Re: [time-nuts] VIGO time interval devices
What about the Racal Instruments (Racal Dana) 2351 8pS, 300MHz? Yes, it is VXI but 8pS one-shot seems interesting... Re: [time-nuts] Z3801 EFC error
Joe, Good guess. It's a 10811 with an additional oven wrapped around it for better thermal control. I'll check it in a couple days when I get home. Is this thermal fuse on the outside? Anyone have a schematic of this unit? Bob - Original Message - From: J. L. The oscillator is running and pretty close to 10MHz, I don't have any reference accurate enough to check it. The specs for the Racal 2351 indicate it might take 16.6 minutes to attain 8ps resolution, if I understand the specs correctly. Check under resolution mode vs max. sample rate, meas. time under input characteristics on the spec sheet. http://www.testequipmentconnection.com/tecspecs/Racal_Instruments_2351.PDF -Arthur ___ time-nuts mailing list -- time-nuts@febo.com To unsubscribe, go to https://www.febo.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/time-nuts and follow the instructions there.
Re: [time-nuts] Z3801 EFC error
Bob, The thermal fuse is inside the OCXO which is inside the outer oven. There was a recent (past week or so) thread on this list about a thermal fuse failure including pictures of the inside where the fuse is located. This, however, was for the 'non' wrapped version of the 10811. The problem will be getting past the outer oven. I've never tried that though I have replaced the thermal fuse on the 'non' wrapped 10811. That was really straight forward. I don't recall seeing a manual specifically for the 'wrapped' version of the 10811 but the manual for the 'non' wrapped version is available on the internet. I think one is on Didier's site. The trouble shooting guide is very helpful in finding out if the thermal fuse is the problem. Just measure the heater circuit current for the inner oven. If zero, the thermal fuse is the place to start. The outer oven, though, I think is separate. If your Z3801A is used indoors, I suspect the outer oven is probably not needed. Good luck. Re: [time-nuts] VIGO time interval devices
There seems to be a deluge of these OEM counters, mimicking the 53132 operation, with a bit better specs and built-in 3rd channel. Berkeley Nucleonics has them, Keithley has them, they all must come from the same Chinese OEM. Maybe the quality is good, maybe the specs are honest and apples to apples. Or maybe not. The only experience I had was with another Agilent knock-off, the BNC-branded arb generator model 645, which was cheaper than the Agilent, with a higher frequency capability (50MHz compared to 20MHz) and SCPI compatible. Didn't check side by side on a spectrum analyzer, but for the application I had it worked fine. As a plus, it had also digital output on the back (16 bits) so it doubled as a cheap word generator. It would be nice for a real time nutter to get one (BNC often offered 1 month loaners) and measure the actual performance. One thing we will only know 10 years from now is if they last as long as the HPs - or if the manufacturer will still exist. BNC has a comparison to Agilent and Pendulum on their site.
