succeeding bits. The center of an "on-speed" STOP bit
occurs on the 144th tick. If the incoming stream is fast, such that the
stop bit is ending at 144 ticks, or slow, such that the stop bit is just
beginning at 144 ticks, timing errors can be expected. The maximum
combined receiver and remote transmitter clock error can then be
established as 144 +/- 8 or +/- 5%. Errors are not cumulative; each
incoming byte restarts the process.

The penalty for this tolerance of clock errors is the overhead involved;
ten bits are transmitted for each 8-bit byte.

Re: [time-nuts] Pictic II mods

Is accuracy of your data timing an operating goal? If your communication
connection gets 100% reliable data transmission, at a speed that is
adequate to your needs, isn't that good enough?

I suppose you could use a C-Beam standard to drive your async timing clock,
and then use the ability to derive C-Beam accuracy from your async data
as some sort of goal but I think I will pass on that.

Re: [time-nuts] Pic programing for the PICTIC II

2010-07-03 Thread gonzo .

Hi Group,
in an effort to pool resources, I'm entering into a co-op arrangement with
another list member.

I'm happy to either order the PICs and supply them programmed (cost price plus
postage) or, if you already have a PIC and want to post it to me, I'll program
it and return it in a SSAE for no cost.

I'm in the UK, so postage rates and delivery times probably limit how far it it
practical for me to cover.

Steve, as a VK living in GW, I'm happy to post to ZL.

cheers,
ian

[time-nuts] Efratom MFS-286

I have an Efratom MFS-286 with an MGPS controller. I'm wondering if anyone
has documents on this particular model or might know the best way to get the
time & PPS from the unit to a NTP server. The serial port doesn't seem to
respond to anything. I have a PPS and TC output on BNC output that I could
wire up to a max serial port chip if I knew what would work; though I don't
see much from either on the scope.

Any pointers to assistance is appreciated.

model 275 crystal (piezoelectric) oscillator. I have one complete 275,
and parts to a second. The 275 was the first commercially available
crystal oscillator. I hope to restore both 275s to operation. The
paper will also cover the model 375 station monitor which followed the
275 and used the same oscillator. I have most of a 375, which I will
soon begin restoration. I am interested in any pieces of hardware,
including models 276 and 376 Quartz Plates, and any documentation (or
copies thereof) including the relevant portions of the General Radio E

Try the GenRad Group on Yahoo. Some GR design engineers are in that group.

Also, there is a General Radio Historical Society with an extensive manual
archive.
