Re: [time-nuts] Control and monitor program for Spectracom 8195B

2019-07-29 Thread Taka Kamiya via time-nuts
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
Now I can unify GPSDO monitoring into just one program.  I'm also using LH with
TICC.  The fact that LH recognizes trailing channel ID string resolves an issue
I was having.

I still don't know why I could not received the executable.  My only guess is,
somewhere along the chain, automated system recognizes the EXE format and
alters it.  Would you be posting the new version in the LH thread on EEVforum?
It's getting late in Florida, so I'll try to see where it is tomorrow.
THANK YOU!

When you send a command to the device it echoes back the characters.  This is
very useful for telling what command the device is responding to.  But, about
half the time, the echoed characters were garbled.  Also several response
messages came back corrupted.  Oh, and occasionally the unit would lock up and
require a power cycle to recover.  The problem turned out to be that you can't
send command strings to the device at computer friendly speeds.  You need
several milliseconds of delay between each character you send!

Anyway, Heather now work with the Spectracom "ageless" oscillators.  BTW, for
an "ageless" oscillator, these units have a procedure for correcting oscillator
aging  ;-)

Both have HP 10811 osc. that works.

5370A Goes through start up but stops.  Missing one input/ pot +knob also has
HP 10811 osc that works $100.
5370A Some PS fault(s)  earlier HP osc that works. $100.

Jim
Not aware of any work. I did a hack as I recall on one unit.
That was a ecl inverter biased linearly etc. Serious hack. (Some would say
ugly)
But if its dead, its dead nothing to loose. That chip is actually pretty
complicated.
As I recall the threshold setting is handled in the chip.
Can more modern chips work and give threshold I totally believe that.
Regards
Paul.

Hi

Pretty much the same “no” as on the input circuits on the 5335 …. ( best to
avoid +5V on a 5335 input with the attenuator set to 1X ….)

Re: [time-nuts] FSA3011 Frequency Stability Analyzer

2019-07-29 Thread Bob kb8tq
Hi

There are a lot of “stock” programs out there that will handle this sort of
“wrap” process. The obvious gotcah is porting them to accept the output
of the device.

Wha's the problem? If it's just running out of high order bits in a counting
register, I can fix that with a post-collecting pass.

You could hack the collecting software to do it. In one sense, it's nice to
keep the collecting software clean and simple and log exactly what goes in to
it, but if you collect enough data, then the extra pass gets annoying enough
that I would take the time to fix the collection step and double check things
so I'm pretty sure it won't turn into a source of problems.
