[time-nuts] Atomic Clocks are 3 seconds fast

2012-10-09 Thread JULIAN TOPOLSKI

I have two La Crosse wall-mounted atomic clocks, one is set for local time
(Mountain) and the other to UTC. They both are synchronized to WWVB and display
the same time to the second (by eyeball). However when I tuned in WWV on 5 MHz
(it's only about a 100 miles away so the higher frequencies skip over me), the
announcements indicate the clocks are both 3 seconds fast. How can that be? Is
it the effect of the new phase modulation? I thought it would not affect a
clock that sets to WWVB.

Puzzled

[time-nuts] Most precise clock ever created - here we go again

2010-10-29 Thread JULIAN TOPOLSKI

Researchers at Fermilab are building a “holometer” so they can disprove
everything you thought you knew about the universe. More specifically, they are
trying to either prove or disprove the somewhat mind-bending notion that the
third dimension doesn’t exist at all, and that the 3-D universe we think we
live in is nothing more than a hologram. To do so, they are building the most
precise clock ever created.

[time-nuts] Google to Provide Raw GPS Measurements

2016-07-15 Thread JULIAN TOPOLSKI
New Android phones will provide raw GPS measurements. This means you can get
pseudoranges, dopplers, and carrier phase from a phone or tablet. See the
article from GPS World magazine at
http://gpsworld.com/google-to-provide-raw-gnss-measurements/.

[time-nuts] Time Protocol Simulation Module

2014-01-03 Thread JULIAN TOPOLSKI
Googling wwvb simulator I found this interesting module:

The “Chronvertor” Time Protocol Simulation Module(Released February 2013)

The Chronvertor is a module containing a very accurate battery backed Maxim
DS3231 RTC (Real Time Clock) chip working with a Microchip PIC Microcontroller
to output the time and date as either a GPS NMEA datagram or a WWVB, DCF77, MSF
or JJY radio time protocol. It automatically takes care of DST (Daylight Saving
Time) changes around the world and provides for time-zone offsets to generate
any local time. The RTC time and date can be initially set-up by either
connecting it to a GPS module for a few seconds or by serial commands sent by a
PC terminal program. I ordered one to play around with. (Not affiliated with
the seller). Here is the web page:

[time-nuts] Lady Heather 5.00 doesn't keep time

2017-08-14 Thread JULIAN TOPOLSKI
I installed version 5.00 of Lady Heather as the 3.1 version was affected by the
GPS Rollover. It stopped displaying the digital clock which I used as a station
clock for my ham radio logging. So I installed and ran version 5.00, specifying
the digital clock. It worked for a while with correct time as I compared it to
the digital clock display in the WSJTX software GUI. I haven't determined how
long it takes but it is in the range of 5 or 10 minutes and then I notice a
difference between the clocks. Checking with WWV on the radio, the WSJTX clock
is right on but LH is off by some 20 seconds. Is there a bug in LH5.00? Is
there an option I didn't set? The 3.1 version worked without any special
options other than full screen and digital clock selected.
