[time-nuts] Re: Oncore UT+ Bad Almanac

2021-11-13 Thread paul swed
Jerry I think thats the fastest way. Leave on for 24 hours to see if it
grabs the almanacs if not oh boy somethings up.
One other trick if it will allow this, is to see what satellites are up and
select a strong one. Some of the older systems allowed you to do that.

[time-nuts] Re: HP 3561a Service Manual

2021-11-13 Thread Richard (Rick) Karlquist

I was working for HP in 1983 at the division that produced the 3561.
In those days everyone had "terminals" that were used to remotely
log in to shared computers. These terminals had a bunch of PC
cards with gold plated edge-card connectors. It was SOP that
one's terminal would stop working periodically, and the fix was
to simply unplug all the boards and then reseat them. This
almost always worked.

If you got nearly 40 years out of your connectors without a
problem, you did well. I too have a vintage 3561 that still
works fine.

From the code 0 7 26, if there is just one faulty RAM IC you will see
down the bottom of the screen a RAM hex number from 0 to F. On page 6-59
in Volume 1 you will find a list of the IC numbers that correspond to
those RAM numbers.   However since you seem to have an additional Error
Code 31 and the full list of RAM numbers displayed it is likely to be
more than a simple one IC failure. 31 indicates RAM refresh test error,
if that means anything to you, I'm a bit lost frankly.  It might be
worth checking the board connections...

Good luck!

[time-nuts] Oncore UT+ Bad Almanac

2021-11-13 Thread k1jos
I have a two Oncore UT+ v2.2 (NOS) and prepping for a project I checked them
out using SynTAc software. They both show "Bad Almanac" even after I
updated my Long/Lat/Alt. These Oncore's do not have battery backup. I
read the manual and it seems the software will show zero satellites visible
or tracked until the almanac updates. I assume they must be working as the
UTC "Time from GPS" appeared within a minute or two and the time is correct
(though date is Jan 01, 1998). I know the antenna is good as I'm running
it from a HP58516A amp/splitter that my TBolt is powering.

After an hour I opted to start a survey. Is there a faster way to enter
the correct almanac manually? I kno

Jerry

2021-11-13 Thread Jim Harman
If you are getting RAM refresh errors with a device of that vintage, check
the power supplies that feed the RAM chips. In those days, there was a
second supply voltage (-12V?) that was used only for refreshing the data.
