Indeed it is possible, at least the winter. I have received and locked to
the signal from Europe. But its not often. When I was able to lock it was
later at night.
Also not often enough to really matter. :-(

Perhaps its just noise. But LORAN
went off the air. In the quite I hear
some low level junk.
Only I am beginning to think its not low level junk.

It sounds like a GRI thats been spread and perhaps this is
what a GRI
sounds like when you do lots of phase reversals.
My O my time to fire up the old austron 2000 gate a scope

junk is synchronized.
Have to believe I can do the same thing on the SRS FS700.

The Tracor may be the better solution but for a quick check the built in
phase comparator of the FS700 is more than adequate. My comparisons

show frequency differences<10E-12 over observation times of some hours or

Hi Dave

I've used quite a few of these and have never yet experienced an actual
component failure, obviously not saying it can't happen just that once
sorted
yours should remain pretty reliable.

As John already suggested I'd also look for possible fautly tantalums or
other capacitors across the supply but would also suggest removing all
the
modules from the motherboard at the same time before proceeding any
furter
and checking if the symptoms still persist.
I know what you've done has probably eliminated the modules but it
would
be a shame to tear into the backplane if you just happened to have more
  than
one faulty module.

I did once receive a previously working PTS160 by post that refused to
play
and eventually located a very small solder blob, presumably from
inside
the associated module, that had dropped into an edge connector and
wedged
between a couple of pins, that was fun:-)

If you haven't already found it there's a manual for the PT160 on
Didier's
site.

Hi:
Just a thought. I have not run my pts 160 for some time but I recall
that it would loose output if run unterminated for any length of time
mine is a 50 ohm imp output I think there were some 75 ohm also. If
left off for a short time and then terminated it 's output would return
