If you have no requirement to isolate the LPRO chassis electrically from the heat sink, no problem with removing the thermal pad. No problem with using regular thermal grease either. That's what I did with my LPRO, and it seems to be happy- I've been using it for a couple of years now with no apparent difficulty. Hi Unless the pad is damaged, it makes a fine “gap filler” to attach the device to a heatsink. You don’t get thermal compound all over everything when using the pads …. Given the (large) surface area and the amount of heat involved, the relative performance of silver loaded (gray) thermal compound and the pads is not that big a deal.
